    Louisiana checking in

Hi fellow Louisiana. No date for my surgery just starting this journey, my plan have you go through phases and I'm in the phase 1 Keto type diet right now. Good luck to you! I find it interesting you used to play football, I think that will help you with your success because you've been trained to work hard towards a goal. I will look forward to your updates!

    Introduction

Thank you everyone! Your words are truly in encouraging. I plan to learn as much as I can and I'm so glad I found this site!
  4. Hi I'm new to the forum, my Gastric Sleeve surgery is literally many months away. But it never hurts to start learning now. I'm in a program where I have to try to lose on my own with a low carb diet they provided for 3 months. If I'm successful, I move to the next phase which is 6 - 9 weeks of a different lower calorie diet, psych evals, medical testing, doctor approvals, and physical therapy. If all of that goes well, then I move to the surgery phase. I have a choice of bypass or sleeve, but I'm choosing sleeve because I will have a copay and the sleeve is cheaper, also its less risk. I hope it will be the right choice because I need something that is truly going to last, but my understanding is if I do what I'm told and follow the plan future stretching will be minimum. In the midst of all of this I'm also in a financial crisis that I won't go into detail on but getting the money for the copay is going to be a stretch. But I have plans and will follow through with Gods help. I need this surgery, I'm on 15 medications a day. I'm 55, at this rate seeing 65 don't seem to have very good odds. I have tried every thing, even losing up to 100 pounds before... but I always gain it back plus more... typical yo yo. I'm praying this will be the missing tool I need to help me keep it off for good this time. Anyway the program I'm in will pay my copay back if I keep the weight off for 3 years and stay in their program following their appointments, etc. during that time. Also they provide all sort of support through out the 3 years so its a really good plan. But that is all I can really say about it at this time as it a clinical trial. I'm hoping that getting the copay back at the end of 3 years will help motivate me to keep the weight off as well. Anyway I'm looking forward to meeting and chatting as I go through this journey.

Oh my gosh, talk about inspiration! Yes I read your post and my mouth dropped open, that is frigging amazing results! One can only hope I can be as successful, thank you for sharing your journey!
  6. Thanks everybody. I'm just worried I will get to that stage and then therapist say no because I am on antidepressants and anxiety meds, my mom has Alzheimer's and it has put a lot of stress on our family. My siblings and I barely speak which threw me into a depression. I hope these aren't considered "red flags" and I'm not allowed to go forward. I don't gamble because I did see an addiction forming there so I voluntarily had myself banned from all local casinos. I hope they don't see that as a problem and say nope, you're too jacked up...

    C-PAP machine??

Yeah that is what happened to me as well. Fortunately I had some dollars in my FSA so the last two masks I just purchased on my own and wouldn't you know the fourth one is the one that worked LOL. I can only use nasal pillow masks, the kind where the plugs go in your nose, I can't use the other kind. Res Mes Swift LT or Res med FX Bella work best for me. A similar but cheaper one is called Aloha. google: ( the cpapshop . com ) with the word (the) they are really nice people and will help you as much as they can over the phone.

    Time off work

thanks for posting this as I was curious about this. I have had two previous abdominal surgery, on the second one they told me the cleaned out a ton of scar tissue from the first one. that was back in 2004 I often wonder if the second one left scar tissue... guess I will find out soon!
  9. yours sound similar to the one I'm on. I'm on low carb for three months, then they move me to calories restriction for 6 weeks. I think I still will have a liquid portion but its only a couple of days.

    C-PAP machine??

For those having problems with their cpap, have it checked and try different types of masks. It took about 4 different mask attempts but once I found the one that worked for me I was in heaven. I put that thing on and i'm asleep in 10 minutes or less. Also I had to move to an Auto CPAP that adjusts itself to my rhythm during the night so I don't get too much or too little pressure. The first machine my insurance approved was a joke but once I got them to switch it to auto cpap all was well.

A Single Woman and a Single Sleeve

I'm having surgery for health reasons... I want to live. I hadn't really even thought about physical appearance until I read this post. I guess because I was born fat and have been fat all of my life, fat is all I know. It will be interesting to see how I cope with sagging this and that everywhere but in my mind it can't be worst than dealing with fat and the teasing and harassment that goes with that all of my life. At the end of the day if I just get to live so I can have a nice long healthy and enjoyable retirement from work (5 years and counting ) I'm going to be a happy camper. Maybe I can scrounge up money for skin removal surgery later down the road it bothers me too much. I love your prose, good luck with working through your demons.

    Unsupportive mother

She will come around afterwards. it is frightening to do something without mama's approval because mama is usually right through out our lives, so I understand. But if your doctors have told you that you need this surgery for your health then find people that can support you in your decision and lean on them for now. When mama comes around be ready to accept her back with open arms. She is just worried about her baby that is all.

    TMI but need advice...

I'm new this forum, why does it say my reply is hidden? Any in my reply that it hid i was saying you can be tested to see if you have a casein allergy, it happened to my friend.

    TMI but need advice...

also check for casein allergy, I have a friend that developed an allergy to casein which is a protein in milk. The doctor said it had nothing to do with the surgery, just a coincidence she developed this allergy during that period but either way her allergy is real. They can test for it. Now she can only drink A2 milk.

    Insurance

Do your insurance offer claims coordination or patient care coordinator? Sometimes they can help go through process of filing a special needs claim if your doctor feels its life or death for you to have the surgery.

    Hey

In non bariatric surgeries in the past I had to bathe with Hibiclens Soap, it is similar to what doctors use to scrub in with. just don't let it touch your private parts as it burns like hades.. LOL.

Age 60 is the new 40?

I'm 55 in July and I'm just starting my journey. My surgery will be several months off but I'm just reading all I can until then. The program i'm in is a slow one that lasts 3 years all together (they follow you 3 years after surgery to help you keep the weight off). I'm excited, even though it literally be months before I even get to pre op diet, I'm enjoying learning about everything as I go. Good luck with your procedure, lets us know how it goes for you!
