    Post Op Pain

By 16 days out I was having no pain at all. Pain could be due to trapped gas or constipation if things are not moving along. I did have to take some milk of magnesia a couple of times in the early days. However, if you have a fever, vomiting or increasing pain I would call your doctor immediately or go to the ER since it is possible that you have some sort of abscess or even appendicitis.
  2. I would also make certain you are drinking a minimum of 100 oz. of water a day, avoiding all fluids with calories and just stay with it. I would also look at the ingredients of the frozen meal since if it mostly carbs that might prevent weight loss. Make sure your shakes don't have a lot of sugar in them. My program allowed 2-3 shakes per day (I used premier protein but there are others) and 1 meal of 4 oz. protein and 1 cup of non starchy vegetables daily. I could also have sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello and sugar free pickles. I lost 15 lbs. in 14 days and only struggled a few times with feeling hungry. My only deviation from the plan was a teaspoon of natural peanut butter a couple of times. Surgeon said my liver looked "perfect" and no complications from surgery. Good luck to you!!

How did you pick your user name?

People at work constantly say MIZ (last name) rather than Mrs. (last name) and I turned 60 a few months before surgery. I am not very imaginative or creative.
  4. It is being brought only by one individual who insists that her way is "best", that all the rest of us who eat differently are killing ourselves, has an incredible need to be condescending and apparently needs attention even though she is so superior to the rest of us. I can not think of another individual on here that operates in that manner.
  5. I am trying a modified fasting period of at least 12 hours but I am still drinking my coffee with Premiere Protein in the mornings, just no actual foods for at least 12 hours. Seems pretty easy so far.
  6. I chose 150 since that was the weight I was able to maintain in my 40s with no real concerns. Pretty much ate what and how much I wanted. Weight gain really started for me when I was about 47. I was 125-130 in my 20s but I can not picture myself at that weight now. All of my comorbidities have completely resolved now and I am in disbelief. I still need to lose at least 60 pounds which will happen when it happens.
  7. Just watch out for the sugar alcohols in a lot of the frankenfood on the market labeled sugar free. These can cause dumping in anyone with or without surgery. For some hilarious reading on Amazon look up sugar free gummy bears. I use liquid splenda and liquid stevia with no problems.

    Non Scale Victories

Two weeks ago I was able to join my husband and group of friends on a 2 day motorcycle ride touring the Frio Canyon and Hill Country in central Texas. We also visited the LBJ ranch, Garrison Distillery and Luckenbach. All told, 560 miles ridden from Saturday morning until Sunday evening. I could never have done this 5 months ago. I am in the white shirt😎

    Pound of cure

This is only a guide to the first month after surgery when most are drinking commercially available protein shakes. For me, all that fruit is excessive in the first month after surgery but to each his own. I would think those IN THE FIRST MONTH who can not tolerate commercially available protein shakes might benefit from something like this. By the time we are able to eat whole foods I do not think these (or any other) drinks are the best choice since they slide right through the sleeve...my program says no to liquid calories like this as a major component of a post operative diet. I eat many vegetables but little fruit because I do not like it and my nutritionist is fine with that. I use some splenda and stevia for coffee and in sugar free popsicles but try to avoid the other fake foods on the market.
  11. Try some smart water infused with some fresh ginger and add a small amount of natural honey. Try to drink only a sip at a time and have it warm. I did not have much problem post op except with cold liquids but several of my friends with morning sickness have had great success with this mixture. I would also consider a trip to the ER just for IV fluids to fill up your tank since dehydration can also cause the symptoms you are describing. Good luck!!

    Fat

I avoid low fat anything...just nasty. I do try to eat only healthy fats as much as possible although I do use real butter in recipes but since I consume such small amounts I do not think it is an issue. I did adhere to my programs' recommendations for low fat for the first few months. Have never tried anything fried or greasy though. Fat is an important nutrient and also provides satiety in the diet.

