12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling
Beta98 replied to StrawberryLaray's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
ask if they think you need a mild antidepressant, that may help -
Don't do low sugar, do NO sugar. Also stay away from grains and bread to see if that helps... I know when I cut carbs I can get things going in the right direction

Spiraling out of control!! Help!!!
Beta98 replied to EndlessGoals#2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you in counseling? I'm starting counseling before I have my surgery and plan to stay in for a year or longer if needed. I know I have a problem with food, I use it to celebrate, I use it when I'm stressed, I use it when I'm sad, etc. etc. I especially use it when I feel I'm not making progress in my weight loss goals which is silly when you think about it, instead of trying hard I turn to food. Especially if I feel I have been denying myself certain things. That won't stop just because of surgery so I'm going to work with a counselor to help me find other ways of dealing with things. Maybe you can look into that as well. -
unjury has an unflavored powder, it came in my sample kit but I have not tried it yet

Might be cancelling Surgery. Given the choice would you do it again?
Beta98 replied to Chickensoup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ironically a co worker that has lost 80 pounds the traditional way told me today she hopes I can just lose the weight traditional without surgery. I told her I would like that too but in 2010 I loss 100 pounds and by 2012 I had gained 120 back. I have been yo - yoing like that since my late teens. I know I can lose weight but I need help keeping it off, I'm hoping this tool can help me keep it off. I think she understood but even if she didn't I have to do what is best for my healthy and this yo-yoing is not good for me health wise. Glad you did what was best for you. -

Congrats! Hoping for much success! -
When did you begin exercising after surgery?
Beta98 replied to baribetty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Shred baby shred! LOL. Good for you. Here is my thinking, the lack of hunger thing is only going to last so long. Thus I plan to take advantage of that phase as much as possible by walking as much as possible. That is what you did and look at your results, what an inspiration! -
Struggling GAINED 5 lbs this week

I think its the snacks, your body is trying to find a new setpoint and as long as junk sneaks in it feels it doesn't have to. Make it know you have changed your life and it needs to get with the program Good luck! -

Its May 10th, I'm curious did you go forward and if so I hope all goes well today -
I think it is extremely important that is why I'm glad my program is a 3 year long program, it takes 9 months almost just to get the surgery. Plenty of time to work on lifestyle changes with the nutrition coordintor and work on psychological issues as well with the counselor.

How long did it take for your incision pain to stop?
Beta98 replied to baribetty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
in 2004 I had to have internal surgery for non weight loss reasons. The had to cut me open from my navel all the way to the top of my pubic area. I had internal stitches and external staples. Trust me, if you do what they tell you it won't pop. Just take care of yourself. -
My dad used to take that when he had cancer, he said it gave him quite a boost after chemo as well

How does your Rheumatologist feel about you having this surgery? Most autoimmune diseases is the body attacking itself. It thinks your healthy cells are a virus or infection and attacks them. If your body feels it is under attack (even falsely so) you can have flares. What your Rheumatologist says and feel is above what the other doctors think when it comes to surgeries and such because they understand your cells and what is going better than the other doctors. So before you schedule she /he knows what you are planning.

MedicVSG, Don't worry about your wife. Once she sees how well you are doing she will probably want to do something herself. I'm foodie as well, I even write food reviews on occasion for a local publication. I'm just going to have to let that part of my life go. In fact I've been thinking rechanneling it into a healthy lifestyle blog or something we will see. I love to go on cruises and cruises are ALL about eating... but I have decided that the first cruise after surgery will be on where I make it a challenge to eat as healthy as possible, seek out small, healthy meals. 8 years ago I lost 100 pounds and I went on a cruise and lost 7 pounds while on the 10 day cruise!!! So I know I can do this if I put my mind to it and so can you. Hang in there.

I have the same question. I have very full, long and thick natural 4b&C African American hair. When it is full afro mode or a twistout you can't see through it. I have had thick hair all of my life. I'm having a hard time accepting my hair may become thin and see through... would love to hear different experiences but especially from anyone that did NOT lose their hair. In the interim I have started deep conditioning every week and protein packs as needed, but I have been told on other websites none of it matters it can't be avoided I will lose my hair.

I will, stick around for me too. I'm on a long plan months of dieting first, then weeks of counseling, preop diet and finally surgery... but it gives me time to work through what life will be like after its done

WOW... you have a very discouraging situation there... I don't even know what to say on this one..

11 months post-op - Stalled since 7 months

Be careful with doing everything "sugarfree". See what the sugarfree substitute is and what is the fat content, etc. Sometimes they make up for the lack of sugar by adding things that actually work against you. I try to stick to things that have Truvia (stevia) as the substitute, everything else sugarfree I stay away from. Also i'm weary of metformin it made me extremely ill, my doctor switched me to Januvia, I have a copay but its worth every penny. I'm presurgery but this is just my experience from losing in the past. Is hypothyroidism the one that makes you gain weight? I get hypo and hyper confused, but you may need to see if they need to change your thyroid meds since your surgery. -

I don't know if anyone said this, I didn't read all of the replies but on top of what poster allwet said, also get rid of that cheat day. Immediately! I haven't had my surgery yet so you can take my opinion as a grain of salt, but I am the QUEEN of weight loss losing as much as 100 pounds in 10 months before and I can tell your from experience cheat day is only once you have reached your goal weight and is in maintenance mode. Until then say good by to cheat day, gorging on anything you want day. All you are doing is flushing all the good you did all week long down the drain. I have tested this over and over during the past 20 years and have spreadsheets dating back to the 90s to prove. usually the weeks I had spikes during dieting was when I did cheat day especially while in plateau mode. Find none food ways to treat yourself... food should never be a treat anyway, that is how I got to be over 300 pounds using food to celebrate, treat, stop crying, etc. etc. etc. As i wait for my surgery I'm looking for new ways to handle these emotions including something other than treat day. Work those foods into your plan in small portions through out the week, key being small portions... But you're going to HAVE to calorie / carb count for that to work. If you refuse to calorie / carb count, leave those "cheat" food alone... period until you reach goal. Good luck! -
So what will the psych eval sessions be like? Don't see much discussion on it, just want to know what to expect...

Amen!

That is a wonderful Instagram! I feel so encouraged, I saw a lot of foods I thought I would have to get up. So can you have normal meals like that everyday except they are small like you show? That is pretty much what they have me eating now in phase 1 except my portion size is triple what you show LOL. To the original poster, please go look at his Instagram, I think you will see eventually you can have lots of great food just in a smaller portion size. I know for me I always wanted to eat smaller portions, i even got rid of all of my large plates several years ago and went to 8 inch plates, but it did no good I would just walk to the table with two plates in hand. The thought of fitting my meal on one small plate and not being hungry afterwards would be a huge win for me. Maybe you can start looking for what would be a huge win for you and not focus as much on the "loss" of control. I don't know, I'm not a therapist but I agree with those that said therapy would really help you a lot right now.

My niece had this experience and like this poster mentioned she had an emergency bypass and all of her problems went away.
