Pre surgery 6 mth required diet
cristobal replied to jennifer47's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it has to be with the surgeon. But if you have doubts, check with your insurance. A licensed dietician should be in there with your progress. Sent from my F8131 using BariatricPal mobile app -

First thing you ate when you were cleared for normal food
cristobal replied to mrblond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been cleared for "stage 4" foods. Whole soft meats, semisoft cheese and increased variety of cooked veggies. I had a poached egg today for breakfast and lean ham for lunch. Will try broccoli and cheese tonight. Sent from my F8131 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Congrats on the loss. I'm 6'3" and before my surgery date I was at 454. Then I went down to 432 after the 2 week presurgery diet. 7 weeks after surgery I'm down to 388. After seeing your one year anniversary pics, it certainly has made me reassured the pounds will come off with hard work, like I've been doing myself this whole time. Thanks for sharing! I had difficulty sleeping only because of my hernia removal and fear of "busting open". I have back problems and was also afraid to sleep on my back. Just make sure you're taking the pain medicine at least an hour before you sleep so it takes affect for you to get comfortable. The recliner makes sense if you have one. But that pain medication really is important before. I personally found myself sleeping better and longer once it kicked in. Good luck, it's still a recent injury.

Struggling The Last Couple Days
cristobal replied to LoLo130's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've also had problems, just make sure to take antinausea pill before all other pills. Take one pill at a time if you haven't already done so. Also, make sure you take your protein shake first. It might sound childish, but if it's a taste problem, just hold nose and swallow. I find myself brushing my teeth to be better right afterwards to avoid an aftertaste. Sugar free jello and pops are allowable. Take one right before you down the second shake. It helps. Then brush again. Have broth. I made a fake Campbell's vegetable soup that tastes the same as the real thing. Just use a cup of vegetable broth and drop half a beef boullion. Microwave 3 minutes and stir. Add water as needed to bring down saltiness. -
Has anyone experienced leakage after surgery?
cristobal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think I'm leaking inside and I have followed the diet to a T since my surgery last Thursday. But the one big thing I'm worried about is leakage and infection. I just got a bit worried because most books and my doc said, leakage happens over time. I have just been able to drink more liquids. As though my stomach is actually healing. I'm still drinking sips. No gulps or big swallows. I'm just a little paranoid I guess. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow and sees what he thinks. Thanks in advance for help or pointers or comments. -

Anyone else find it difficult with liver shrinking diet with their surgeries?
cristobal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my mind is messing with me knowing that'll it be the last time probably that i'll probably never be able to eat all my fav foods. im sticking to it! but mentally it's draining on me. -
hello. i have been sampling many protein shakes. being a guy who is undergoing surgery soon, flavor is very important. if i cant drink something while i recuperate, then how do i keep faithful to the requirements of surgery? im not trying to sell you on something for a company. but im dropping this link. its very high in protein because im a former athlete at 6'3" and i dont want to lose all muscle because of the work i do. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002UNK7LM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on the premier protein. i have the vanilla flavored. it tastes horrible by itself. my mother in law who also had the surgery drinks it with yogurt. i drink it with a packet of agave sugar. and it tastes like a vanilla shake from mcdonalds. i recommend it for diets under this stipulation. it does not taste good by itself. you can certainly drink the premade shakes but financially its cheaper to buy the powder on amazon and it comes in a big size. i have tried fitcrunch as well. its expensive for the size but the taste is pretty good. a little sweet for my taste though. these are my opinions on products. good luck!

I'm just looking for feedback possibly from people who've had gastric bypass that are taller than 6'1". The reason why I am looking for info is because my surgeon said in my consultation that being 6'3" might have a higher chance of a complication when trying to attach the small intestine and stretching it to the stomach as per gastric bypass surgery. He suggested I think about this procedure or the gastric sleeve. The sleeve being better for my height as it usually results in less complications because they really dont do anything with small intestine. so im leaning towards the sleeve though gastric bypass has faster results... i would greatly appreciate any feedback from tall men who've had either the gastric bypass or sleeve. results would be greatly appreciated as well. i have to make a decision in a couple of months and i want to get as much info before then. thank you much in advance for all your help. Too Tall For a Gastric Bypass?
cristobal replied to cristobal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I will be sitting in on my wife's surgeon consultation as well. She wants to go to my mother in law's dr with a different hospital. I'll try and get his opinion on my situation. This particular surgeon is different than the prior. The previous surgeon just said, call us when I was finished with my "check off" list. I think that's why I wasn't approved before. I only met him twice. At the consultation and then at my endoscopy. I had questions but he was really selling me on the gastric bypass. He literally was like it's fast, quick and you'll lose weight healthily. It was like an advertisement. With my current surgeon, we talked for an hour of the ifs and what's. He's the medical director and only surgeon at my hospital qualified for this surgery with lots of experience. But I never felt rushed even though I know he's a busy guy. So I'm going with him. He asked me to check out for more info and testimonials of patients with the sleeve on my own here as well on the website. I've been reading like crazy this topics on sleeve surgery an stuff. Thank goodness this place was here. I've got some time to collect info. Thanks. -
Too Tall For a Gastric Bypass?
cristobal replied to cristobal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, my initial operation procedure was to get the gastric bypass because the surgeon at the time said it was the best for my weight. This was 4 years ago. Unfortunately the way the program was run I was denied because of insurance errors. I jumped off the bandwagon and stopped all steps to clearing the OK for surgery. After my recent injury, I decided to Kickstart the surgery again. This time I went in with the same mentality as before except my Dr was now very thorough in his way of working. He asked me questions and I also did as well as I could think of. But he said that because of my height at 6'3" he would have to stretch the intestine up a little higher than most of his patients, which had a higher risk of leakage after surgery. He said that even though the risk of surgery is almost all the same in most cases, this was one of the things other surgeons have seen in other patients doing the gastric bypass who are tall that had a problem with leakage. He suggests I think about sleeve only because of this minor risk. The risks are always low but lower if I go with this. Unfortunately I can't find much feedback from other people who have had a sleeve surgery. I'm still looking for more answers. I appreciate all responses. Thanks...