    K I S S

Still far from goal but I think about this a lot. I had success 10 years ago losing over 40 pounds and only had about 25 to go to reach my goal. After that I gained 110 pounds in about 8 years.... It started slowly, maybe eating a couple of french fries off husbands plate or "a few" Kettle chips at a party. Then it was the Atkins bars which are candy but somehow seemed acceptable to delusional MIZ. Then maybe a margarita instead of vodka soda when out with friends. I tell myself every day that there are certain foods and food groups that I will NEVER have again since I know the slippery slope they create. I try to concentrate on mindful eating and learning that I am the only person who determines what goes in my body. So far, for 6 months, I have been successful with this but I know it will be harder as time goes on. Went to breakfast last Sunday with a group of 7 biker friends to a small town diner. This place is really good. I ordered my omelette and told the waitress no bread and no potatoes. I asked for a box when she brought my food and ate the amount I wanted and took the rest home. I do not think anyone in the group heard me or noticed. We were having a great day and it is not about my eating or what I could not have. This is what I know it will take for me to maintain. If I can go 9 years without a cigarette I can go the rest of my life without potatoes, sugar and other things I do not need.

Unsupportive partners make me so angry!

The discipline to succeed has to come from inside you and not from someone else. That said, I am very lucky to have a supportive husband. After 35 years together, we have definitely not always been on an even keel together but he knows how much this means to me and does try to help as much as possible. I could not imagine him actually doing things deliberately to throw me off course. By joining me on the daily walks and eating more healthy he has lost 17 pounds without really trying too hard. He was not massively overweight by any means (BMI started at 28 and now 25) and feels great. Life is too short to be unhappy with a partner.

    Swimsuit worries

I am almost 5 months out and down almost 70 pounds from my highest weight ever. I do have a ways to go and I do see some loose skin developing but that is fine with me. I feel 100% wonderful and would not hesitate to wear a swimsuit on a cruise. The thing about a cruise is that you see all types of bodies and no one really cares. Besides, you can always wear a cute coverup over you suit if you are uncomfortable. I would ignore your sister and focus on yourself. Exercise and hydration are your friends moving through this process. Look at Joyce Vedral's website for some awesome free weight exercise program that focus on women.
  16. This is the basic recipe I use with a few changes. I purchase frozen cauliflower rice from Trader Joes. I have made it myself with the food processor in the past and it is just a PITA and gets EVERYWHERE and my poor little dog goes haywire . I also use frozen stir fry veggies from Sams instead of peas and carrots. I also add extra water chestnuts because I love them. Super easy and really good....husband loves it as well. Next time I am going to use shrimp instead of chicken.

    The weight on my mind

I agree with you that insurance companies are unreasonable about a lot of things and many do not cover what they consider cosmetic procedures. You might try getting one or more of your doctors on board to help appeal the process and explain your situation. I and three other providers wrote letters to one of our CMAs insurance when they denied her panniculectomy about how the pain from the constant infections affected her work and how the infections put patients at risk and they finally agreed to cover it. I do not know if you work but even with 3 kids there are ways to make money with work from home options. My SIL lives in MA and she did home based medical billing/coding for about 15 years when her kids were growing up. Start a savings account for the procedures you want and eventually you will get there. You might also go see a few plastic surgeons and see if they would be willing to work with you at a discount or with affordable payments.

    Going out to eat

Always enjoy eating out a couple of nights a week. Usually either Mexican (chicken/shrimp fajitas with no tortillas and borracho beans) or a favorite place that has a more burger/sandwich theme (chicken tenders grilled with sliced avocado, tomato and borracho beans). I enjoy the social aspect and often there is live music. I always take a small cooler in the car and bring home leftovers which usually mean 2-3 more meals. I avoid obvious disasters like sweet potato or regular fries, onion rings, nachos, etc and have a limit of 4 chips with salsa per meal if at a Mexican place. Since I do not eat gluten I have already avoided stuff like bread, tortillas, breaded things etc. for years and there is no issue there.

    Post Op Bra Size

Preop the largest bras I bought were 42D and 40DD. I am currently wearing a 38D on the smallest hook so band size is going down. I buy all my bras from Soma since I just love their brand. They are expensive ($40-$60 range) but they are always sending coupons and I try to buy during clearance sales. I currently have 2 that I just totally missed the window on wearing that are new with tags so I will be selling them on eBay. Right now I wear shapewear type tank tops more than actual bras since I am home most of the time. Since I still have a ways to go I expect to wind up at 36B or C which was my size for most of my normal weight years. Not planning a lift or implants.
