When "Family" doesn't understand
psychnurse1 replied to Ernie D's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately there are those with mental illness that stay dependent and leech the ones around them because they just don’t try to help themselves and use the illness as an excuse. This is often the hardest on those closest to them. NAMI. https://www.nami.org/find-support/nami-programs/nami-family-support-group. Is a great support for family. You are going to have to set some boundaries , especially at this part of your journey. Maybe they can help you with suggestions for your situation. Melissa ( btw I’m a mental health inpatient nurse) -
My head hunger happens at night... can’t wait till I can have fresh veggies so I can munch on that instead ... most of the day I eat to schedule

3 Weeks post-op. My Story
psychnurse1 replied to ScoutCR's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We are almost surgery twins ... I had my surgery on the 26th.... I’m a nurse and went back to work just under two weeks. My blood pressure has already removed ( actually did so before surgery ). No arthritis pain and more energy. I’ve had no trouble getting g liquids or soft foods down. I’ve lost 33lbs so far. 20 was presugery on the two week liquid. I’m almost back to weight I was before husband died last May. Gained so much weight in last year. -

Almost quit on Day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet
psychnurse1 replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have several protein shakes but my go to is the premier... since surgery I’ve been mixing get the Carmel with some coffee and sip on it until gone ....that’s half my protein for the day down . I’m usually done by 10 am. I made protein pudding from the premier as well so it helps me get the rest of my protein in as well. My calories are about 600 and I need to get them to goal of around 800. I had trouble with the taste of some of the proteins I bought before surgery now... I think my tastes have changed a bit -

You’ll do great! The staff there at the hospital was great and there was a cna who called herself “sunshine” that came in singing. I didn’t have to ask for anything for nausea or pain... they were already given scheduled Tylenol. Don’t forget to walk it’s great for gas pain. The thing about smaller hospitals is it just seems so much more personable. HW 285 SW 261 on 4/26 CW 256 -
Almost quit on Day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet

Optifast is medically supervised diet...... you can lose 50lbs in 6 months per their info. You have to buy it from a medical professional. Or I have noticed it on eBay. I didn’t think they were bad I did Water them down by blending with ice and coffee . I really liked the Tomato and the chicken soup... they were a nice savory option. Of the bars I only like the Peanut Butter bar -

Yes it’s Baritastic ... they have a very active Facebook as well. In their store I bought some powdered soups that are less calories than optifast and are good

Lap band to bypass... I need assurance this won’t be another failure
psychnurse1 replied to swimmer0302's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can tell you that even just a week out of surgery I feel better than I did with lap band. In a month with pre op diet and 9 days pre op I have lost 26lbs. I lost 50lb with the band back in 2006. I suffered the feelings of failure... I told everyone about the band...so when I didn’t loose more weight I was embarrassed... I dieted but the healthy food would not stay down. I got to the point I avoided social gatherings because of fear of eating something that got stuck. I even had trouble with all the fluid out of band. I went to two different Lapband drs who said my band was fine....it was not. I self paid for th sleeve because my insurance won’t cover a second weight loss surgery. -

psychnurse1 replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery with them on april26th. I made bone broth ahead of time and froze it into ice cubes.... I add it to the powdered protein soups for extra protein. I also found some small two oz condiment containers with lids that I can put protein powders in for on the go. I recommend a body pillow and extra pillows for first week... or a recliner. I made a travel bag in a pouch with those collapsible measuring cups a baby spoon, a cocktail fork, a couple water flavor pkgs, a 2 oz container of protein powder. -
