Hernia surgery with Lap band surgery questions
alsorl replied to Startingover!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had both done last month, (hernia was discovered during surgery)and I don't think it made a bit of difference. I felt pretty good, and with no pain. I will say this, it's been 4wks since my surgery and I have not had any heartburn. (which I used to have all the time) -
i didn't have to drive myself home, but I was so nauseated from the drive and weak from the surgery. I could hardly hold my head up.I wouldn't chance it.

Hi Karen: I had my surgery on May 5th and have just been recently experiencing the same type of back pain too. I never had back pain before, I don't have it all the time, it comes and goes.Is your like that?

Hiatal hernia repair with Lap Band
alsorl replied to donnaw725's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my banding on May 5th and while they were doing that they found a very large hiatel hernia. They repaired it and i am doing fine. -
I was banded on May 5th and everyday I feel better and better, except for the fact that I'm exhausted. I just feel so wiped out, with a bit of shortness of breath. I have had very little gas pains and I can sleep very well. I am eating blended soups, protein drinks, jello and yogurt. I can eat these just fine but I can't eat much at one time. I had requested one week off from work but honestly I don't know that I will have the energy to go back on Monday. Does anyone else feel "wiped out"?

7 days Post Op - Feel out of Breath!
alsorl replied to trinity2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on monday May 5th, and I feel weak and winded. It does seem to get better every day. -
Hi there. I have been doing my research on this site since January. I decided to schedule an appt with the surgeon in Feb, had my psych eval and sleep study in March and finally was approved. My primary ins. United Healthcare denied the request because there is an exclusion in the contract, but.. my secondary, Tricare Prime came through for me like I expected they would. I have an appt next week for my second visit with the surgeon, and at that time we will set a surgery date.

Kathy: I just wanted you to know that I'm doing very well today. I never got gas pains and I haven't even needed to take any pain meds for the sore muscle pain I am experiencing. I do need help every once in a while to get out of bed, or the tub but otherwise these simple actions are getting easier. The incisions are very small. I also wanted to let you know that I dreaded the Heparin injections that they give you to prevent blood clots (they inject you in the abdomen) but all three were painless because they are given subcutaneous not intramuscular. I'm already eating cream of wheat, pudding and cream soups, so i don't feel hungry at all. I hope everything goes this easy for you too.

wow Kathy: I'm really happy for you. I was banded yesterday. everything went well except that my surgeon found a very large hiatel hernia while he was in there, so he went ahead and repaired it and showed me the pics that he took. I had to spend the night in the hospital but otherwise I really don't have much pain. I liken the pain to the pain you get when you do alot of sit-ups. more of a soreness. anyway I'm glad it's over. I am on to a skinnier me. Kathy, let us know when you get a surgery date.

Hi Kathy: Any word yet on your approval from ins.?

I have read that with gastric bypass surgeries hair loss is common because of nutritional deficits. Is it also common with the band? I haven't come across any posts about this, or did I miis them?

Thanks for the reply SherryW. I have thin hair as it is, so I'll be sure to eat the right amount of protein.

I was DENIED by Tricare...Has anyone every appealed?
alsorl replied to Startingover!'s topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Tricare Prime too and was approved last week. I believe you must be 100 lbs overweight with one or two co-morbidities or 200lbs overweight with no co-morbidities.Another patient in the surgeons waiting room yesterday also has Tricare Prime and was approved too. From my research on this site, Tricare is one of the easiest and fastest insurance to get approvals from. Mine was approved within hours.Do you meet their criteria? -
I hope you hear good news soon. The waiting for approval is very stressful.

Any Others in Arizona Just Getting Started?
alsorl replied to yellowroseaz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi. I'm also from Az (Tucson) I was approved last week and will be banded on May 5th. I started the process in late Feb with a surgery consult, then went for a sleep study and had the psych eval in March, after that I was approved on April 11, had my preop visit with surgeon on 04/17 and the second half of my sleep study last night 4/18 ( I have sleep apnea) and the surgeon will not preform the surgery unless I take my CPAP machine with me to the hospital. He has arranged for me to have all my preop testing at the hospital the day of my surgery and he does not require a preop diet. I am very excited. I too hope to lose 90-100lbs. -

alsorl replied to azsungirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had asked you what the preop diet consists of because I thought that I would have to do the same but my surgeon states that he doesn't require it. He says that he wants me to be well nourished at the time of surgery and if I went on a liquid diet beforehand it stresses the body out. Interesting huh? I'm also from Az. (Tucson) -
Hey! I just got my surgery date scheduled today too, and it's also set for May 5th. Surgeon also said that I don't have to do the pre-op diet. I'm very excited. I won't argue with that. Good luck to you!

I have a desk job and I'm not sure how much time that I will need to take off after surgery. Will I need to take more than one week?

Hi Everyone: This is my first post too. I did quite a bit of research on this site, and have learned alot. I have just been approved from Tricare Prime. I have my 2nd visit with the surgeon next week, from there we will set the surgery date. I figured since I know now that I will be banded I might as well join in.
