No "real" food makes me crazy

I know exactly how you feel, the commercials were really tough!! I guess they still are but they dont bother me as much any more. Liquids are to help your stomach start the healing process. If your stomach has to start digesting food too early the stitches in your stomach wont heal properly. When the stomach is digesting food it actually contracts and moves around, so that is why clear. How much longer are you on clear liquids? I know it feels like it will never pass, but it does. Try to do some kind of hobby that in no way could involve food, like a puzzle or something. For me the computer was a trigger at first too because I used to eat in front of the computer all the time. Anyhoo, good luck and remember that this will all pass!
  2. I have an itchy belly too. For me if I scratch a few inches away from the incision it does enough to stop the itching, that way I dont touch the incision, and remember to keep your hands really clean if you touch your belly and don't touch the incisions themselves!
  3. I hope that you feel a little better. I was told that it is common to gain some weight before a fill because usually we don't have any restriction yet. Were you cleared to move on to mushies or solids yet? I was banded on the 30th and I am still on liquids for another week. If so, remember that even tho it was a poor food choice, we aren't going to be perfect when it comes to food over night. My best friend who is getting banded in September has decided that he will only go out to eat with me for a while after the surgery and I decided that it was a good idea ( aside from my family who will also help me remember to make good choices). That way we can keep each other accountable for our choices, and share plates! Don't beat yourself up too bad, what is done is done.

    I'm just so hungry.

The post op mtg is the second Tuesday of the month in the waiting room, but I just remembered that they said you have to call in advance and put your name down. I think its at 7, I have to check my paper work. They also have a new Wednesday afternoon post op mtg that I think meets at 1 or 2 in the Drs lounge by the cafeteria. I wanted to go to the one this upcoming Tuesday but I have prearranged plans that night so I will try to make the one at the end of the month.
  5. I was given a script for vicodin, and I did fill it, but I never used it. I was told to only use it if I absolutely had to. I was able to just use tylenol and an ice pack. Have you tried tylenol? I was surprised how much it helped with the pain. I am now 8 days post op and I haven't taken tylenol in about 3 or 4 days too. I hope you feel better!

    I'm just so hungry.

Hi Healthy Sue, My follow up appt is on the 13th. I sure wish that I could move to mushies sooner LOL. My birthday is on the 14th. But its just wishful thinking and I will Celebrate some other way than food. I will look into that protein mix. I got some other stuff from some health food/ vitamin place that I havent tried yet. The guy that works there gave me a discount and said its one of the best sellers and is really good.....I will post if it is. Are you attending the support group this month? Angel

    Caffeine

My nutritionist told me to try to avoid caffeine for precisely the reason that it is a diuretic. She said for each cup of coffee that I drink I need to drink 2 extra cups of Water on top of my 8. Since I am having a hard time drinking my water to begin with, I am pretty much avoiding coffee. I have to say tho that once I was able to have full liquids I had a cup, and it doesn't taste the same to me anymore, so I haven't really craved it. Maybe that will change down the line.

    I'm just so hungry.

I am so glad I came across this thread. I was thinking of posting something simmilar. I was just banded last week, and have to do 2 weeks of full liquids before moving on to mushies. Luckily for me, mushies include crackers! WOO HOO! Unfortunately, I still have a week and a half of liquids. I am mentally obsessed with the idea of a golden brown towne house cracker right now . I know it will be worth it, but for right now, a week and a half is so overwhelming. And as a side note, I had to switch from medifast to muscle milk lite because the smell was just becoming so nauseating to me, I didn't think I could choke down another drink! Thanks so much for posting this, I really needed to come across this tonight!
  9. I was told to wait 5 days to drive. I haven't drove yet, but I think by day 5 I will be fine.

    Banded yesterday

Wow, congrats on feeling so well so soon after!:cursing: I was banded the day before and was not really feeling that well until late this afternoon. I too am greatly looking forward to full liquids, which I start tomorrow.

    Fever? Nose Bleed?

