Was there a particular food you were happy to eat (in moderation of course) again when you finished the liquid and soft food stages? Mine were hot sauce and green chiles, LOL!!
-
How important was it for you to be mentally prepared for bariatric surgery as well as physically prepared?
-
I completely agree. Complete behavioral change is in order with this surgery.

Not eating soft foods yet! Exhausted and can’t get all protein in
MermaidInAZ replied to amartinez8853's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The protein shakes do get old the first week, but they do help. Each doctor is different in their post-op instructions so I'm not sure how long you have to be on liquids. I know when I started with soft foods, cottage cheese and high-protein yogurt helped me get my protein. Check the protein shake cook book at bariatricfoodie.com, too. All the best to you! -
How long did it take for your incision pain to stop?
MermaidInAZ replied to baribetty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was lucky because I didn't have any pain in any of my incisions. Could it be the waistline on your clothes? I hope you feel better! -
I've not gone to restaurants yet, but am going tomorrow night. I understand Olive Garden has great menu items for sleevers (I got that from bariatricfoodie.com). But it's good to know that Texas Road House has menu items that would go well - and I do love leftovers!
-
I haven't tried that yet but it sounds great!!
-
Small portions, chew the food at least 30 times, take your time, and stop when your pouch feels full but not stuffed. Most importantly, follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. When is your surgery or have you had it already?

I've heard a lot of people say their taste has changed, but mine hasn't.

I was just like that when I ate my first scrambled egg!

YAAAYYY!! Congratulations and all the best to you!

Getting sleeved on 5/03/18
MermaidInAZ replied to HarleyMan82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Glad to hear you came out of surgery well! Congratulations! How's it going so far? -
I didn't take any pain meds during my 2-week recovery. I was cleared to drive after my recovery though. Drove me crazy...(see what I did there?)

I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time all around, but most of all for your husband's lack of support. You have to remember you're doing this for yourself; not anyone else. There are, and will be, people who want to discourage you but you just have to keep on going because it is about you, your health, and your happiness. I really hope the new doctor follows through. Let us know how it went.

so happy to be in the kitchen & cooking again
MermaidInAZ replied to brookie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love to cook! But I hadn't done it since before my surgery. I finally cooked the other day, but gave most of it to my family LOL! I'd be up for a recipe exchange without pictures. -
I was like clockwork before my 28 Feb surgery. Two months and counting and no period either. Going to call my GYN on Monday to make an appointment to see what's going on. I turned 50 in Feb so maybe it is menopause.

I don't think it's lying - more like selective information sharing. I have also kept my surgery private and this Saturday am going to a birthday dinner so I'm wondering what I'm going to say. People have noticed my weight loss and have asked. I just say that sometimes it takes a medical scare to set things right. You are under no obligation to explain yourself if you don't want to. "No" is a full sentence that requires no further explanation.

Periods after gastric sleeve
MermaidInAZ replied to JeezLouise91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have the opposite - no period for two months. I'm dreading its return though! -
Airport security issues ?
MermaidInAZ replied to Wolfgirl78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you gone to your doctor to see exactly what it is? I'm flying in October so I'll let you know if my scan throws any alerts. Those images are all in grey tones so it's not like they are seeing your actual body. I went through one, saw my image and asked for a 8X10 glossy *smirk* TSA lady just looked at me LMAO!! -
I put 180 for my goal weight because I liked the ticker, LOL! But my main goal is to FEEL healthier, stronger, agile, and flexible. I want to walk a flight of steps without huffing and puffing. I want to sit comfortably at a stadium or in an airplane (without having to ask for a belt extender). I want to place my hands flat on the floor and touch my forehead to my knees.

I had my sleeve done on 28 Feb, too! Two whole days after my 50th birthday.

Need some support from people who have had the sleeve
MermaidInAZ replied to TreeMystic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Surgery was also my last option. I don't regret it. Be patient during the first month and follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. The only negative I had was becoming dehydrated about 3 weeks ago (my surgery was 28 February 2018), but I'm doing a lot better now. All the best to you! -
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm very hesitant about going to restaurants after my surgery. Did anyone feel the same? What restaurants have you found to be "bariatric friendly"?

Bariatric surgery and restaurants

Have you and your wife ever ordered half portion instead of the regular sized portion? That's something I would ask about. -
Bariatric surgery and restaurants
MermaidInAZ replied to MermaidInAZ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm doing solids very slowly. I have had a slice of meatloaf that my sister made and it tasted so good, LOL! And it went down easy...in 25 minutes. I'm going on 2 months post op and the next thing I'll slowly start on are fruits and veggies.
