    Vasayo

Has anyone used the Vasayo core instead of flinstones vitamins? I am going to ask my dr next month but thought I would check here too. The liposome delivery system seems like it would be good for my new digestive system. Thanks for any info you may have.

    Packing for Surgery...

Ear plugs and a night mask-to help you sleep-hospitals are noisy places! Bathrobe so you are more comfortable when walking the halls. Lip balm too. Good luck!

    Constipation Question?

I added stool softness to my pill box every other day for about a month post surgery. It helped greatly. Good luck!
  4. Through pre surgery work up found out I have this. Started 10 day regime of antibiotics. Did this affect anyone? I was told it is very common, many have it and never know it but they always check prior to surgery. I just hope these meds don't make me sick-side affects sound awful!
  5. Roasted edamame, sunflower seeds, nuts, EAS pre-made protein drinks are my suggestions. You will be surprised how many how many health nuts are in NYC-you will find protein options in many stores along your journey. Good luck
  6. Today is my 4 month anniversary and I am down 37 pounds since surgery and 60 pounds from my highest weight- I could not be happier! I know others have lost more than me in the same time frame, but I am very happy with my weight loss this far- people have noticed but I have not received one of those shocking comments about loosing too fast or are you sick, etc. I continue to enter all my food in MFP which is very helpful. I sometimes struggle with getting all my protein in, but I strive to hit 70 grams a day. Fluids are not an issue I hit the recommendation every day. I have not had any food issues other than I can't have oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast- my body is turning those items into sugar too fast and I end up running to the bathroom. Maybe someday but I am not pushing it. I have had a couple of mini stalls and I find that if I increase my calorie intake then I loose a pound or two. I also hit my 2nd short term goal of weighing less than my husband, finally! Working on trying to come up with another short term goal. Wishing you all the same success and good luck on your journey!

    Hair loss

My biotin dissolvable is 5,000mcg and I take one per day. My multi vitamin has 40mcg in it, so I am taking 5,040 per day. Good luck!

    Hair loss

4 months post op and I have a lot falling out now. I take biotin dissolvable tablets every day. My hair is also growing quite fast- I have had to move my coloring appointment up by a week! No thinning just a lot of hair in the shower and on my brush. Good luck!
  9. Does anyone know how many sizes can be offset by using a seamstress? For example I have some dresses and skirts that are a size 20 and I am now fitting into a 16 (YEAH!) and I am wondering if they can be taken down by a seamstress or if that is too much of a size change and they won't look/fit as they originally did....thanks for any insight.

    Tears of joy-Onederland!

    Congrats!!!!!

    Honey

I can't do oatmeal because my body changes it to sugar too quickly so to add sugar to that might not be good early on. My dr said to wait 6 months and try again then. Also, only a 1/2 tsp of honey per serving is recommended by my nut. Good luck!

The time frame between fluids and food?

    30 minutes before and after

    At the beginning

I had mine in revised on 3/10/15 and have no regrets! I go today for my 3 month follow up....very interested to see how my blood work is. I feel great and have been averaging 10-12lbs loss each month. The only food I can't tolerate is oatmeal and cream of wheat ...both on the approved list but no luck. Good luck!
  14. How do I get my vitamins recorded? Is there a way to set reminders to take them too? Thanks for any ideas...

    Food Measurements

My nut said the size of your thumb is approximately 1oz for meat and fish. I generally use that. Also all cut pieces must be smaller than the size of dice before going in your mouth-then chew chew chew. Good luck!

    Blahhh

Hang in there, one day at a time. Rest, liquids, Protein and walking are the only things you should be concerned with right now. The meds made me feel blah, so only use them if you definitely need them. If the hernia was repairable during surgery they would have done it, but not all are depending on the type and location. Good luck on your journey!
  17. I just found roasted edamame and I really like them. 1/4 cup = 14g Protein. I bought the lightly salted version. They also had wasabi but I am not a fan of that. This satisfies my need for crunch and salt. I have also tried roasting garbanzo Beans. Still working on that...different recipes but can't seem to get them all to be the same texture...some are over cooked while others are under cooked...I will keep trying. Please share your favorites.

    Very excited!

I was band to bypass all in one surgery and all went well. If your surgeon is comfortable/confident in doing it in one surgery you will be fine. Good luck!

    Alcohol

Did your surgeon/nut say no alcohol? If so, for how long? And how long did you wait before your first drink? Mine said none for a year (I knew that would be hard) because of the added stress on the liver. I had a glass of wine 6 weeks post op while on vacation-it took me 3 hours to drink one glass because I was nervous of the potential effects. It did hit me more than before surgery(as expected). I used to drink 3-4 glasses a week prior to surgery. I would not advise doing it all the time(I hear many bypass patients become alcoholics post surgery). This is where my tastebuds have changed post surgery -wine just doesn't taste as good as it used to.

    Alcohol

Regarding the differences among each surgeon I am glad they are taking each individual into consideration when providing their guidelines-it makes me feel like they are considering the person and their situation and not just "this is what is done". Not everyone is the same...as we all know...

    Alcohol

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate your feedback and insights. By no means will I be drinking in excess (not a practice of mine-ever) but I am a social drinker and will make an informed decision should the situation arise. I did speak to my practitioner prior to going on vacation and she said she would not advise it and I had 10 more months to go before the year was up. I am not hiding anything from my surgeon and when I go to my 3 month follow up I will mention that I had a drink. I know a few RNY patients that drink and do not have any problems-moderation is key I am sure.
  22. I have not had any movement since 4/22/15-the scale has been stuck on 200.2. I knew about stalls but really ...200.2????? Any how my first Mother's Day gift was getting on the scale this morning and seeing 199!!!!!! HW 245, lap band low was 209, RNY SW 222 (3/10/15), today 199 (I just had to write that again...lol). Next minny goal 185 and I will weigh less than my husband! Happy Mothers Day to all and to all good luck!
  23. Here is what I was referencing related to starvation mode-reduction in metabolism due to lack of food-not starving to death...

    Drainage catheter

I was a band to RNY revision and had one for 2 days post surgery.
  25. Your body is healing. Your caloric intake is so low your body will go into starvation mode-your metabolic rate slows as well. Hang in there. I just got over a 17 day stall at 6 weeks post op. It will go down, have patience. Good luck!
