Duodenal switch 8 weeks post op not hungry...ughh
Diva302 replied to Glamgirl's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Glad to see I’m not alone, I have no desire for food, and when I think I am I take a bite and it’s a turnoff, thank God for shakes, Premier shakes are a lifesaver at 30grams each, and I bought unflavored protein powder and add it to smoothies, for an attempt to get fruits and veggies in, I’m trying to be creative....this too shall pass... -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Diva302 replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no! What type of complications did you have, if you don’t mind me asking? Glad your home. Congrats on the weight loss! I had a leak, at the anastomoses of esophagus and duodenum, everything I sipped or swallowed went into the abdominal cavity and I had to have a second surgery 3 days later to washout the abdomen and fix the leak, an exploratory laparotomy, and ended with 5 drains, 2 which drained abscesses and a NG tube, antibiotics for the infections... I did the research and understood DS may have great results at weight loss, but higher % of complications compared to other WLS...like the loose stools and gas..I’m still on antibiotics but feeing better each day! -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

Postop day 17, spent 2 weeks in hospital due to complications...home sweet home down 12 pounds in 4 days!! -
I had DS surgery June 12 and felt slight soreness, nothing unusual, felt ready to 24 hours laterPOD 1...then it hit with a ton of bricks, POD 2, excruciating pain, high heart rate and inability to walk.. had a cat scan it was negative for leak... POD3my surgeon wasn’t convinced and Wanted too keep me to see how I was feeling wasn’t quite up to par but pain controlled still walking, every 3 hours slow but steady..POD4 woke up with fever103.9 and heart in 120’s. Plan was exploratory lap 2 hours later, came out of OR with 3 drains and a NGT to decompress stomach and a PCA..for pain control, he found a teeny tiny leak, restitched it and covered with muscle. Washed the cavity hence the drains. Now on antibiotics and fluids...And another week here in the hospital. The upside I have a great team of nurses and docs at a nationally accredited metabolic and Bariatric center... I’m getting awesome care. I read so much research studies and articles prior to the DS I knew the switch has more complications but greater results! The benefits outweigh the risks .... peace and live my bench buddies !

3 months ago this was a random thought, revision surgery! Best thought I ever had, I’m ready for 7:45 6/12...I’ve ordered the vitamin patches, tomorrow will stock up on protein beverages, have gained so much insight from others on this forum and the Facebook page...working tomorrow till 3am then to the hospital at 5:45. I’ve lost weight since the process started, took pics and measurements today, I’m fired up and ready to go! If I have any surgery twins let’s keep in touch and inspire and motivate each other!

Will do!! I have an appt for labs in August may go sooner if I’m feeling sluggish.. I’ve read reviews from DS patients that didn’t have an issue.. so I’ll just have to find another source to cover everything... out local hospital is Bariatric accredited Ans sells Bariatric vitamins and foods in-house so that will bey go to !! Thanks for the heads up!! I have a month supply and will use accordingly and go from there

When I was sleeved and had horrible nausea so I opted out of narcotic pain med and was given a liquid Tylenol, this week with the DS it was Tylenol ES and Toradol, until I ran into complications and was given stronger meds..

Thank you! I’m a ER/Trauma RN who has totally complied with the walking every 3 hours even though I had pain and the sips. The docs, residents and nurses say I look to good to have gone thru so much . (Have my own pjs, and put my earrings and Fitbit back on) Today I feel great my pain is there I try to breath through it...but it’s lessening and I find making a Note of what to avoid helps a lot ,, thx again for your well wishes

Surprised to have gained in hospital on clears and IV fluids I’m up 15 pounds PLUS GAS TOO...that’s still trapped... Awesome successful journey! Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
Diva302 replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told one person, a good friend at work, and only told her because when I went to my psych appt she strongly suggested to tell at least one person.. I decided I’m not going to tell anyone this time around, I spread the word the first time with the sleeve and had weight regain, and never heard the end of it from my mom who had RNY 15 years ago and has kept off 175 pounds..I opted for the duodenal switch and should be scheduled for surgery next week at my clearance appt... -

Greetings, I am getting the DS and ohh so excited, I had the sleeve and had weight gain now I am close to my original starting weight, I started the process of DS a few months ago with the intention of sleeve revision or gastric bypass, and my surgeon discussed my options and DS it is! So good people of this forum, I am seeking advice, pearls of wisdom, any info you care to share. I am an RN and have researched all the data, pros and cons, now I want to listen to those who have experienced the surgery and their story. Thanks a million
