    African American RNY Sisters

I had gastric bypass 3/27/19, so right around when you had yours. Not in So. Cal. Though. And not African American. I do, However, understand the surgery!! You're doing great! I know it's a struggle sometimes. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Awesome job! I am 4 months post gastric bypass and have lost a total of 65 pounds, with 50 of it since surgery. If I can continue to lose at this rate I should be at goal when I hit 9 months! Here's hoping I can do as well as you! You're an inspiration![emoji847] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

It does sound like too many carbs in the evening, you're right! Your breakfast sounds great. Is there any way with your job that you could have a morning and afternoon snack of like 100 calories? That would keep you from going too long without food. And from eating too many carbs at dinner. Maybe you and your husband could brainstorm some less carby dinner ideas that are still easy to make. Don't give up! There are websites for bariatric meal ideas. Try Googling some. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

You're doing a great job getting your steps in daily. And I understand feeling too tired to do anything after work!! I used to feel that way. 3 months after my RNY I joined a gym and hired a personal trainer! Now I find I have lots more energy. Can you carve out any time on the weekends to exercise? What's your eating like?? Sarah aka Briswife15 Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi, Christina, and welcome! Sorry you're struggling. You could find an app like Baritastic or my fitness pal to log and track your food. They have nutritional information. I use Baritastic. It is geared towards bariatric patients and reminds me to drink and take my vitamins. Many people like MFP. I'll be your buddy if you want! Hang in there. 9. I'm sorry you weren't better prepared by your surgeon as to which foods were going to be a no-no after surgery. I guess I was fortunate in that from the first informational session, and repeatedly during my 6 months of nutrition visits they made it really clear that anything more than 5 gms of sugar, deep fried foods, bread and white starches, corn, chips, and crunchy salty snacks were going to be off the menu permanently. I know all doctors are different and I'm NOT dissing yours, just thankful I was prepared. Hopefully there are still lots of yummy things you can eat. Best to you. New Convert of the Sleeved

What, you can't visit your Grandma? You can't participate in family holidays?? Why can't you enjoy your Grandma's company and just not have it revolve around food? There Will be things you like that you can eat. I promise. You will be able to participate in family holidays and celebrations. Just focus on the meaning for the get togethers. You need to change your relationship with food. You are right that food should go from being an emotional crutch. And a coping mechanism, but think of food as nutrition and something you lovingly give yourself to aid in your health and well being. I still go out to eat. I just pick off my husband's plate, or get an appetizer. I still visit with relatives. My life no longer revolves around food. It is all about cultivating the proper mindset, and YOU CAN DO THIS! 13. No food aversions. It's just a healing stricture and marginal ulcers. They can take a while to heal. Until then I'm on soft food. Are you getting dilated? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. When I was first diagnosed, it was as small as a pin hole!! I've had 5 endoscopies with dilation. And they manage to stretch it a little more each time. I'm hoping I'm done, but still struggling with food. Best to you! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    protein

Yes. Grams. My doctor says we can't absorb that much protein at once. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    protein

I don't think a person can absorb 64 grams of protein all at once. My doctor recommends eating protein rich meals or snacks 4 to 5 times a day. My protein needs are higher because (1) I am not absorbing protein well and (2) I exercise a lot. I aim for 90 plus grams a day. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve or RNY

I had the RNY 3 months ago and am very pleased. I never feel hunger the way I did before surgery, although I do feel when it is time for nutrition. Just no hunger pangs. My diabetes went away. I have reduced my blood pressure meds, I'm moving better, and feel great. My GERD has also gone away. I wanted RNY and not sleeve. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    REGRET

Well, I have a different perspective. I am 3 months post RNY, and despite having serious complications which prevent me from eating food for the most part, I have absolutely NO REGRETS! I feel amazing, have gone down 3 sizes in clothes, move better, sleep better, and my diabetes is in remission!! I was mentally prepared for the surgery, but was unaware I could develop a severe stricture and marginal ulcers. I'm going with the flow, and Imagine I will eventually heal. Im sorry for those with regret, and I hope with time you feel better about your decision. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. So. I have some Quest Hero protein bars left over from pre-surgery and they're made with a type of non digestible sugar called Allulose. I don't want to try it and dump. Has anyone used Allulose with success? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
