Briswife15 replied to New&Improved's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I spent 2 nights in the hospital and went home late in the afternoon on the 3rd day. I had to be able to sip a certain amount of liquid to get released. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Oh, my goodness! For every horror story there are hundreds of success stories! I had gastric bypass on March 27th 2019, and it was the best decision I've ever made. Sure, there are ups and downs, but I've lost more weight than I could have on my own, my diabetes is GONE, I'm off all high blood pressure medication, I can go up and down stairs again, etc!! Please take a deep breath and be positive. You got this! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Need encouragement during stall
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yay! Stall is broken! Lost 1.6 pounds in last 2 days! Went back down to no more than 800 calories and that seems to have done the trick. Thank you all for your kind support. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Need encouragement during stall
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks, all! I do track everything I put in my mouth. Nutritionist recently told me to up my calories from 800 to at least 1000, and that certainly didn't help me to get out of this stall.!! Work out with a trainer 2 times a week, walk every day. I guess I need to drop my calories back down to no more than 800 and increase my exercise and see if that helps. Just frustrated! Medications: Crushing versus Swallowing Pills Whole
Briswife15 replied to Prestonandme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I crush my psych meds, sleep meds per my psychiatrist. I take a PPI twice a day, and swallow them whole with no problem. I also take Crestor and swallow that whole. I crush the psych meds to aid in absorption. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm deficient in Vitamin A abd have to take extra over what is in my multivitamin, and I had bypass. Could just be my quirky body! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Mental Health meds & Gastric Bypass
Briswife15 replied to Jonah's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I won't sugarcoat it, withdrawal symptoms were horrible! I weaned off the venlafaxine very slowly while adding Prozac at the same time, but even so, I felt crappy. Then I got down to 37.5 mg venlafaxine once a day. Did that for 10 days, then went cold turkey. Felt tired, dizzy, brain zappy, etc. I made it, though! Of course, all was done under psychiatrist supervision! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Mental Health meds & Gastric Bypass
Briswife15 replied to Jonah's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've posted in the past about my experience with venlafaxine post RNY. I stopped absorbing it, and had to taper off while adding liquid prozac. Malabsorption of psych meds is one reason why my psychiatrist did not want me to do the surgery! I'm doing ok now, about 2 weeks post venlafaxine. Good luck on your journey. Are you meeting with your GP? Mine actually mentioned the surgery to me before I had considered it. Do you need approval from your GP, or just from a bariatric surgeon? I would just be brutally honest, tell her that you've tried diets in the past that have failed, that you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, and are looking to better your future! I'm pretty sure she'll be supportive. If by some chance she does say, no, and you need her opinion, I'd find myself a GP who was on board with the whole thing. Good luck, and please keep us posted! Changed from Sleeve to RNY Bypass
Briswife15 replied to Panda333's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I, too, chose Bypass because of GERD, and I'm glad I did. Taking the vitamins is no big deal. I take a chewable multi vitamin in the am and pm, 3 chewable calcium citrate chews a day, and a vitamin B-12 under my tongue. Easy peasy. Not something to prevent me from having bypass!! Yes, the surgery may be "more complicated" but it is called the "gold standard" for a reason, and has been done for a long time. Good luck! -
Hello! How exciting to be in the home stretch! I had gastric bypass, but only had an IV and they crushed up a cocktail of meds for me to swallow with water before hand. It was neurontin for nerve pain, a PPI, anti nausea meds, etc. I did not have any injections before surgery, but did have injections of blood thinners after surgery. NO big deal. I did not have a drain. The post-surgery period was fine. I was given anti-nausea meds and pain meds with regularity, and never felt nauseous. The pain was very manageable with the meds. Get up out of bed and walk, walk, walk, and take little sips of the beverage they give you to drink, and you'll be fine. Good luck, you've got this!

Hi, and welcome! I'm not from Oregon, but have had gastric bypass in March 2019, and had hypertension, diabetes, type 2, arthritis in knees, generally felt lousy everywhere. Now, I'm off my diabetes meds and it's gone! Off my high blood pressure meds! Knees don't hurt, and generally feel great! Best decision I ever made health wise. I had a BMI of over 40, and now I'm in the "overweight" category, on my way to normal. Read everything you can, and ask questions. Good luck with your journey!

Nutritionist thinks I should be eation 1000 cals a day!
Briswife15 posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
Looking for input and opinions from those who've been there. I'm exactly 5 months post op. I had severe complications from March til July which prevented me from eating much. So, I'm progressing slowly on my diet. I saw the Nut for the first time yesterday. I average between about 600 and 850 calories a day. Mostly 600-700. Which feels adequate and satisfying. Nut says in one breath not to track my calories, and in another breath that my goal for now should be 1000 calories a day!! I really don't think I could eat that much with my restriction, and I'm sure I'd gain weight. Now, I know she's the professional, but I live in this body!! What do you all think? Up my calories, or stay the course with what I'm doing? Thanks! By the way, for those wondering, I'm 57. 5'3", and have lost just over 60 pounds with 50 more to go. Thanks for the helpful replies, ya'll! I don't see Nutritionist for another 3 months, but do see surgeon's PA in a month, so will discuss with her. She's always been on board with how I'm eating. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

So, I saw my very best friend last Saturday after not having seen her in a few weeks. While we were talking about my weight loss, and I mentioned I was in a bit of a stall, she very firmly told me not to lose too much weight, and that I shouldn't get smaller than a clothes size medium! Background on her. She used to be obese and lost 60 pounds a couple of years ago. She is still an "apple " shape with a bigger tummy, but basically looks good. I'm still obese at 5'3" and 174 pounds, but will soon be just overweight. I have not been overweight my whole life, but she has only seen me obese. Most of my adult life I weighed 125 or lower, which looked good, and was healthy. I did wear small sizes. Do you think she is somehow feeling unsettled by my weight loss? Does she want to keep me the heavier one? I love her dearly but am wondering what is going on! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
