Okay so I am wondering why some doctors want you to do a 2-week pre-op liquid diet and others don't. A friend of mine had the surgery a month-and-a-half ago and was just as overweight as I am now. Her doctor did not require a 2-week pre-op liquid diet but mine does. I do not want to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before the operation! Anyone else eat up until the day before surgery?

The cinnamon toothpicks sounds like a good way to go. Thanks... And by the way, the person who told me the Nicorette gum doesn't count was an ex-smoker! SMH still want to smack her in the face though LMAO
-
That's a good idea I'm going to call my doctor's office today and ask what their my insurance is requiring me to not smoke or if it's in fact the doctor. Yeah because if I'm doing the Nicorette gum and not the cigarettes they're still nicotine in my system. Thanks for the heads up

Oh my goodness thank you so much for understanding and giving me wonderfully practical advice and experience of yours. I think it is more the doctor wanted me to quit then it is the insurance and really not sure. I am psyched about being a non-smoker it's just I'm concerned about gaining weight prior to having the surgery that's all. I am doing the Nicorette gum and somebody had the nerve to tell me last night but that doesn't mean you're a non-smoker then! I could have punched him in the face LOL just kidding... Because the truth is not having a cigarette that you're inhaling is hard and getting nicotine from gum is not the same thing. But I've also cut the gum down I probablychew 4 pieces of gum a day

What do you mean by sleeve restriction? What does that mean? Does that mean that only for up to two years will the sleeve work for me? And then it's back to what I have been fighting all my life? Confused -
Hello can I have another question! LOL... I suffer from the diarrhea type IBS and first problem is it seems as though protein powder is causing more issues with my IBS does anyone else have this problem? The other question is , what has other people's experience been who have the same issue with IBS diarrhea as I do after getting the sleeve? Thank you! These are concerning me.

What ARE the higher end protein powders? Do you have the names? I can't know which are better than the rest.

What was your weight on day of surgery? I'm worried about the same thing! I'm 228 pounds What was your weight the day of surgery? My weight is 228 lb right now what's a tentative date of September 24th. I don't want to go through this procedure if I'm only going to lose 30 lb! -

I'm having the same concern as you are. I started at 233 right now I'm at 228 what's a tentative surgery date September 24th. I see a couple people I know that had this procedure what's in the last couple of years they lost some weight but are still way over weight! I'm just really concerned that I have this procedure and only lose like 30 pounds! -
Cool. We should stay in touch!

I have a tentative date for September 24th. I'm also a vegetarian. I have been including and incorporating protein powder into my diet to increase my protein levels as well as to ready myself for pre and post procedure. The problem is is that I get stomach aches and nausea from the protein powders. Is there any suggestions as to what I can try what brands so forth to help me get my protein?
-
Thank you.. I'll try those

Good Day! It's me again..lol Next question/issue: I'm a vegetarian and prefer eating whole natural foods. I'm concerned about all the "non-fat" "sugar-free" "food" that it looks like I'm going to have to eat! So processed, chemical filled, ugh.. HELP! My tentative date is September 24th
-
Thanks again! 😀

After grinding up the peas and beans in a coffee grinder you say you added it to liquids... Is that the liquids before and directly after the procedure? Also, they're dried peas and beans when you add them to the liquid don't they swell up?
-
When you say you Blended soup... Is what you're saying is that whatever kind of soup you had say , cream of mushroom or vegetarian vegetable, you would just put it in a blender and then you could eat it like that?
-
Omgosh.. thank you!!
-
Yes this is what I'm talking about! Well, I have a nutritionist appointment today I'll see what she suggests and keep you updated.

Thank you for your input and experience about this issue. Very appreciated!

Hello all... I have a tentative date for September 24th for my gastric sleeve procedure. I'm very excited and nervous at the same time! One of the questions I have is-- are there any natural or artificial sweeteners that I can use after my surgery going forward with the rest of my life? I'm trying now to get used to not eating sugar but don't want to go to artificial sweeteners if I will no longer be able to eat those either. What about the sugar that are in fruit and milk? How about monk fruit as a sweetener?

Wow you really are a power of example! Thank you so much

That is awesome! You give me hope that eventually after my procedure I will still be able to socialize with family and friends around food
