How long is the RNY surgery, typically?

Thanks! My surgery was 3 months ago (old post), and it took about 3+ hours. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Having my RNY surgery Wednesday and want to give hubby an idea of how long he'll be in the waiting room. Forgot to ask surgeon. I'm having a robotic-assisted, laparoscopic RNY. Thanks! I was thinking 2.5 to 3 housr, but don't know. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    What was your moment?

My "moment " came in May of 2018 with a series of events. I was 246 pounds, and didn't want to hit 250. I was wearing a 3x in clothes and they were getting tight, and I didn't know where I'd find clothes. I was out of breath and sweatty just walking to my car from work, and I had diabetes type 2. High blood pressure. I was literally a hot mess, and I said to myself "that's it!" I went to the informational session with my husband at my bariatric surgeon's office on May of 2018, completed Anthem's 6 months of requirements, and had my gastric bypass on March 27, 2019. Although I've had complications Im thrilled that I had the surgery! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Am I eating enough calories

Hi, and Congratulations on your recent surgery! I had gastric bypass 3 months ago, and I think you are eating more than enough calories. I rarely get up to 800 myself. For protien it seems adequate, but you should follow your surgeon's recommendations. When I workout my doctor has suggested a higher protein amount, but you're probably not working out yet. Focus on hydration and protein and don't worry as much about calories. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Struggling with my decision

Yes, you posted this in your "regret" post. Things will get better, I promise. It is not an "easy" way out, and there are struggles which are real. What exactly are you upset about? The first few weeks can be emotional. Think of the reasons why you don't want to be morbidly obese anymore. Think of all the wonderful things you will gain from losing weight. You can get through this! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Adhesions and RnY?

My doctor was concerned about adhesions too because of prior abdominal surgery, but my RNY was successful. Good luck to you! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Does Allulose cause dumping?

Just a follow up for those of you interested. I have experimented with this, and as far as I can tell, Allulose does NOT cause dumping in bypass patients. Ymmv Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I'm like Frustr8. At 3 weeks post bypass I was diagnosed with a severe stricture and marginal ulcers. 3 months post op now, and just had my 5th endoscopy with dilation on Friday. I couldn't eat or drink much without feeling nauseous and having difficulty swallowing. Go back to your surgeon please! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    B12 levels over 2000

Definitely push for a full panel of labs to be run! Your health depends on knowing your deficiencies and treating them if need be. You're not crazy as a loon!! Mine they did early because of our shared condition. Usually they do it at 6 months. Fingers crossed you get someone to pay attention at your next appointment on the 17th. 14. I'm 57 and had bypass 3 months ago. I never feel "hungry" like I did before surgery. One of the many reasons I chose bypass is because of the chance of dumping! I had an incredible sweet tooth before surgery and wanted something to deter me. My tastes have changed, and my mental status is such that for now I really only want protein and food that's good for me. I'm happy I had bypass. Good luck with whichever you choose. B12 levels over 2000

Yes! I just had lab work done and B12 was over 2000. I do take a supplement of 1000 micrograms a day. Doctor said to keep up with the supplements even though the result was high because there is no danger in too high B12, but low B12 can have serious consequences. Over the counter vitamins?

I take specific bariatric vitamins. Bariatric Advantage brand multivitamin, vitamin B12, and calcium chews. They might be more expensive, but I feel it's worth it, and my surgeon recommends this brand. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    How much can you eat???

I don't want to alarm any newbies, so that's why I didnt specify, but at 3 weeks out I developed a severe stricture between my intestines and pouch which prevented me from transitioning to soft foods. I also have marginal ulcers. I am having my 5th endoscopy with dilation on Friday. I'm hoping two more rounds will do the trick. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

  24. Yeah. I had never heard of ulcers and strictures either, until I developed them just 3 weeks post RNY. I know they are rare, though. You and I are rare birds!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
