    Full Feeling Sign

Before surgery I never took a deep breath durning the time I was eating. I’ve found that now when I’m done my body forces me to take a deep breath . I still measure and weigh everything. But it took me awhile to figure out exactly just what my bodies new “ you are full stop eating” sign was.
  2. First don’t stress. Everyone loses at there own pace. are you exercising a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio or more daily? Wow at 3 months 1000 calories A day would have killed me. Heck I have not reached that yet and I am 10 months RNY post op. My daily average is 750 to 800 calories, protein 75 -80g, water 95 -110 oz, I exercise 2 + hours daily swimming laps, step aerobics. Yoga I don’t count because I do it just before bed a great relaxation tool I learned.

    Weight loss stats!

I had my RNY on 2/12/2019. I had already lost 160 lbs in 11 months pre op. I am now 195 lbs a little over 10 months post op. I started at HW: 474. (1/2018). SW: 314. (2/12/19). CW: 195. 12/22/19. GW: 160-170 i love this new life and work very hard everyday to keep going. I have adapted a great exercise plan I love and I eat the same thing almost every day. I don’t have many foods that agree with me anymore. I don’t have any regrets at all. In fact I would not be this successful if I had done surgery before I did.

    Help!

Definitely call your nutritionist. Don’t be embarrassed they deal with this issue all the time. It would probably be a good idea to not drink your calories. People don’t think about the extra calories that go in there drinks with all the mixers that are added. You may also not be realizing how much snacking you are doing while “social drinking”. You are talking and listening and snacking without even thinking . my councilor who I still see today had me write up a small poster to place on my fridge it says: Thinking before you open this door: Are you angry? Are you thirsty. Are you tired? Are you upset? if you answer yes to any of these questions don’t eat anything at that time. Walk away with a bottle of water and think why you said yes.. Work through the problem. it actual works. I’ve walked away from food so often after reading this poster.
  5. When I first had my RNY I only weighed when I went to my doctors office, which is what my team ask of all there post op patients until they have seen the doctor for there first follow up. Then after they encourage there post ops to only weight 1x a week on the same day and around the same time. I have adapted the 1x a week weigh in for myself. I don’t have any stress over seeing that number on my scale anymore. If I don’t lose and maintain I can deal with that. I have not had any gains in my 10 months post op.
  6. Are you on the blood thinner shot? I was on blood thinners and they took me off of them 6 days before surgery and I had to give myself blood thinner shots 5 days in a row. The no shaving rule was one of the things they told me. They gave me the shots the morning of surgery and daily until I was discharged.

    I didn't realize when I lost weight that _____

I didn’t realize when I lost weight that————— I would be cold all the time. Right now it’s in the 70s and I’ve got a long sleeve t shirt and a sweatshirt on. How many people who have not had surgery and have never taken any nutrition classes know everything about what I am and am not allowed to eat. How much my bones would stick out. How bad my butt and tailbone hurt after only setting for 10 minutes.
  8. I think they call it distilled water. My nutritionist had me try regular water at different temperatures and I found that I can’t drink ice water or cold water much it bothers me. So I drink it room temp or warm it up a little.

    NSAIDs

I asked my surgeons office the same question. I was told no pampering, and no midol due to high risk of ulcers and upset stomachs caused by the aspirin and NSIDS. I now use a combination of essential oils and Tylenol. My periods and PMS have been about the same after surgery. But I was in the beginning of menopause when I had surgery.

    Names for my new sleeve

I have 2 names because I have 2 completely different personalities for my stomach. When she is nice I call her Betty when she is upset and just grumpy I call her Beulah the Bitch. And let me tell you Beulah scares me. my husband will ask me who is with us today . It’s a inside joke when we’re out and about.
  11. Congratulations. Life happens when we are planning other things. Like others have said follow your nutritionist, and doctors orders . You will probably be placed in the high risk pregnancy category but don’t stress about it. Be safe and if you feel off no matter what follow your instincts. You know your body no one ease can tell you how you feel.

Eating for the first time did NOT go well!

