Progress pics 10 months post op
MIZ60 replied to sleevedshereen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow!! You look like you are at your goal weight now. Amazing transformation!! -
I take the bariatric advantage capsule ones (opened and sprinkled on yogurt for the first 2 weeks---yuk) and such pain...it is the closest I have came to throwing up in this whole process. I now take one at a time, wait 30 minutes and drink at least 8 ounces of water and then take the second one. Much better. P.S. Looks like we are ticker twins

Not losing weight on pre-surgery diet
MIZ60 replied to rockyday's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would think you are doing fine. Make sure you are drinking a lot of water since you are probably in ketosis. If your urine is darker than pale yellow you should chug some more water. -
A Chicken Stir Fry Favorite
MIZ60 replied to Creekimp13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I make some stir fry that is very similar, just adding water chestnuts because I love them and substituting riced cauliflower for the brown rice. Also add some gluten free soy sauce mixed with sesame oil. This is SOOO good and satisfying. -
Have you lost as much and as quickly as you thought you would after surgery?
MIZ60 replied to jrsone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
40 pounds in about 7 weeks is fantastic!!! Men make me sick jk….keep up the good work!! -
Right there with you!! Yesterday was 3 weeks since surgery and I have been on purees for 1 week at this point. Weight is the same today as it was on Sunday. I am meeting all my goals (protein, calories, fluids) and yesterday was my highest carb day (30 with 10 grams fiber=20 net) due to eating some mashed up borracho beans at a birthday party. Daily walking at our neighborhood trail of 1 mile a day. I refuse to let it bother me and fortunately I don't have any bad things in the house. This too shall pass!!

Congratulations!! Many people (myself included) have "fat goggles" that keep them from seeing the progress they are making. Trying on stuff that you do not think will fit and finding them too big is objective proof that your body is changing no matter what the scale says. WooooHooo!!!!!

Congratulations!! That shows real progress!!

Protein and Carbs...Help!
MIZ60 replied to DesertGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use baked chicken breast pureed with a little bone broth and greek yogurt and that is 9 grams per ounce. I eat 3-4 ounces throughout the day. Cottage cheese is 3 grams protein per ounce and I eat 2 ounces per day. 1 PP shake with my AM coffee is 30 g protein. That is a total of 63-72 grams of protein. 2 grams carb for the cottage cheese, less than 1 total for the chicken, 3 for the shake. I also eat some garlic mashed cauliflower about 3 ounces per day (I carb) I do add some Land of Lakes light butter to the cauliflower and about 1/2 teaspoon Duke's mayo per serving of the chicken. I honestly am not worried about a moderate amount of fat and will not be using any fat free stuff....just nasty. My program does not allow any eggs, oatmeal, pudding, milk or soup at this stage. Liquid stuff just runs through the pouch and does not lead to satiety.....so they say. My surgeon is against eggs and I do not know why. I can have fruit but I see no reason since I am satisfied. My next things to try are tuna and black beans. count -
I am right where you are in that I had surgery the same day and am currently on pureed food. The only things I would ask is are you (sorry) pooping well since backed up poop can cause weight gain and are you drinking plenty of water. You will retain fluids if you are not drinking enough. On the pureed front, I am only doing chicken, cottage cheese, cauliflower and greek yogurt so far so basically only a few carbs. Not adding fruits or any other carbs for a while. Hang in there!!

First of all, Takis are not food. They are highly processed chemicals full of unhealthy crap. There is no reason for anyone to eat them and since you now have limited food capacity they have no place in your diet. If you are "heartbroken" not to eat some junk food then you need to address that with counseling. I myself love kettle chips....especially the jalapeno ones....and I know they will have no place in my diet ever again. You can always do some research and identify some spicy/crunchy snacks to make yourself and enjoy. Spicy foods are likely tolerated on an individual basis as long as the ingredients are healthy and low calorie. Breading things like chicken, fish and vegetables adds nothing but calories and fat and breaded foods also need to be avoided in weight loss and weight maintenance programs. Where I live in Texas, breaded stuff is almost like a religion. Since I have gluten sensitivity I do not eat breaded stuff at all. Before surgery I did eat cornmeal crusted fish and pecan crusted chicken once in a while but not even considering those until I have reached my goal. Again, do your research and find recipes that sound good to you and try them out. Remember, nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels.

