Feeling I may not be approved
Angel_P replied to ready_2_live's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just keep faith and don't give up! Some of my paperwork said that I needed to do a 6 month Dr. supervised diet, my old PCP told me that I had to do a 1 year supervised diet (he didn't believe in WLS) only to find out from my surgeon's office that my insurance does not require the supervised diet. Even if you do have to do the 6 month diet, there are quite a few pre-surgery requirements to be done and with all of that the time will go quickly! And during that process you will still be on the road to getting healthier. I know how you feel though, I want this surgery so bad, and if I had my way, I would of had it last month!:biggrin2: -
Thanks! I hadn't heard of it....

July Date w/Dr. Geiss in NY...Anyone else?
Angel_P replied to slim2be's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Hopefully I will have a July date with Dr. Geiss too. The only prerequisite I have left is my upper GI, which I have had to cancel twice now due to referral issues. Luckily I was told by his office that my insurance tends to approve within a day or two for the surgery, so I have my fingers crossed! Good Luck and congratulations on your date! -
Am I a good candidate if...
Angel_P replied to suzie-ny's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Suzie...I think that being a yoyo dieter is kinda common with those who have had WLS, one of the main reasons for many people having it is not that they cannot lose weight, but cant keep it off. As far as the psych eval, I just had mine yesterday. I was surprised at some of the stuff that came up. We talked about past dieting and dieting attempts, how long I kept the weight off, how much lost and regained. Also we talked about what would be different with the surgery, what I expect the band to do for me etc. Some personal past stuff that I was not expecting did come up, but in retrospect I guess that those emotional things would tie into my compulsive overeating and stuffing my feelings with food. Good luck on everything! -

Thanks for the answers, and I do agree that it is great that the Dr. suggested more counseling....I guess it was just a hard day and I wasnt expecting those things to come up! -
How the surgery is done?
Angel_P replied to YoungNy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I understand you are laying down, but your legs are hanging down. You are not standing up. I don't think that you wear anything besides a hospital gown....some people need a catheter. -
I would think it might be a dehydration issue. Alcohol seriously dehydrates you and probably since you haven't had a drink in a while, you notice the effects more. Drink lots of water! I have heard that pedialyte is good for re hydrating after drinking too much, but Im not sure about the sugar content in it.......

I know exactly how you feel. My finance and sister are supportive, as is my best friend who is also having the surgery done. But there are just as many people who aren't. Recently someone who I know but don't care for too much overheard my best friend and I catching up on where we are on our requirements and asked me what we were talking about, and I said about the lap band.........then he proceeded to tell me how even though he has never had a problem with weight, when he watched his portions and cut out carbs he lost a few extra pounds......it took all I had in me to not scream! Gee.....I never thought of that one! But I try to remember that this is for me, and if they aren't for me than they are against me and I don't need them. PHEW! I also wonder if I will be able to work it and what if I fail......but then I just try to constantly think that I will succeed. I don't want to be afraid of success! Good luck, and remember to keep yourself first!

I'm not sure about hunger with the antidepressant but it makes sense, many antidepressants have a side effect of decreased appetite. The antidepressant I take makes me feel absolutely horrible if I miss it. I missed it the past two days and it feels like one of the most horrible hangovers without the nausea. Considering I NEVER drink, I never have hangovers and hate missing my pill!

Hi everyone, Well last night I had my sleep study, LOL. So those who have already done it, know, but even though my friend had it done last week and I was somewhat prepared, I still was a little shocked. They manage to strap an electrode and wire to every part of your face, chest, and legs along with a thingie on your finger that I don't even remember what is for. Then the thing that looks like an oxygen tube but measures if you are breathing out of your nose or mouth. So at this point I am pretty sure that I could pick up FM radio from Brazil. Then the gentleman reminds me that I am being video taped and not to do anything that I would be embarrassed about. I laughed but he told me no, you would be surprised how many either forget or don't care.................and proceeds to tell me to RELAX and GET COMFORTABLE. Nice try. LOL Well anyway, I am glad that I purposely only go 6 hours of sleep the night before, I feel like considering all, I slept better than if I had slept well the night before. So at this point, I have completed my EKG, Echo, blood work, PFT, Chest X-Ray, and Sleep study. Next week I have my upper GI, Nutritionist Consult, Psych Consult, and Stress Test.:cool2: Then I can start to SET A DATE!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!! I am so excited, and as a side note.....I think the thing I look forward to the most about losing weight, is not always being zapped of energy, my sister wanted me to go for a walk in the park yesterday and I realized that I just have no energy.....ever. Sorry its so long......and thanks for all the posts and encouragement, this site is awesome!