I was told to contact the Dr.s office immediately if I ran a fever....I would call the Dr just to be safe. Hope you feel better.

Who has or is getting banded in July

Hi, congratulations for the move up! I was hoping that I would get that luck too. I didn't, but my surgery is tomorrow. I cant believe that it is really almost here! Good luck on everything and heres to a quick recovery!!
  14. I have had way too much time to think, since I am a student and took the summer off so I could have the surgery and not have to worry about anything but recovering after. Well all this time that I have, has just been no good. I just keep thinking about all the diets I have tried in the past, in the beginning with all of the greatest of intentions, only to get tired of trying and seeing little results and putting on more weight. And I think that I am going to sabatoge myself. On the other hand, I have never had surgery, and I think that it would be absolutely ridiculous to have a WLS to only work against it and eventually have to have it reversed. I am just really scared of failing once again to lose this weight. I think through it all, I am just determined to not fail! If I can make it through a full week of liquids ( after making my fiancee a homemade blueberry cheesecake ice cream cake for his birthday) without cheating, than I can succeed at this too. Sorry this post is so long, I guess I just needed to work this out in my head.
  15. Thank you. I think I will break out the journal. Haven't done that since I was like 9!
  16. Hi everyone, I am due to be banded on wednesday the 30th and I am almost 6 days on full liquids and I noticed yesterday evening that I was having bad breath. It is like the "ketosis breath" from adkins. That is what I think it is, has anyone else had this too? Does it continue after you are banded? This is horrible. I brush and swish and it comes back! OK just wondering, thanks for any replies!:thumbup:

    surgery the 30th

I am also having surgery on the 30th. 4 more days of full liquids as well.... Ive noticed that its better when I am at home, driving past restaurants triggers my hunger big time, and I finally understand the term head hunger! Good luck! Angel
  18. I have not had the lapband yet, I am scheduled for surgery on wed the 30th. I like the idea of the lapband better because there is no rerouting or removal of organs, and if complications arise, the lapband is removable.

    Should I be losing more???

That is great! My surgeon and his team say that the first six weeks are just about healing, not weight loss, so any weight that you lose in this time is wonderful! I think I know how you feel tho. I am being banded next wednesday and six weeks post op I will probably feel like I should have lost 50 lol! take care and don't beat yourself up!
  20. I have been beside myself for over a week now because my period is well over a week late. I am almost positive it is because of the stress of the surgery coming up on July 30th and starting Nursing school in September and the fact that being preggo now would be the absolute worst time ever. Considering that I have taken 2 tests and both came back negative, and I have a gyno appt on Friday where I will be tested again, I keep trying to tell myself that it is just the stress. But that is my scenario of why I'm convinced my surgery is going to be canceled.........

    Weight Watchers?

I actually joined weight watchers last week, and I am being banded on July 30th. I did it for the same reason I saw someone else post, to help keep myself accountable. The same way the band is a tool, WW will also be a tool. My fiancee is starting the core plan when I start my liquid diet on the 23rd, and once I start mushies, I will be starting on core as well.
  22. I like the spanx better than the full girdles. I feel like they do just as good a job and are much more comfortable.
  23. Thanks for sharing that and I am glad you are feeling better about the band. Hope all is well otherwise

NYC and HIP health insurance ??

I am having the surgery done in Syosset (Long Island). I talked to my dad today and he doesn't think I will have a co-pay as long as its in-network and my surgeon is. I tried to call my insurance company earlier and the call dropped so I figure I will find all that out in the next couple of weeks anyway. I will keep you posted, and keep me posted too!

NYC and HIP health insurance ??

I'm not concerned about it because it is their job to enforce that, not mine. I will stand up for myself and not give into them trying to cover their butts for not properly doing their jobs. One of the women who works at my surgeons office told me that HIP never asks for a 6 month diet. The way I see it, I pay for health insurance to cover expensive things I can't cover myself at one time......and this qualifies. Oh and by the way, I am having my surgery on the 30th.....we are right around the same time!
