    Today’s fun :)

I understand your joy, I haven't been able to ride in 20 years. Congrats!
  5. Thanks for the info! I have an autoimmune illness so I might can help you on the steroid gain. Yes steroids can put weight on you, change the shape of your face, eyes etc. I know because I was on them for brace yourself.... SIX YEARS.... it threw me into Cushings Disease. Fortunately I have been mostly off of them for the past 7 years but I'm still carrying that weight. Occasionally I have to take them for about a week or so and one off the things I have learned to do is prep my house before starting them. Get rid of ALL carbs and stick mostly to protein and veggies. Have plenty of green apples around for crunchiness in the middle of the night (they are lower in natural sugar than red apples). Drink plenty of water to push the fluid out of your body. These tips might help it be a 5 pound vs 25 pound gain... good luck!
  6. My NUT is so sweet you can eat her like pie. But having said that, she looked at what I was eating and gave the honest truth about it. So brace yourself, sometimes the truth hurts. She also worked with me to find winning solutions for my situation. I work a very demanding job, have financial issues, and family issues including taking care of a disabled person. Ham salad heavy on the mayo? I just don't think that will fly... but I could be wrong.. maybe its okay for your body and situation. I know my Nut has me making ham roll ups for lunch. That is where I take several thin slices of ham, a slice of real cheddar cheese (not the processed kind) and roll it around shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers or other salad type veggies.... its sooooooooooo yummy. (I'm in the pre - pre op phase, not the liquid diet phase yet). I can even dip it in ranch dressing (the regular kind not the low fat kind) if I want to but here it the key, I had to let the carbs go.... even the low carb breads and wraps. She told me if I couldn't do that then she would have to find another plan for me. So a good NUT will find what works for you but you have to be willing to at least try what they suggest and report back the honest truth on what you are and are not doing so they can know what adjustments to make. I reported back my fruit servings and it was way too many so they changed it and now I'm losing again. You have to open yourself up, put the past in the past and look at this as a new journey. Be willing to at least try and if you find yourself choking or whatever document it and go back so they can adjust. But just try.
  7. Checking in, are you ok? Someone else had the spitting up blood issue and had a loose or missing staple so please have it checked out if you already haven't.
  8. Azmassage, I get it now! I know someone that had surgery 2 and 1/2 months ago. They went in weighing 425 and thus far have loss 40. This was perplexing to me... seem like they should have lost much more in almost 3 months. Then today when I was talking about what I'm eating now the person spoke up and said, wow you're eating more restrictive than me. So I said what do you mean, and they showed me there grocery receipt from this past weekend... ! Salami, pasta... all kinds.. like stuffed with cheese such... just all sorts over processed foods and stuff, wine, diet sodas, ice cream, CHOCOLATE MILK.. the list went on and on. I'm like some of this is for your spouse right? And they told me no, that was just their food, the spouse buys their own stuff now so not to be a temptation.... ??? The entire time I was thinking, you need to substitute this with that and this with that... but I didn't dare say a word... we aren't close like that, just co workers. So I did ask, aren't you having problems keeping some of this stuff down? and they said at first but they worked through it.... Where is this person's nutritionist? Are they looking at the food logs? Now I'm going to stop complaining and thank my lucky stars I am in this long program. Yes it is going to take forever for me to get my surgery but I'm so glad they are giving me the proper eating plans now, making me go through counseling (which I hate) review my weight and food logs every week and all the other stuff. I think some people need that kind of time and exercises before committing to surgery, including me. This person didn't have to do all of that because they went through their spouses plan where it is covered where as we are not covered so I'm having to go through a clinical trial program and there is a lot to do before I can even get final approval for the surgery. So sometimes its good to just be grateful for what God (or whatever higher power a person believes in) has provided you with and stop wishing you had what the other side has. I'm just shocked but thought about your post and wanted to say yes you are correct!
  9. This is probably why the 4 to 6 month pre diet they have me on is the way that it is. High protein but lean protein with added healthy fats, veggies, certain fruits, no processed foods, grains, breads, etc. To prepare me in eating the correct way for when solids come back afterwards. Its a long program but I think they have their reasons for making it this way. I envy the people that can get their surgery in 1 to 3 months wait but this long almost a year way may actually work out better for me. thanks!
  10. Wow that is amazing, super congrats! Yes you should definitely be a spokesperson it will help you stay motivated as well! Great to see someone in my age group with this type of success! I too will be 55 at surgery time.

    Seriously?! Losing my mind!

Gee your PCP sounds like a peach... yeah find another one as soon as you can. I'm the same measurements as you and when I told my PCP I wanted surgery she was like praise God hallelujah at last... well not using those words but that was her reaction.. LOL... I hope you feel better soon.
  20. Amy how are you? Gosh I hope things are getting better!

    Weird question...

Names and tags don't bother me. I describe myself as super morbid obese when I need to. I have even told people to look for the fattest person in the room and it is probably me. I am what I am. I wish it did bother me because I'm one of those people that when something bothers me I fix it.
  22. I have RA as well and would like to know. My Rheumatologist told me that it should be all good and nothing bad, but I worry because my body is already attacking itself because it thinks its under attack when it not.. with the surgery "stir" something up and make it attack me more but she said no, it shouldn't... so I have to trust her.
  23. I'm on one of those plans where you have to lose as much as you can for 6 months before you can get approved and then start the real pre op stuff. Anyway I'm about 8 - 9 weeks in on the plan which is low carb high protein and I'm really struggling. Not with food, the food is fine but the weight is not melting off like it should on a low carb plan. My doctor made some tweaks to my diet last week and I'm trying that now and it did help stop the slow climb I was having but my body seems not to want to go beyond 10 pounds loss. Now here is my real fear... if I'm struggling this much on a pretty liberal diet where I still get to eat all the things I like with the exception of highly processed foods, sweets, grains, bread. Which honestly I really don't miss at all.... what is it going to be like when I get to the real highly restrictive diet I'm expected to follow pre and post op? I don't know, I'm beginning to have doubts that maybe surgery won't help and all sorts of crazy thoughts like maybe something is just wrong with me. I swear I have not been cheating at all! Yet I've only loss about 10 pounds???? what is wrong with my body... sigh... The fear that I might go through surgery and nothing changes wakes me up in the middle of the night in a panic.....

    Not sure it's working

This sounds like carb withdrawal. I get the same way when I first stop all carbs. I become hungry as heck until I get enough protein in me to take over, it usually takes about 8 days or so for my lack of hunger to kick in once I give up carbs.
