  1. Hello everyone, I was banded on the 8th also. Tummy is a little tender, but the gas pains are the worst part, they are in my shoulders. Not really hungry, but I am making it a point to get the 50 grams of protein in so I don't loose my hair. I am hoping this gas goes away soon as I hope to return to work on Monday.
  2. I am just getting home today my surgery was yesterday 7/8. Everything went great. My surgeon loaded me up with anti nauseau meds so I haven experienced any of that. The only paid I have is from the gas in at it in my shoulders. I took some gas x and some liquid tylenol and that seems to be helping. I did not fill my script for the roxicet, I am going to see if the tylenol is enough. Not too much pain and I am hoping it stays that way. Not too much sleep in the hospital, room mate snoored, machine kept alarming due to a low pulse rate, air pumps on legs and the room was very warm, but I am at home and in my own bed now. Good luck to everyone else and I will post again later.

Pre-Op Appt. Down...6 days to go!!

Hi, my surgery is on the 8th also. I had my pre-op apt yesterday. I have been on the pre-op diet since Saturday, I have lost 2 pounds since I started. I am sticking to it, my husband says a little too much. I have only been averaging 500-700 calories a day. But I am getting 50 grams of protein and that is what is important. Good luck!
  4. I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet. I have to do this for 10 days. I can have low fat yogurt and low fat cottage cheese, not more than 3 per day. Protein shake, not more than 3 per day. All the crystal light, diet soda, tea/coffee with no sugar, bullion, s/f jello-popsicles-fudgicles that I want. Saturday was easy, yesterday was okay, this morning started off okay but on my way home from work I was starving! Once I had a cup of bullion and cottage cheese I was fine. Surgery will be here before I know it! I have lost one pound since Sat.

    Who's Getting Banded in July?

I am scheduled for the 8th as well. Good Luck!
  6. Congrats! I just rec'd my date this week also, 7/8 which is sooner than expected due to a cancellation so I have many emotions too! Good luck and we can help each other thru this new and exciting step in our journey :blushing:
  7. I was notified today by my surgeon that they had a cancelation and can fit me in for surgery on 7/8. I am soooooo excited (and a little nervous). BUT I need to start my pre-op diet on Saturday and I have not purchased any Protein drink products. The dietician gave me 3 samples of unjury. I tried the vanilla and it was okay, but I haven't tried the others because I was thinking I had another month before surgery. Does anyone have any recommendations for others products that you liked and your surgeon approved? Thanks!

Sorry for your situation, but always feel free to vent, it makes everyone feel better. Good Luck next week, I hope it all works out in the end.

    High risk of pregancy

20 years ago, I had just lost 30 pounds and got PG unexpectedly. I remarried 4 years ago and we have been trying the whole time with no luck. Murphy's law I guess, when you don't want it it happens, when you do want it it doesn't. I am thinking that the band may be very helpful, but I will wait as has been recommended for at least a year before trying so as not to cause any issues.
  12. I chose my weight goal based on what I was before i became pregnant 20 year ago. Maybe that is streatching it a bit, but I just checked and my BMI would be 21.5 which is a healthy BMI so I think it is good. ANY actual weight loss would be great!

    GP derailed me today!

Glad to hear you got what you wanted and should have gotten. I went to my PCP on Friday and I knew he was not a fan of the LB, but he said he would write the letter. He said he never denies, but he has concerns about being able to "beat" the system. I explained why I felt I thought it would work for me and he said then go for it. Glad to hear we both will be able to start on our journey! Good Luck!
  14. I am going to Adam Glasgow also, no date yet still in the preliminaries

    GP derailed me today!

okay, so I am wondering if I will be in the same boat. I discussed w/PCP WLS last year. He said he was not a fan and would not recommend it. I did try to loose weight to no avail, going back to PCP for check ups. I canceled my appt in Feb and decided to check out lap band. I needed a referral for the first consult with surgeon and his office gave it. Now, I have an appt tomorrow w/PCP to ask for the letter....not sure how this will go.....if he does it, I could be scheduled w/in 4 weeks for surgery because other tests have already been done...keeping my fingers crossed
  16. first seminar I went to I was told $500.00 out of pocket to cover psych and program fees. I did not care for Dr that did seminar so I went to another one. Love the Dr. at 2nd seminar. Fee is $175.00 only for the psych evaluation. Both seminars were in southeastern MA. Definately shop around if you can. My insurance (BCBS MA) will pay for everything else except office visit co-pays.

    need some tips

I am at the same stage of the proces. I am going to set up and appt w/PCP and ask that he write the letter. He is not a champion for the surgery, so I am going to have to work on him. I hope this isn't what holds up the process for me. I would just have him state that he was talked with you X # of times about weight loss, he knows that you have tried X Y Z and that he feels you are a canidate for the procedure. Good Luck.
  18. Love the "cankle" post, made me chuckle. I will not miss having no energy which leads to my "bored" eating habits.

    I'm on the way!

Great! I had my appt w/surgeon today, now need to do all the pre-work up, labs, psych consult, etc. He said since I had a sleep study w/in the last year I don't need to do that. Hopefully, I will have a date w/in 6 weeks. Time to update my profile.
  20. How did you make out? Did your insurance cover your surgery?
  21. I am attending my 2nd seminar on Thursday (did not care for MD at first place). Can you tell me some great questions that were asked that you learned something from? I have been researching and reading on this site for about 2 months now, but I am sure there are things that I have not thought about. Ironically, I work for a hospital in the reimbursement area and my boss came to me this week asking me to research lap band because we may start it at my hospital.....how weird, I know he doesn't know that I am looking into this for myself personally. Thanks for anything you can share.
  22. Thank you for your story, it is very helpful. I find that we have some things in common and I can relate to what you have posted. I am going to a second educational session on Thursday and hopefully will start my journey soon.

    Skin Fold Rash

I had a similar issue where OTC stuff helped for a while and then it came back. I went to DR and he gave a prescription. It may be a fungus (sounds realy bad but that is what causes many rashes) and the script cured it right away and it has not come back. I also heard that this type of issue may help w/PS so definately get it documented in your record to help with any pre-auth issues if you are thinking about it. Good Luck.
  24. Has anyone had Drs. Glasgow at CCH in Norwood? Going to a seminar in May. Went to one at another facility but was not happy with the MD, rubbed me the wrong way. Any problems w/BCBSMA insurance in getting an approval for pre-testing, psych eval and surgery? Also, at first seminar I went to, presenter said they require 500.00 upfront because insurance does not cover "education" by a psychologist. Anyone find that to be true? I am just starting out, so any help is greatly appreciated.
