    Do Compliments Make You Uncomfortable?

I'm okay with a compliment here and there, but I don't like when people go on and on about my weight loss. There are some people that I see regularly and they do just that; they go on and on about how different I look, etc... That's a bit much for me. But I do enjoy just a quick compliment, then we can move on lol!

    Going home!

That's awesome! I walked as soon as I got to my room too. It's just procedure with my surgeon for sleeve patients to stay one night in the hospital. If I could have gone home sooner, I would have though. Congrats!

    Preop not losing

To be in ketosis, don't you have be consuming less than 20g of carbs per day? I'm not sure, which is why I'm asking. If you're consuming 70g of carbs per day, that would be why you aren't in ketosis, I would think. It doesn't mean that your liver isn't shrinking though. I didn't have to do a very long pre-op diet. I was only on liquids for 2 days prior to surgery, and my surgeon said that my liver shrunk a good deal.

    I NEED SAVORY!!!

There is unflavored protein out there. Have you tried that?

How did your family and friends react?

I told everyone that I see on a regular basis, because they would be seeing me and see a big change. My grandma was nervous for me, but she wasn't critical. Everyone else was very supportive. If anyone asks how I've lost so much weight, I tell them about the surgery too. I'm not embarrassed that I've had the surgery, and I really don't care what people think. I know that I'm healthier and happier than I was before, and that's what matters.
  6. @Frustr8 that's one thing that you and I don't have in common, I haven't yet experienced any excess emotions after surgery. I'm just so much happier than I was before, because I don't feel like I have to hide, and I don't feel like I'm out of place, no matter where I go. I feel like I fit in the world now. I don't know. This surgery is so strange in that it effects everyone so differently!

    Still considering- have some questions

I couldn't have coffee right away after surgery, but now I drink a cold brew coffee everyday. I also eat fruits and veggies; no where near what you eat now, because my smaller belly won't allow it, but I do eat them. I also drink alcohol occasionally, again, not much and not right away, but I can. I haven't really had to give up much after having the sleeve. If I want a piece of chocolate, for instance, I have it, but just a small amount, and I'm sure to track it. It's all about moderation, and the sleeve helps with that.

    Beer

    Understood!

    2 days post op

It's so weird how our bodies react differently to this surgery. I was able to drink water fine; it did give me the hiccups every time I drank it in the first week or so, but I was able to keep everything down. Thankfully, the hiccuping doesn't happen much anymore. Good thing you've got those popsicles to get yourself some liquids! Best of luck with your journey!

    Beer

No. I don't think it would...not that soon. I had my first drink about 6 months after, and it was fine, but it was water, vodka, and Mio. I've only had 1 beer since surgery, and I was like 8 months out; it was also fine. I would definitely wait if I were you.

How is water going for people?

Same for me. My program is also liquids, not necessarily just water. Like, if I even have a sugar free jello, that counts as 2 ounces. I try to get 90oz a day; didn't make it yesterday though...oops

This preop diet is killing me

Try a different protein shake. There are A LOT of options. I can't drink the Premier Protein shakes, as they are too thick and too sweet for me, but I enjoy the Isopure Zero/Low Carb protein. Try something different.

How is water going for people?

Oh, my. You really need to up that water intake. My goal is 90oz a day, and I'm usually able to hit it. I was getting my 64oz a day by a week post op, so it's doable. Add water flavoring to it if you need to, but you've really got to get more water.

    Macro targets

I personally aim for 100g of protein a day, and I try to keep my carbs under 40g. The app that I use, MyPlate, does keep track of my fat, but I don't have a goal that I'm trying to hit.

    Another Weird question

I would say just focus on getting your water in. That'll help. A lot of people experience constipation right after surgery; I was the opposite for some reason though; I had diarrhea for like 5 days after.

    Illinois Aetna (BMI/Approval)

I don't have Aetna, but I was always under the impression that you have to be over a 40 BMI at the initial visit to qualify. Then, of course, you're going to start losing weight as you work the program. I would call your insurance company and verify it with them. PAs and Drs don't always know the insurance side of things.

    800 Calories Per Day

Yeah, I do. Not a ton, but I do.
  18. FancyChristine15

    Lowkey Freaking Out

Maybe you should call them and just fess up. I wouldn't want to spend all that money on flights for them to not be able to do it.
  19. FancyChristine15

    800 Calories Per Day

I'm almost 9 months out, and I would be hungry on only 800 calories a day. I consume about 1300 calories a day. If you include what I burn in a day, then I guess I get about 800, but I actually consume 1300. I would be so hungry if I only ate 800. That doesn't seem like enough to me.
  20. I started this journey having 288 pounds to lose, and, as of today's weigh in, I now have less than 100 pounds to lose to get to goal! I'm very happy!

    Please tell me your progress

Started at 463 Sleeved on 3/20/18 and weighed 405 at surgery Weighed 273.8 at today's weigh in

    Lunch time!

I had a smallish piece of grilled chicken with a slice of swiss cheese on it and some light mayo on it. I had to have the mayo, cause the chicken was really dry; it was purchased at the cafeteria where I work.
  23. That stinks. Try looking at it as that gives you more time to lose some weight pre-op. I wish that I would have been more focused on my goals pre-op and lost more weight then.
  24. FancyChristine15

Officially have less than 100 pounds left to lose!

@Frustr8 sorry to hear that you're going through all of that! I hate that for you. Let's hope/pray that you and Catherine the Catheter can part ways at the end of the year.

    Anxiety

I don't think that it's irrational to be nervous about a major surgery. I was a little nervous, but I was more nervous to stay as large as I was. The risks were worth the reward for me. I would do in again in a heartbeat if I had to. You'll be fine.
