    Post Op BM

I actually had diarrhea the first few days after surgery, so I didn't have that issue. I have seen a lot of people posting on this site that it took them a while to have their first BM after surgery though. I wouldn't worry about it, if I were you.

    New Here

    Best of luck to you!
  4. I'm still a newbie. I'm only 6 weeks post-op. I haven't had any adverse reactions so far, other than my iron and vitamin d being low, but I had that issue before surgery, and nausea; the nausea is new, and it doesn't happen all the time. My advice to you would be to follow your doctor's plan. Get your protein in. Get your water in. There will be days that you don't want to, but you need to make yourself. You've got this!

    My Surgery was 4/8/18

From what I've heard, it's difficult to lose weight if you don't get your protein in. Most doctors recommend at least 60g per day. My doctor actually wants me to get in 80g per day. I think it's cause I'm larger than most. It's not super easy to do, BUT if I eat high protein foods and I drink 2 protein shakes a day, I get it every time. Water is SUPER important. I know that you know this. It can be dangerous for you if you don't get enough water in per day. You'll be at risk of dehydration. Drink that water. You can totally do it!

    question.

There are days that I DO NOT want to drink. I make myself drink 64oz everyday though. I work in a hospital, but I don't want to be a patient here. It's a struggle, but you can do it. Protein shakes count in those 64oz.

    I wish I never had this done...help!

I cannot relate to what you are going through, but I do sympathize with you. I’m so sorry that you are going through so much. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  8. I'm 5 weeks post op, and I still drink 2 protein shakes a day to ensure that I get my 80+ grams of protein a day.

Post op experiences & favorite easy foods

I am a little over 5 weeks post op. The absolute worst part for me was the gas that is left in your stomach/chest area after the surgery. I know that they have to do it that way so that they can do it laparoscopically, but it's a pain. My best advice is to get up and walk as soon as you can after the surgery. I was walking like an hour after getting into my room. Walking helps get rid of those gas pains faster. As far as eating, I was on liquids for 2 weeks following surgery, so I drank my protein, water, sugar free/non-carbonated things, and that was about it. Well, also get some sugar free popsicles...they are a life saver! After the first 2 weeks, I went to pureed foods. I never did actually puree anything though. I just ate canned or pouched tuna that's already been shredded up, chicken that's been shredded, an egg, etc... Just things that are easy on the stomach. Be sure to chew it up really well so that it doesn't hurt your stomach. Don't drink water 30 min to an hour before or after meals. You'll be surprised by how little you eat. I'm eating 2oz of ham and 1 reduced fat cheese stick right now, and that's my lunch, and that'll be good. I can still only eat 1 to 1 1/2 eggs at a time; 2 is WAY too much. Don't be nervous! You've got this!

    Pooping is stressful!

Thankfully, I haven't had many issues in this area since the surgery. If I have a BM that's a little harder than usual though, I use my Squatty Potty. That thing really works!

    Pills after surgery

I take multiple pills a day, and I haven't had any problems!

    Help with food

So, I’m single, and I don’t like to cook. What in the world should I eat? I’ve been eating tuna with light mayo, a scrambled egg, cottage cheese; things like that, but that gets old quickly. I thought about and bought some healthy choice meals, but those have sodium and carbs. I just don’t know what to do.

Day 2 Post Op horrible gas pains !

Be sure that you're eating slowly. When you drink, try not to suck in; you almost need to pour the water in your mouth. I had the hiccups every time I drank the first and second days, but, once I started pouring the water in, that helped.

    March 2018 sleevers

I was sleeved on 3/20/18. I only weigh once a week or I'll go crazy. I've lost 20 pounds post-op as of Monday. I haven't stalled yet. I'm not losing as much as I'd like though. I have A LOT to lose though. I definitely shouldn't complain about 20 pounds in a month. My doctor told me that she wants me to get 80g of protein a day. I definitely can't eat that much, so I'm still having to do 2 Premiere protein shakes a day, then I get the other 20 with food.

Day 2 Post Op horrible gas pains !

I just had my surgery last month, and let me tell you, the gas pains were the worst part of it. It took 3-4 days for it to go away. Just hang in there. Burp and fart as much as possible!

    Carbonated water

I was told no carbonated drinks ever again, even if they're flat, because it can stretch your new stomach.

    Airport security issues ?

I have to get patted down every time I fly. I have no idea what the problem is. This was before I had had any abdominal surgeries too. I'm also always randomly selected to have my hands wiped. IDK why.

    Telling family about surgery?

Just tell them the reasons that you're wanting the surgery. That'll go a long way. My mom didn't love the idea at first, but she got used to it in time; I'm sure your mom will too.

Weird that no one at work has commented on my weight-loss..

You can definitely tell! You look great! I've lost 80 pounds since I started losing weight before the surgery, and the only thing that people have commented on is my face. I know I haven't lost 80 pounds in just my face lol

    Goal weight vs Comfortable size

For my BMI to be "normal", I would need to get down to 174. My goal is 199 though. I want to see a 1 at the beginning of my weight. I haven't seen that since I was a young teen. If I lose more, then that's great!

    Poll: What is your goal?

I'm 5'10" and I started at 464. I'm currently at 385. I would LOVE for my weight to start with a 1, one of these days. I've got a long way to go!
