Just got approval!! Any October sleevers out there?
kimberlymi replied to sleevemebaby7781's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am looking at October 22 if everything moves along like it should. If not the following Tuesday will be surgery. -
I can not tolerate milk anymore. My surgery isn’t until October. My NUT suggested soy milk and Bolthouse farms pea protein unsweetened milk. I have them both and would like to know about cooking with them. My husband isn’t a milk drinker but I do cook him food that requires milk. It would just go to waste after I used the small amount needed for his food. Have any of you cooked with the soy or pea protein milk? If so how did it turn out?

Baking with Protein supplements
kimberlymi replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I have also tried. I agree with orchids&dragons, the 4 recipes I tried were awful, mine seemed to fall apart and it was dense. I have even tried a recipe my NUT gave me, i followed the directions to a T and It still bad. -

Back injury and weight loss post surgery...
kimberlymi replied to irishgal21's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have chronic back pain and a chronic pinched nerve. I walk 3 days a week and swim 2 hr a day 5x a week, and started strength training a little over a month ago. I will be having my bypass in October. I have lost 70lbs in the last 5 months and my pain has gotten better but it isn’t gone. My pain management doctor said it will never go away completely . -
Overheard Staff Joking About My Body
kimberlymi replied to virginiaRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry this happened to you. Please don’t let them get away with that. I worked in health care for many years and for the most part worked with some of the most caring people I know. That was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. You need to speak with the office manager and you surgeon. When you have to see someone in that office refuse to see that PA, You are not the only patient they have done this to I am sure. -
I use it as a topical. I buy it from Edensgarden.com

I use Cannabis oil for my pain along with my rx pain med. the CBD oil works well.

Dealing with those not supportive
kimberlymi replied to pugmom234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why tell them? It is no ones business but you and your doctors. I feel that if someone can’t help you in this journey they don’t need to be a weight around your neck. I had a problem with a family member that tried to talk me out of my surgery every time I spoke to them. I finally said. My favorite flowers are carnations. She asked what you want me to send you flowers after surgery you shouldn’t be having. My response was NO that is what I want you to send to my funeral when I die from my health issues caused by my weight. That was all it took. They have not said another word about my surgery. -
My WLC gives every patient a specific diet to follow starting the first appointment. It is the diet we will be following when we start eating solid foods again. I am in the 5th month of my WLC 6 month required program. No matter what our insurance requires everyone they do WLS on has to go through this program, along with the required medical testing that can take awhile to complete.

Food Funerals?~ protein shake recommendations
kimberlymi replied to ALEandVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having a “ Say Good-Bye to my Fat Ass” party this weekend. My friends and family that support my decision are going to join me and we are going to celebrate a little different. We are only going to have 2 of my favorite dish’s, but they are all bringing food to donate to the food pantry of my choice. -
Creekimp13, OMG you just made my day. I am going to have to borrow a few of those. You are to funny.

Most Beans are counted in most programs as a protein. Sweet potato’s are counted as a starch.
-
My NUT told me when I asked about premier protein that it dose not contain the 30g of protein. I love them so she said to only count them as 20g. The carnation no sugar added is not bad.

How often do you weigh yourself?
kimberlymi replied to Tracy1978's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2 times a month on my WLC scales. We were asked when we started our journey that we only weigh in 2 times a month. I don’t even own a scale at home, I won’t even buy one. I feel that this works great for me. I will be following this schedule after surgery in October. -
The only person at your job that needs to know what is going on is your HR person. And they should not tell anyone what you have told them about your health. Tell your supervisor you are having stomach surgery and leave it at that. The truth is you will be losing weight on your 6 month pre-op diet, you are changing the way you eat and you will be exercising. So after surgery you can tell them the above.

WOMEN 400+ who’ve had or are having VSG soon?
kimberlymi replied to beingdina's topic in The Gals' Room
I started at 412. I have lost 64lbs I am still pre op until my October bypass. I was going to get the sleeve but after talking with my doctor and doing a ton of research I changed my mind. I am type 1 diabetic I will never be off of my insulin but at least take a lot less. I have a high BMI, I want to lose as much as possible and I feel I have a better chance with the RNY. I also have a volcano in my chest as it is now, I don’t need or want my acid reflux to get any worse. I only have 1 more set of blood test and my upper GI to do, along with the last 2 classes. -
I have an awful allergy to peanuts and 8 different tree nuts. Almonds are one of them that almost killed me last Christmas. I didn’t even know I was allergic to any of them until a couple bites of an Asian salad with almond slivers . I woke up in the hospital on a vent. Scary as hell. I never want to do that again. I want to make a couple of the recipes I have seen . But they all call for almond flour. Have any of you tried garbanzo bean flour or lentil flour in any if the recipes that call for almond flour? Thank you in advance.

Alternative to Almond flour?
kimberlymi replied to kimberlymi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am ok with coconut. I check labels like a crazy person. Like Missouri-Lee’s Summit said so many companies share production lines and process peanuts and other tree nuts. I have a wonderful natural food store very close to me. I will check it out. Thank you -
I switched to Greek yogurt when I decided to have surgery. It took me some time to find one I like. I use Triple Zero and Great Value fat free plain. I make a fruit dip with it and a veggie dip. I like to use the veggie dip in my shredded chicken salad instead of light mayo. It adds more protein in. I have not had my surgery yet and have had issues getting my daily protein goal in.

Like a lot have said you can’t rush them. I don’t know how long you have been waiting for your decision. If it has been more than 14 working days it wouldn’t hurt to call. Some have found out they were approved before the doctors office knew.

Plateau Advice needed!!!
kimberlymi replied to NicoleyAguayo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have not had surgery yet. I am following a 1200 calorie a day low carb, low sugar, low fat diet. Have you tried changing the type of cardio you are doing.? Have you reviewed your food diary durning a time of weight loss. My NUT gave me this advice a few weeks ago. I changed my workout and reviewed my food diary from a few months ago. I have started to lose again. -
Need advice and encouragement not ripped apart
kimberlymi replied to lisalou1968's topic in The Gals' Room
Plan your meals for the week, make a few days worth of food and measure it and store it so you can just grab it out of the fridge and eat it. I fill a gallon jug with water every morning I put a mark at the 64oz count. I know when I have hit that point in the day. I go over that by at least 40 oz or more on a daily basis now. I know where every bathroom in town is. Track your food also.there are so great apps or just use paper.even if you have eaten something you know you shouldn’t have still be honest with your tracking.
