Hello everyone, I’m from the uk so I apologise in advance if I use measurements etc that you don’t usually use but I had a gastric sleeve on 3rd July 2019 so about 10 months or so ago, I’ve lost 45kg but have about another 15 to lose and as you can imagine it’s now very slow loss and some weeks none at all! I’m averaging around 1000/1300 cal a day and walking over 4 miles every day burning around 500cal but the scales aren’t budging at the moment. Am I eating too little? Too much? Should I cut down my activity? I’m very lost right now and could use some advice. How many cals are others on and how much activity etc? I will speak to my nutritionist etc when it’s possible to get an appointment but that could be months due to Covid-19. Thankyou in advance x

@ms.sss okay Thankyou I will look into that. I know but I’ve had months long stalls before and I worry this will be the same and the longer it goes on the more hope fades and I think is this when it stops? But Thankyou you’ve made me feel a little better.
-
@ms.sss well that sucks lol. Will a heart rate monitor tell me how many calories I’ve burnt? 🥴 last time I had a drop was the 10th May.
-
@catwoman7 oh yeah I’m aware they’re not 100% accurate but other than an app or calculator how are you meant to work it out? Your tracker is definitely wrong tho as google says 4 miles burns a lot more than that all depending on size and how fast you’re walking.. I just know that I’m walking for pretty much an hour and a half a day so I should be burning a fair amount but it’s not reflecting on the scales. So off putting.
-
@ms.sss Thankyou. I understand that so I can’t understand why I’m not losing right now? And surely I’m likely to lose even more if I’m burning an extra 500cal a day? I track my walk everyday on map my walk and I go by that so I don’t know how else I’m meant to measure it? 🤷🏼♀️ I’ll attach a screenshot. Thankyou

@Superman84 hello, thanks for your reply. Wow well done that’s amazing, men lose a lot more a lot quicker than women I’ve read, I was on around 650cal a few months ago and was told I wasn’t eating enough especially for how much I was exercising and my body would go into starvation and my metabolism would slow dramatically if I didn’t up my intake, so I’m rather confused. But I’m going to try and decrease my calories and see what happens. Thanks for the advice!

@catwoman7 that’s mental isn’t it?! It doesn’t seem much at all but to us it feels like a lot lol. Okay I shall begin doing that again and see. I wasn’t losing whilst on 1000 hence why I upped my cals because I read a lot saying I probably wasn’t eating enough and my metabolism was slowing. And that if you’re quite active you need to consume more 🤦🏼♀️ I never know what is the right thing to do but I will do what you’ve said and pray it moves again! I’ve ordered some resistant tube things to start incorporating into my exercise aswell as I’ve heard that can help so fingers crossed. Thankyou for your help.

Of course, but my mindset is like so even if I’m eating at the higher end of my diet at 1300 cal and burning 500 a day walking, on top of my BMR/TDEE I should without a doubt be in a deficit? But the scales should project that. So I’m wondering am I not eating enough? It’s hard because all Over the internet they say it’s nowhere near enough calories but when your a Bariatric patient like we are, it’s what we get programmed to do and what our bodies can cope with. So I’m just stuck in a rut. I will try and decrease the cals more and see if it makes a difference. Out of curiosity what cals were you on at 10 months post op and what exercise? I’m just trying to grasp what worked for other people (even though I know it may be different for me). I mean I walk over 4 - 4 1/2 miles a day so I would consider myself fairly active right now. Thankyou for your help I will take it all on board and play around with my cals etc. Why does it have to be so hard towards your goal 😩

@Hop_Scotch oh I can imagine lol. It looks beautiful though, certainly looks better than England! So much gang life and knife crime is rife over here these days.
-
@Hop_Scotch ah amazing! I’d love to emigrate lol. I am from Brighton about an hour from London, I’m sure you’d know it. How does Australia compare?
-
@Hop_Scotch Thankyou very much, that’s nice to hear sometimes, when I feel down like this sometimes I feel like I’ve failed but have to remind myself I haven’t. I’m fine until I hit late evening, I’m a late night person so I don’t sleep until early hours of the morning and by then I’m very peckish but know not to eat then because it wouldn’t be good. That’s what I thought as I’ve read that too low of calories for a long period can slow metabolism but I just want some kind of idea of how many calories I should be eating for the amount of exercise I’m doing. It’s all so confusing! Okay Thankyou I shall try my best and try those ideas. My next scheduled appointment which was the soonest available isn’t until august! As we have free healthcare in the uk (we are very lucky I know) but it often means long wait times etc which can be difficult. Thankyou again for helping.

