Head Hunger Considered Less Legitimate?
kimberlymi replied to sillykitty's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Don’t know if this will help, I have been seeing a eating disorder specialist for a couple of months. I have to still go to a physiologist for my mental evaluation soon, but I have learned a lot. 1 of the things that have helped me a lot is the sign she had me make for my fridge. H Am I hungry ? A Am I angry ? L Am I lonely ? T am I tired ? Think First. The idea is to answer every question honestly and go from there. Hope this helps . -
I haven’t had my surgery yet, but have a couple friends in our girls group that have had surgery and didn’t tell any of us. I know because we are in the same support group. When we go out to dinner they order a side salad, dressing on the side and usually a pc of grilled chicken breast , ( they eat hardly any of it and no one says anything) for the drink 1 of them orders a mock-tail like you plan to and the other orders water and let’s it set. I chose to tell this group of friends and only a hand full of family. Have a great night out.

Purple Girl, sorry you are feeling so bad. The mint oil will help also if you rub a little on your abdomen just not on your surgery sites. You are probably stressed out to try some lavender oil on your wrist and behind your ears it helps relax you. You can also mix 4 or5 drops in a spray bottle (6 to 8 oz water) and spray it on your pillows before bed. Feel better soon

Appetite back with a vengance!
kimberlymi replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a type l diabetic and my fasting surgery are now at 70 - 80 . My higher ends are at 100 - 120 about 45 minutes to an hour after eating . I have not even had surgery yet.. I follow the diet I was given by my NUT, I exercise 5 days a week by swimming laps 2 hrs . I agree with AshAsh you are not going to go into coma with your fasting readings. If so then we would already of been there. Yes everyone is different but we have to follow our food plans. You can’t tell me you were not told want to eat after surgery no matter where you had it. There are plenty of web sites that have barbaric diets for all stages you can follow. Go back to the basics 5 to 6 protein shakes a day with either 1% milk, unsweetened coconut milk or almond milk. Don’t add anything else to it. Drink your shake over a 30 minute period and follow the 30/30 rule ( no fluids 30 minutes before and after meals). Drink water or decaf tea between meals and no sugar added to it. -
How to find a good surgeon - this is delaying my entire process :(
kimberlymi replied to Assya's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have 2 friends that had a sleeve and a bypass, I spoke with my family care doctor and went to 2 different WLC before I decided which surgeon to go with. I also spoke with my insurance company and decided I would go with a center of excellence which was not required by insurance. The hospital I will be having surgery in has a very good Bariatric area with 8 rooms that are designed for WLS patients. The nursing staff is trained in bariatric issues and has a great rep around my area. That’s how I decided where to go. -
Fourth of July Menu, What's cookin at your house?
kimberlymi replied to Creekimp13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Fresh made chicken cheddar broccoli sausage, grilled asparagus and some fruit. I found a local store in my area that will make fresh chicken sausage and add anything you want to it. They grind the chicken add the spices or what ever you want and then stuff the casings. No perspectives and a wonderful healthy protein. I don’t count the cheese or broccoli because it is so little in each sausage. They weigh in at about 3 to 4 oz each. I use the left overs for spaghetti squash bake a few days later. -
Process For Revision
kimberlymi replied to sparkling's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It’s going to depend on your insurance and WLC requirements. I am in class with a person who had a bypass 6 yrs ago and is doing a revision. Our WLC makes everyone go through 6 months of classes and a ton of test. The only one not required is a sleep study person already on a CPAP. -

Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
kimberlymi replied to Elrix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Welcomed . I understand why you are scared. I am having a RNY in a few months. When I started reading some of the post I was scared I was making the wrong choice about WLS. Then I went to my consultation armed with at least 60 questions. At least half of those were already marked off my list from what the doctor and Nut told me before it was my turn to talk. No matter what surgery you are having it is a personal choice. All I can say is research it until you can recite everything by memory. That’s what I have been doing . Good luck and keep us updated on your progress . -
Stressed and WAITING!!!!
kimberlymi replied to TaylorMade4One's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have to do the 6 months. My insurance isn’t requiring it but my WLC won’t do any WLS without the 6 months of classes 2 hours each time. It’s only 1 class a month. I am half way through and am very glad I have the 6 months to change my diet and lose as much weight as I can before surgery. I think some people need this time to start getting there head in the right place . I decided to see a counselor and get going on myself . This has helped a lot in my process . Have they given you a possible surgery date yet? That is one thing that my WLC gives us in our first class. They feel it encourages everyone to work a little harder and we aren’t left wondering when will this ever happen . I know that insurance is a crazy thing sometimes to wait on also. But the fact I have a possible date makes me feel better . I can see the light at the end of the long tunnel. Hang in there you will get your surgery and do amazing . -
I’m not sure what surgery to do?
kimberlymi replied to susunorm's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am going to do bypass for a few reasons. 1) high BMI . 2) I have a lava field already, don’t want it any worse . 3) type 1 diabetic 4) don’t want to have to go back in for a revision from sleeve to bypass . My primary doctor feels a sleeve would be better, but my surgeon feels the bypass is a much better choice for me. -
Frustr8 , you make me laugh THANK YOU. 🤪. “ beaten with a stupid stick “ I love it.

Your program should have a list of approved shakes you can have. I like to use Unjury they have shakes, chicken soup and unflavored protein powder.

If you do file for FMLA you have to be completely honest on your paperwork. Your HR should not say anything to anyone. You also have to have 50 or more people employed by your company to get FMLA. You can always say you are having stomach surgery to your boss. That is completely true.

The 1lb a day is an average weight loss that our doctors and Nuts drill into our head durning the 6 months of classes and appointments. That is no way meant to take to the bank. You had a MAJOR OPERATION your body is saying WTF did you just do to me. Take a breath and relax you will get there. You need to heal first and stay off the scales until your first appointment. My program tells us Do Not Weigh yourself any where except in there office 1x at the monthly meetings and then 2 weeks latter. We are not to weigh after surgery until our follow up because of all the negative thinking that happens after surgery. Everyone seems to do it for some reason. I don’t even own a scale anymore. And I refuse to buy one until I am at 50% of my goal.

My program would take away every straw in the world if they could. Every class we have it is brought up by the Nut and PA at least 5 times each. As for the blended protein shakes if you make them in advance and let them set it reduces the bubbles a lot. I use my small cup blender and transfer it to a shaker cup so I can still mix it up good after it sets.

I really messed up on pre diet
kimberlymi replied to Oceanlove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to ask the same question AshAsh1 asked. I am doing the same as she did. I have given up all of the stuff that we should not be eating. I need this 6 months before my surgery so I know going in I will have already done the changes in my diet and I won’t be craving all the crap. It sounds like you only got 1 psych evaluation for your pre-op approval , it also sounds like you did not tell the doctor that you are a bing eater that can’t control yourself. Yes we all make mistakes but like others have said cheating and binging are 2 very different things. You have to tell your Doctor , Nut or who ever is your case manager at the doctors office. You already know you have a fatty liver and they are not kidding about closing you up if it isn’t the size they can work with. It sounds like you are no where near ready for this entire life change . -
Just had revision from Sleeve to SIPS