First Consultation & Overwhelmed
Angel_P replied to SamieTeacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Samie, I know someone who had to have the 6 mos and all, Im not sure about the 5 years documented, but it all comes together eventually. As far as being shy and not telling Dr's why you need your records, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most people I tell when I make my appts are very supportive. If they aren't then maybe I wouldn't go to their offices anymore! I would ask the surgeon if there is a local office where you can see the cardiologist and pulmonologist in one place. I was able to do that at it has been great because I can schedule both Dr's in one day and get it done with, plus all the records are in one place and easier to get back to the surgeon. Good luck and I think its normal to feel overwhelmed, but before you know it you will be underway! -
I am working on being approved for the lap band with Dr. Geiss and I was just wondering if anyone knew the cost of fills after. I believe that one of the staff told me that 3 fills were free, but I guess I was just so excited that I forgot to ask what they would cost after that if they are not covered under insurance ( and from what I have read on here, most aren't).

Feeling Unmotivated!! HELP!
Angel_P replied to kyrstenmarie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi....I know what it feels like to lose all motivation and just "not care" anymore. Only when I say I don't care, I really do, I just don't want to put forth the effort and discipline. One thing that I learned is to just begin the process whether you are motivated or not. When success starts coming your way, motivation will come with it. I don't have a surgery date yet, but I finish all of the requirements next Thursday. Since my first consultation with the surgeon, I have put on 5 pounds, its almost as if I am having a last meal, then another, then another. I am starting to practice chewing very well though. Good luck to you! Once you set your mind on the solution, half the battle is over with. -
WOW! I love how people love to judge things they just don't understand. It sounds to me like what you are following is super healthy, considering you are making sure that you are getting your protein. My future sister-in-law always looks for the negative in everything and it is sooo annoying, and since she is family, I kind of have to be nice. As of recently I am really sticking up for myself and decided that if you are not rooting for me, you are rooting against me and re-evaluating some of my relationships. I say GO YOU! Its a wonderful feeling when you can put your foot down and stick up for yourself!

Hi everyone, I am Angel and an addict. I did a bunch of my prerequisites today....pulmonologist, pulmonary function test, chest x ray, cardiologist, ekg, echo, and thyroid blood tests. Next week I go for my upper GI and sleep apnea test. I am really excited about this process and about finding recovering addicts going thru this process as well. My best friend is also a recovering addict and he will be having the lap band done as well, but probably a little after me ( his insurance requirements are different than mine), and another friend of ours had the lap band done in December. I plan on giving my sister any pain medication if need be to administer to me(she is not an addict and I trust her 100000%). Nice to meet everyone!

Addiction - the real reason behind obesity?
Angel_P replied to abckids's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am also addicted to food. One suggestion I might have is look up on Amazon for any Overeaters Anonymous books. I dont go to meetings but I know they have some books. Perhaps that would be a step in the right direction? Good luck, and as a good friend of mine says, I eat to live, not live to eat! -
Help understand my blood test results...please!
Angel_P replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I understand, (I am a nursing student) ANY blood in the stool is abnormal, I think that you should mention it to your Dr. Good luck with everything! -
I had the same thing happen with my old PCP, he told me that I would eat right thru the band....so I talked with a friend that had the band and made her Dr my PCP. I would look ask around for Drs in your area that are pro band. Hope you find one soon!

Hi, I am new to this site, I have been reading threads for about a week or two. I had my consultation with Dr. Geiss in Syosset NY on April 12 and have my appointments with the pulmonologist and cardiologist on May 1, and my upper GI on May 7th. My friend had the surgery in December and my best friend is also doing all of his clearance for the surgery. I am super excited, I was told by the Dr's office that my insurance (HIP Prime) doesn't turn anyone down and doesn't requrire the usual 6 month Dr supervised diet. Hopefully I will have the surgery over the summer! One quick question....what is PBing? I tried looking it up in old intro posts but I cant figure it out....maybe if someone could explain some of the shorthand, I would really appreciate it!! :huh2:

Thanks a bunch!
