4 days post-op. I drove myself to get a haircut and now I'm sitting at Wal-Mart waiting on new tires- going home and resting after this. Definately a little sore, but today I've only had one tylenol. After surgery, I was really sleepy, but did get up and walk as instructed. Burping, but no gas, which the doctor said was a fine start. I was on morphine push button, and amazed how good I felt. After drinking some water, then Fairlife milk (allergic to lactose) and broth, they announced me good to go and I left the next day about 5 after drain removal. Unfortunately, the dingy resident taped my drain cover to my glue incisions, and it peeled off the glue from two incisions when changing. So now I look like a marshmallow puff of gauze coverings. RME The 70 minute drive home killed the happy no pain illusion from morphine, and the first night home and next day sucked. I alternated my hydromorphone and tylenol and used my ondansetron for nausea. My doctors don't believe in protein- they just want you to drink endless milk and double milk and your water. That's a bit hard when lactose intolerant. They also said use pudding (not popsicles or jello (since they have no nutrition value). Ummm..pudding has been too thick, and quite honestly, food at all (or drink) is incredibly unappealing. So I've had some jello with a little protein powder, the bari-wise protein beef broth soup and forced down some gnc lean shake lactose-free shakes with my water. As I said, not feeling great today, but much better, up and moving, getting things done. I also ordered a binder to help from amazon. That should be here later today. Hoping that will help during sleeping?

Hello fellow September surgery gang. My name's Beth, and mygastric bypass is scheduled for September 24th. Definately getting a little nervous! I'm a week into the "blended" diet. Started off at 338 pounds, down 60 as of today. These boards have been an amazing place for information. I'm a little shy about posting, but I'm so glad to see the great community here!

Hello everyone! My friend and I are both going through the pre-surgery process, although I'm a few months ahead of her. I've had my gross taste-test and found a small hiatal hernia and some reflux, and my surgeon says I have to do the gastric bypass due to the reflux (bummer, I was hoping to do the sleeve, but oh well). Next up is the dreaded endoscopy. I'm more worried about that then the surgery right now! My friend had her first consult, and was told SHE had to do the sleeve, not the bypass, due to some pulmonary edema issues she at a gallbladder surgery. Poor girl. But, they told her (the other surgeon at hospital), that some people prefer to do bypass just to avoid endoscopy. Avoid endoscopy? What?!? This was put on my list! So my question is this- How many of you have had to have it? Is this just the norm for bypass as well? Would it be worth it to contact surgeon and ask about getting out of it, or is this something I really should just take a deep breath and deal with? Thanks!

Just had it yesterday. It's chalky and thick. Blech. But it's manageable. It was the pop-rocks stuff that I struggled with.

Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery
Lizaboo replied to BeautifulSharifah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor expects me to lose 30 pounds in 3 months. I'm 5'2 and was 331 pounds. They have us work with dieticians who set up food plans. So I have a goal of 1500 calories a day, high-protein, veggies and some fruit. They okay a few carbs, but I have really cut those out since those are a big no-no anyway. Just went in for my one month dietician check-in and had lost 20 pounds! So it can be done. I just keep reminding myself that we will have to eat better after surgery, so what is the point in fussing now?
