Hey, from what I just Googled, cigarette smoking is also known to make ulcers more prevalent in "regular" people as well. I don't know WHY, but it seems to be bad for all populations. Glad you're trying to quit. I know it's hard! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Update on my stricture and second endoscopy
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks, gabybab! I'm trying to keep my chin up!! I just read that 1/3 of patients with marginal ulcers and stricture need to have a revision to the RNY to re-do the connection. I really don't want another surgery!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Update on my stricture and second endoscopy
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, Froufrou, my weight loss has been pretty slow compared to others. Im 6 weeks out and have lost 22 pounds. I think my body is clinging on to every pound. I consume about 450 calories a day in the form of protein shakes. Your surgeon can do an upper GI series to determine if you have a stricture. I hope you don't!! Thanks, Steven! I needed that encouragement today as second endoscopy was a failure. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Update on my stricture and second endoscopy
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks, I made a typo! It was supposed to say, "if" repeat endoscopies dont work... then we'll have to re-operate. Sorry for any confusion [emoji4] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm having my second one today. I only got a few days out of the first one before it closed up again. I'm getting discouraged since I've been on liquids since my bypass 6 weeks ago. I feel like I'll never get to regular foods!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Yup! Getting ready for my second endoscopy with dilation tomorrow. Stricture started closing up 3 days after first dilation. I'm sure there will be more in my future, too. Never got out if the liquid stage and I'm 6 weeks out. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

At one month I should have been transitioning from purees to soft foods, but alas, I have a severe stricture and am still on liquids at 6 weeks! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Pre Surgery Vitamins/ Pre Workout Energy
Briswife15 replied to Ilianamarie30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They're kinda pricey, but I used the Bariatric Advantage multi vitamins for pre surgery. I think they were $18 a month or something like that. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Surgery release question
Briswife15 replied to sunsetchaser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not supposed to drive within 24 hours of having anesthesia. Do you know how long you'll be in the hospital? I was there 3 days and 2 nights. You should definitely check with your surgeon's office. Good luck to you! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Yes, I waffled before my RNY gastric bypass 6 weeks ago. I had a 6 month period of nutrition visits, so I had time to think and learn all I could. When it came to surgery day I was ready, confident in my surgeon, and happy to be improving my health. I have eliminated my type 2 diabetes, and knee pain is better. It is scary, but for me, staying obese with diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure was even scarier!! Read all you can, and good luck with your decision! Bipolar help! People gone through surgery?
Briswife15 replied to _kimGA_'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I ended up switching my Effexor extended release capsules for the tablets. And I take them 3 times a day. Kinda a pain, but it works. Can't take extended release after surgery. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Sorry to hear, but glad you got it taken care of. My stricture closed up again after just a few days and I have a repeat endoscopy Friday. I think mine will take quite a few tries. They do mine under general anesthesia. I've been on liquids for 6 weeks... Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Is this a horrible idea?
Briswife15 replied to Palta's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Palta. Use the time during your 6 months to research your options and get familiar with gastric bypass. That's what I did. I had a whole range of emotions during my 6 months. I started out really wanting bypass, then waffling and thinking I'd drop out. Then back to being sure I wanted to do it. I am 6 weeks post surgery and glad I did it, even though I have had a setback. It is not a horrible idea! There are pros and cons to this surgery, and you need to be prepared for a lifetime of taking a multivitamin, B12, calcium, as well as supplementing with protein shakes for a little while until you're on solid food. I love my surgeon and his whole team. They are at a bariatric center of excellence and I had a lot of confidence in him. Take your time. Learn as much as you can, and weigh your options. The answer will come to you. Wishing you .the best Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Yes. Although safe for appropriate patients, it should be used for as short as possible, and a low dose. Especially bad for the elderly and immunocompromised patients. I've been on one for as long as you have with no side effects. But, that's not to say I should be. I currently have an ulcer and stricture and am 5 weeks post RNY, so I can't stop now!!! Help! chest pain after eating (4 ypo)
Briswife15 replied to KanoodleBug's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
A stricture is a narrowing of the opening between the bottom of your pouch and your small intestine. Mine was as small as a pin hole and liquids/purees were not getting through. It causes all kinds of symptoms and needs to be gradually stretched. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Im not the OP, just wondering about well water. I live in CT and have a softener and iron filter. Maybe that makes a difference. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