My surgery was 2/12. I am in the soft food stage. I tried an egg on the first day I started soft foods ( I wanted to die). My main protein sources are ground chicken, ground turkey, fish and yogurt plus my every day 4 oz protein shake. When I started the soft food stage I was so excited to eat something not liquid and purée, but I still have days I would not mind it again. I can eat 1/4 c of what ever I’m eating. I am cleared to start eating raw fruit and veggies. I had a slice of seedless cucumber yesterday and it went well. Today I will have a cherry tomato with my lunch. Just keep trying. My nutritionist has a great rule that I have used. When you eat something and it upsets you or causes the day long “ I want to die “ feeling the next day go back to a few protein shakes and full liquids. I’ve used it now 2 times in 2 weeks it helped. Everyday is a new lesson we learn with our new stomach. RNY. 2/12/19 HW: 474 (5/16) ST: 412(4/18) SW:308 (2/19) CW: 272 (3/27)
  13. I had to put my rings in our safe months ago. I bought a cheap ring and it’s now way to big. I’ve had my wedding rings for 26 years and now have no ring to wear. When I get to my goal weight I will have my ring resized. I know i am married and the ring on my finger or in the safe isn’t going to change anything .

    No weight loss

How many calories are you getting daily? I am almost 5 weeks out I drink 2 4 oz protein shakes a day and eat very little the other 3 times I eat. I’m able to eat about 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons at each of my 3 food meals I am in the soft stage. I just went in to see my doctor and nutritionist. My nutritionist said I needed to up my calories I am to low . She wants me at 450 a day. My program doesn’t count protein shakes as part of our fluid intake for the day. I’m drinking about 62oz of water a day. Are you exercising because you didn’t mention that.

    What just happened?

You can take in more soup because it’s a slider food . It goes in and right out fairly quickly. I could only get about 1/4 of a cup of soup down .I had my RNY on 2/12/19 so I’m only a few weeks out from you. I found that cream of wheats had to be very watery. And of course because we eat so slow the cooler they get the thicker they get. If you try them again thin them out a lot more by using your milk it adds more protein, and add a little nutmeg or cinnamon for taste. That pain will remind you to eat very small bites and slowly.

    Portion Sizes

I am 3 weeks out yesterday my surgery was 2/12. I measure everything. One of the things that was repeated probably 15 times at every class for 6 months was measure everything that goes in your mouth. When I started my solid food stage yesterday I noticed that the 2oz I could get down before was a whole lot more than my new stage. I think I managed 1 ounce total and was full for hours. If your Nutritionist said 1/2 cup I would not go over that 1/2 cup. The foods on the first few weeks are slider foods that’s why you can eat more.

    A scale

I still haven’t bought a scale. I threw away that mean bitch about 10 years ago. When I started this process I weighed 412lbs on my WLC scales I weighed 308lbs the day of surgery at the hospital. On my 1 week post op I weighed 299lbs that is a number I haven’t seen in 20 years. Now I have to buy a scale before my 4 week appointment. My question is what type of scale do you use. Brand and type would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.

nutritionist FINALLY agreed to see me.

That’s crazy. As a post op they should be seeing you at every visit. I don’t care how many pre ops they have . You need the extra support from your team. My entire weight loss team is amazing I can even email on the weekend and get an answer with in 12 hours. Durning the week I can call or email and I get to speak to my NUT or she emails me back with in 3 hours.

    Yogurt

I like light and fit Greek yogurt. My program recommends this on. I just had my RNY ON 2/12 I am in the full liquid stage for another day. Yogurt with protein powder added will help you get your protein in.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I just had my surgery RNY, hernia repair and liver biopsy on 2/12. I was so sick they kept me in the hospital until late afternoon on 2/14. I thought after 6 months of classes, speaking to other surgery patients and others I was 200% prepared. O HELL NO I was not prepared for the nausea , vomiting and massive gas pain., than mother decided to visit on surgery day. Remember walking is going to be your best friend to move that gas out. You will be so happy when you start farting . It is so very overwhelming right now . But everything will work out. Just keep sipping water staying hydrated that 1st week is the most important. Try hard to get in a few shakes a day and work your way up to where your weight loss team wants you.