@Hop_Scotch hello thanks for replying, I am a 24 year old female who is 5ft1 and currently 76kg. I am weighing out everything and using my fitness pal to count calories. I can’t lie I’m terrible with fluid intake. I don’t get nearly enough fluids which I am working on. I’m trying to consume as much healthy high protein foods and nutritious veg/fruit as much as possible. I have arthritis but am only on normal painkillers such as paracetamol for that and other than that I take vitamins and have a contraceptive implant. I use an app called map my walk made by under armour so I believe it’s trustworthy and accurate but then again I could be being fooled!! 😂🤦🏼♀️

Hello everyone, I had gastric sleeve surgery on the 3rd July 2019, my starting weight was 120kg/265lb and is now 83.5kg/184lb which don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with but at 5ft1 my ‘goal weight’ is around 134lb which seems so far away and impossible for me right now. Since October I’ve only lost 7kg and for the past month or so it hasn’t moved at all, just the same lb up and down. Is this it for me? Has anyone experience it stopping this early? Thankyou x

@sosewsue61 I hope so as it’s really getting me down now I have arthritis etc so exercise is hard for me but I’ve been trying hard lately and trying to do daily walks of around 8k steps etc and consuming around 1000cal but still nothing and it’s been like this for a couple of months now if not longer. I’m just worried as I’ve lost 62% that this is it :( one thing I’m not good with is fluids. I don’t drink much at all really, does that actually make a difference? I see it everywhere and of course you need to be hydrated but does it effect weight loss? Thankyou x -

@greentealael I have had many stalls along the way but never this long it’s worrying me so much! Thankyou I will do, as I’m in the UK and rely on free healthcare I cannot get an appointment with my NUT any sooner than 6th feb so I can only pray that it moves before then or if not that she can give me some good answers.. thankyou x -

That’s good because neither am I lol. Oh wow I’m on around 1000 and I thought that might be too high but maybe not? I see. I try to take walks etc as much as I can but I’m quite limited as I have bad arthritis etc so I’m worried that’s what’s holding me back. I can only hope things move again soon. -

6mpo weight loss stopped?!
tjgillman replied to tjgillman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow you’re doing exceptionally well then to only have 10kgs left?! I’m 6 months post op now so I feel like I should have lost more :( I never did the shakes thing as I’m in the UK and we do it differently. Purées for 4 weeks, soft foods for another 4 then normal solids after that. Oh god see I was on that amount of cals and stalled so my dietician/nutritionist told me I can’t be having enough and to up it and everyone online said I should be having 1000cal so that’s what I’ve been doing.. I’ve been going back down to 800 aswell to see but nothing is shifting. I find getting in a lot of protein quite difficult, maybe that’s what’s doing it. No I’m not I’m in England and unfortunately as it’s free healthcare (although I’m very very grateful) it’s a bit harder to get appointments quickly etc. I have my next one on the 6th feb so hopefully they give me some answers and not tell me my body is done losing lol as last time she told me most people stop losing at 9 months ish 😩 thankyou for replying x -

@superman84 ahh it sucks doesn’t it :( you’re doing so well and atleast it’s only 10kgs for you! Still a lot but not as much as the 22.8kg I’ve got left 😂😩 it’s getting me down so much. Yeah I know that but the trouble is I don’t know what calories I’m meant to be at or anything 🤷🏼♀️ I don’t get many appointments with my nutritionist etc and when I do she says she doesn’t go by cals so that’s not helpful lol