Have you tried not eating the “cheating carbs”? That is what is probably causing the pain, gas, massive diarrhea. -
Advice from Nut modified pre-op diet. Questions and advice needed
kimberlymi posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a open wound that closed then re-opened, I am a type 1 diabetic and have dealt with this before. I have been to my doctor 3 times now and he has pulled me out of the pool again which I knew would happen. So I am walking and stationary biking. Walking is fine but I hate the bike . I spoke with my Nut on Friday because I have only lost 4oz in the last 2 weeks. I have lost 50 lbs in the last 3.2 months. She told me until I was able to get back in the pool which at this point will not be for at lest 30 days I have been out 1 week so far. I should do the modified pre-op diet by eating 2 to 3 protein shakes and a healthy dinner and 1 healthy protein veggie snack a day for 7 days then back to regular diet plan for 10 days and modified pre-op diet for 7 again and follow this until I am back at my 2 hr a day in the pool. Have any of you tried this? Or something like this and how was it? I know I can do this I am just frustrated right now. If this wound won’t close I will have to go to the wound doctor and the last time it took 4 months to heal. I ended up in the hospital with a god awful infection that almost killed me. My surgery is in October 2018. Thank you all in advance. -
How did you choose between VSG and Bypass?
kimberlymi replied to Greyfaery's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I had my consultation I was told by the doctor that the bypass would be better for me. A couple of reasons I am a type 1 diabetic and I have acid reflux I also have a highBMI. I know I will never get off of my insulin but I will be taking much less. I was told that my acid reflux should be almost gone. I can lose more weight with the bypass . Also I need that dumping syndrome to help me when I may think of eating something I know I should not have. My post op diet will be the same as a sleeve diet but I will be on liquids for 3 weeks not 2 I just found out from my Nut. -
Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery
kimberlymi replied to BeautifulSharifah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my diet plan after my construction on 3/7/18 I have lost 50lbs and exercise by swimming laps 2 hours a day 5 - 6 days a week. I don’t miss much of it, at times I crave carbs but I have lean healthy protein in its place. 1200 calories a day = 6. 200 calorie meals a day. Lean protein then veggies and fruit 1 time a day if I want it. I am glad I have changed 7 months early so my transition will hopefully be easier than some that wait until just before surgery. -
My husband and I went for a 3.5 hour car ride in the beautiful country area we live in. It was a great day, long talks and lots of positive thoughts and feelings. We talked about a ton of stuff and he told me he was still scared about my surgery but he now understand a whole lot more and realized I have to do it or I am going to not be around when we are old and gray in our double rocker watching the world go by. ( YES HE GETS IT). We stopped at a small cafe for a late lunch. He ordered his normal cheeseburger, fries and soda , I ordered a grilled chicken breast with no oils , added spices and asked for a vegetable melody instead of mashed potato’s and gravy. I was told that I could not have any substitutions. Ok so I asked them to just put the veggies and meat on one plate and the mashed potato’s and gravy on a second plate. OMG you would have thought I was holding a gun to a babies head. I was told sorry but that is a substitution can’t do it. OK let’s try this a different way ( I am now getting a little prickly) I ask can you just put it all on one plate and bring me a to go container? I could but your still substituting veggies , WHAT i added them as a side I said . Now she has turned to my husband and said I think you need to help your wife understand we don’t do substitutions here. Chris is so dumb struck by this comment as am I I just looked at her and said cancel the whole order we’re leaving . I went to the rest room to just wash my hands and throw some cold water on my over heated head , my hubby was still sitting at the table. I walked up to him and he handed me a paper folded in half . It was a order pad slip with a note when you want to be with a real woman give me a call she had signed it and left her number. My husband had written across it 3 times SORRY NO SUBSTATION’S. My wife is 10x times the woman you will ever be . And he signed it Very Happily Married . It made me cry very happy tears of joy. I love that man so much. I knew he was behind me every step of the way but that made me realize he isn’t behind me he is right beside me walking at the same speed as I am, and he will always be there with me.

Your NUT should have had a long conversation with you about reducing your meds per your primary care doctors orders. You should give them a call. I am insulin dependent or type 1 how ever you want to look at it. I have been on insulin forever so I will be on insulin for ever. I am allowed to lower my units as I am losing weight before my surgery. I will be on a much lower amount durning 15 day pre-op diet and after. I use this rule of thumb now 6 meals = 200 calories each very low carbs, very low sugar if any. Good luck.

anyone NOT go back to drinking coffee?
kimberlymi replied to KCgirl061's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Creekimp13 I drink mine the same way. I use the vanilla Premier Protein also. I agree just like a SB coffee. I may go back to decaf after my 6 months is up. But I hope I will just not want it anymore by that time. 👀 eye opener we will see -
Do tired of vomiting
kimberlymi replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can get a nausea medication for under your tongue that dissolved quickly and gets into your system quickly. Ask for that.
