It’s crazy the vast differences in plans.

I said this same thing when I was in preop. I was sleeved 12/19 and I'm in puree stage for 3 week then I move to soft mechancial which means I chop instead of puree. I'm in that for I believe 3 weeks as well then I get to move to my forever diet. I had to go 28 days 14 post op and 14 pre op with out any solids whatsoever and no it had noting to do with my size etc. All of my dr. patients have to do this because its his preference based on past experience. But other doctors in town let people have a lean dinner at night pre op etc. I said when I retire I may take up the mantle of the getting the boards to put some standardization around this process likt they did with the vitamin requirements. Don't mean doctors will follow it but at least it will be out there. -

Happy Holidays everyone. Just wanted you all to know I did end up losing 7 pounds after 14 days of hellish torture LOL. My doctor said my liver shrank a little but not a lot. He said it will continue to shrink as I lose weight. I was on 19 medications and he said that can sometimes have an effect on the shrinking... so now we know. Surgery went well and other than feeling like I did 100 situps I wouldn't really know I had surgery. No real after effects. I threw up once in the hospital when I took too many of my 19 meds at once but other than that no other issues. I'm back to drinking normally with no problem. Still no food yet, I have 8 more days to go to get to puree but I get milk and yogurt on Wed and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will settle okay but will do small amounts at first. Thanks, everyone for being so nice and supportive! Love this group!

Why you should NOT work out after WLS

I didn't read all the replies but I watched this video sometime ago and he didn't say never, he said until you get closer to your goal weight. If remember correctly I think he said walking was ok but its been a while since i watched. I did pilates and plan to continue with that and walking. It works better for me than the stuff the gyms push. But I'm older so that makes a difference as well. -
Thanks for the words of encouragement all. It was so disappointing I cried and cried... even though I know my body will react this way. I guess not having any food for so long is working my emotions. At least some centers let them have one meal a day. I feel like a prisoner. Now I've pretty much stopped caring... just want to get through it.

Ive been on a 14-day preop diet, 7 days full liquids no food, 7 days clear liquid no food. I have NOT cheated. Now I'm on the 3 days of clear liquid so 10 days of fasting thus far. I was so bad by day 7 developed the shakes, got light head and stumbled a few times catching myself before I fainted. I'm only getting about 800 or less a day calories, 70 avg (some days lower some days higher) carbs. I'm not in ketosis and I have not lost a pound. I haven't gained but I have not lost. There is no way my liver is shrinking.. I'm just suffering. Im one of those people if I don't eat I don't lose weight. When I was in Weight Watchers, if I didn't eat all my points for the week I didn't lose weight. I only lost weight on the weeks where I came within 5 of my assigned points. So the lack of weight loss is shocking and yet not shocking to me at the same time. But I want to know has this ever happened to anyone else. I called my dr hysterical and the PC called me back and said don't worry about it keep doing the diet and it will be okay. But will it? My surgery is early wed morning next week and its Friday now. I have no reason to lie, I have not cheated at all but I'm extremely tempted to go eat some eggs since this has happened. My regular doctor had to take me off my diabetes meds because my blood sugar dropped so low, that is why I was shaking so badly. That should show I'm not cheating. Why am I not in ketosis? I don't have strips but I have been in ketosis before I remember how my breath smelled and I lost 12 pounds in 7 days so I know I'm not now.

I am 12/19 on my 2-week liquid diet now, such torture can't wait to have my surgery so at least I won't feel hungry on this liquid torture LOL

you might surprise yourself. My surgery is 12/19 and for thanksgiving I found I really didn't want much and didn't eat much I'm so excited about starting that liquid diet in a couple of weeks then having my surgery until I don't want to start adding extra pounds now that I'm so close.

I don't think tofu is a problem. Its specifically spells out Soy Protein Isolate. I think the problem is in that form of soy.
-
I'm not sure why but it is in BIG BOLD LETTERS on our list, no protein that is made from soy protein Isolate. Whey Protein Isolate only. I didn't question it because there is SO MUCH to learn and do, I'm just trying to follow the plan given. However I googled it just now and there are a lot of hits about it.. including causing Weight gain... "It contains a chemical known as goitrogen, which can affect the hormones needed to boost your metabolism. This can lead to weight problems and other concerns." https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=Jr_4W63RCseSjwSChJPwBA&q=why+soy+protein+isolate+is+bad+for+you&oq=why+soy+protein&gs_l=psy-ab.1.2.0l3j0i22i30l7.5749.11366..20053...1.0..0.98.1491.16......0....1..gws-wiz.....0..35i39j0i131j0i20i263.uPvjmkI9Bow

Thanks for the comments. It does bring to question why are sleevers required to take bariatric vitamins for the rest of their lives? We have prescribed the same vitamins as the by passers and is told its because our stomachs are too small to hold enough food to get the required nutrition from our food intake. It makes me wonder if this is just a money maker for the clinics since malabsportion is not an issue. They sell all of these vitamins and such even though you can buy them elsewhere if you choose but they give you a lifelong rx of vitamins. I don't know... you've just got me thinking about it all now LOL...

you will be fine. My cousin at some stuff at a wedding 5 days before and she was fine. Just stay clean for the next 5 days. That is what she did.
-
check the ingredients and make sure they protein they are using is not soy protein. We were warned to stay away from soy protein. I don't know why, I didn't really question it.