Out With the Old--In With the New!
MIZ60 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aw thank you Fluffy!! Taken on our last cruise (I cropped out the mojito I was drinking) in December 2015. It was a great time and I am excited to go again, hopefully in December this year. Congratulations on the downsizing...I will be thrilled to wear any pants that are a number without a W or X. -
How much weight did you gain in the hospital?
MIZ60 replied to starbuckslas's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was up 6 pounds the day after surgery when I went home. It went away in 3 days, plus took another 3 pounds with it. The more water you are able to drink after surgery helps signal your kidneys to let go of the extra fluids. They were giving me 200 ml of saline with potassium for about 24 hours. -
Not all calories are equal, your percentages of protein, carbs and fat are also important. Also make sure to count all liquid calories you take in. Try not to drink soda or juices. Get rid of all starchy carbs (bread/rice/potato/pasta) and focus on all the yummy vegetables available in the summer. A little fruit is also okay. You might want to consider a ketogenic or paleo diet during this time which do decrease your appetite after a few days. Eating off this plan is dangerous, I myself could easily gain 5 pounds in a weekend of "celebrating". Also try for daily exercise and slowly build up to an hour per day. Good luck!! One day at a time!!

Different programs/surgeons allow different things during the preop diet so it is probably best to check with yours to be sure. My program in central TX allows no juice of any kind and no liquids (other than shakes) that are more than 15 calories per serving. The protein shakes I used (Premier Protein) have only 2g net carbs and lg sugar per 11 oz. serving.

I think I figured it out
MIZ60 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I was not vomiting but there was a lot of crampy discomfort when I first tried to drink the shakes (premier protein) out of the refrigerator so I diluted them with about 10 ounces of decaf or hot water and they seemed to go down much easier. I hope you get it figured out since you need the protein to heal. Good luck!! -
Out With the Old--In With the New!

Your dinner looks amaze-balls!! Said as I sit here relishing my 1.25 ounce serving of Daisy Low Fat cottage cheese... Congratulations on your good reports from the doctors except BOOO!! on the UTI. I detest taking antibiotics other than the old stuff like amoxil and keflex. Hope you get through it and feel better soon. -
Please keep me/us posted. That sounds a bit serious and very frustrating to me. Make sure they know about the dizziness and nausea you are experiencing and ask them to keep an eye on your electrolytes (especially potassium) with all those diuretics. It is great that you already had a cardiac cath that was normal.

One week out and in the ER
MIZ60 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a real circle jerk, especially not providing you with your routine medications that you need and not having any orders after that long. How in the world can your surgeon be on call and unreachable....that is just crazy. It is hard with a medical background to be patient and roll with things, I am not too good at it myself. Fortunately, I have used one healthcare system here (Baylor Scott and White) and in 15 years I have very few complaints. I love my PCM and all three of the surgeons I have had in the last 4 years. I hope you stay on the mend and are able to get back on track girl!! -
Not rude at all. From my preop appointment on 4/26 until today I have lost 17 pounds. From the start of my 2 week preop diet until today (4 weeks) I have lost 24 pounds. In addition to the PA I also saw the nutritionist...she said I should expect to start losing a bit more quickly after starting foods but I honestly feel so much better than I did 4 weeks ago that I am more than happy with where I am at.

You certainly can be dehydrated with edema since the fluid is in the "third space" (soft tissue) and not available to your organs. Sounds like cardiac and renal malfunction. Was this all happening before your VSG? I drink about that much fluid every day and no edema. I was required to have a cardiac stress echo before surgery which was normal. I hope you get this sorted out soon. The Lasix should help the SOB and leg swelling. Years ago, one of the nurses in my office had those 2 symptoms (she was in her 30s with normal weight) and it turned out it was her mitral valve that was messed up.

One week out and in the ER
MIZ60 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well at least that is reasonably good news. Here's to a good night of rest, rehydration and reassurance. -
Well I had my 2 week follow up today and can officially start some pureed stuff. First up was a tablespoon of pureed chicken breast mixed with a little broth and greek yogurt. So far so good. PA was amazed at my fluid intake (about 110 oz plus 3 Premiere Protein shakes yesterday) and said my weight loss so far was about average. I am really feeling fine....almost like it never happened. Will be ramping up my exercise over the next couple of weeks.....so far just a lot of walking and some 3-5 pound dumbells for upper body work. Chicken was a little bland but IT WAS NOT A PROTEIN SHAKE!!!

MIZ60 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SO SORRY to read this!! You were definitely right to go to the ER!! I hope they are able to get it sorted out for you and get you back on track. Scary stuff. Will be sending good e-vibes your way. -
The best way to determine if and for how much an item will sell is to go on eBay and search an item you have (brand, size,) and look on there. For example, Lane Bryant Jeans 20. You can also search for sold listings and/or completed listings to see if the item actually sold and for how much. I do this when I am selling stuff and it helps me decide whether to sell or donate. I usually start all my auctions at $2.99 to $4.99 plus buyer pays shipping since that generates more bids. You also have an option to place a "Buy It Now" option for someone that does not want to wait a week for an auction to end. If I use Buy It Now it is usually for higher end and/or new with tags items. Shoes and purses also sell well. Good luck!! I am listing a bunch of stuff this weekend!!
