I have never been to a Smoothie King but my 1st question would be do they have any protein in them? The 1st 8-10 months you need to really focus on protein & make sure you get in what you are supposed to. Smoothies can really fill up your stomach so be careful that you aren’t going over 3oz if you are treating it like a meal. I would stick to a small homemade smoothie with protein powder added.

Gastric bypass and exhaustion
toodlerue replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Those 1st couple of months can be rough! Your body is going through a MAJOR change! You should be focusing on protein & hydration. Sounds like you are achieving that. As you add more food consistency and are able to exercise more your energy will return. I could not get over how few calories I was consuming those first few weeks! Hang in there it will be worth it! -
Almost 4 years out & I am still cold some of the time & I live in the Phoenix metro area😹

I put back on 1/2 of the weight I had lost after just a couple of years. Last January my BFF talked me into doing the Fast Metabolism Diet with her. After 2 months I lost 1/2 of that weight & after 6 months I had hit my goal weight (I never had done that). I have been holding that weight for the past 6 months. I totally changed my eating habits by not only following the Fast Metabolism plan but because of it I cut out all dairy which is a huge thing for me today! My body feels so much better in so many ways! You gotta get the book by Haylie Pomroy!

Successful post op gastric bypass
toodlerue replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was 53 when I had mine. My daughter was 22. Neither of us have any regrates! I have had a lot of surgeries for various things - I wasn't nervous at all about the surgery. My daughter has had 5 surgeries (4 for the same thing) - she wasn't nervous at all either. I'm not sure if the gas pain that people talk about is gas in their abdomen as general pain or the gas/discomfort that is felt in the left shoulder after any abdominal surgery. I have always had horrendous pain in my left shoulder after ANY abdominal surgery. It lasts for 2-3 weeks (but that's just me - because of scoliosis by torso is unique - I had my scoliosis corrected when I was 48 - DON'T WAIT THAT LONG!). My daughter had no troubles at all even though she also has scoliosis (she had hers corrected when she was 15 & has had 3 other surgeries because of the 1st one). But I can tell you our bodies feel so much better since getting all of the weight off because of weight loss surgery! I have lost over 70 (I am very happy with this weight & I feel great!). My daughter has lost over 150 & she is more active than she ever was before! Stick to your docs plan and take your vitamins! Just wear home whatever you wore to the hospital. No need to take an extra set of clothes. Your toothbrush, toothpaste, Biotin mouthwash is a great idea (I like the Walmart brand), phone charger & ChapStick & PJ's (so you don't have to wear the hospital gown once you start moving around). Good vibes & happy thoughts as you drift off to sleep in a few days! I always sing "I Wanna be Sedated" by the Ramones as I am wheeled to the OR. -
How long after RNY can you stop reflux meds?
toodlerue replied to mrsjo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For me it’s forever 😑 I had a RNY to correct a failed (12 years old) surgery to fix my hiatal hernia. Before RNY my esophagus was L-shaped and half of Diaphragm was above where it. Lately I have also been having to take Pepcid to control the reflux. I need to find a new bariatric Doctor Who can monitor me. Because of the reason that I had the bypass my surgeon was not a bariatric doctor he actually told me to get all of my information about the surgery and what needs to be done after in my lifestyle changes from the Internet I also need to find a Gastrologist because pills are getting hot when I swallow them just like they did before the bypass. I think my esophagus needs to be stretched again. I’m very sad about all of this because I was told that by having the bypass it would fix all of my problems permanently. Losing 70 pounds was a big plus out of it! -
Ephemeral said everything I wanted to say! It is very exciting to get your surgery date. Yes!!!! Keep your eye on the main prize, a better life for yourself. I’m glad you are working through your relationship with food. Knowing how you got to where you are & knowing what NOT to do are very, very important!

Wow! Your everything sure has a lot of stuff in it! JK those are all legitimate questions & things we all worry about pre-op. Some things to take into consideration is your starting weight & your age. The more you have to loose, the more excess skin you will have. If you are older, it might be harder for you to tone things up. The main thing is finding an exercise thing you can stick with! For me that has been Pilates. But even after doing Pilates 369 times I still have bat wings. I have always had a “poofy” stomach no matter how much I weigh, even at 100 pounds in my early 20’s. I would love to have a tummy tuck, but someone would have to die for that to happen so I will go without one. My daughter has that implant thing in her arm. She had a bypass just over 3 years ago (when she was 22) & has lost over 150. She has done great. I had a bypass to correct a failed surgery I had 12 years prior to control GERD that had failed. Because of this I have to take a Previcid for the rest of my life. As long as I don’t over eat (more then 3oz) & I don’t have spicy food the GERD stays under control. Today we ate lunch at a new place. But my husband & I both got heartburn! So we won’t be eating there again!

Surgery day will be here before you know it! -
What kind of vitamins & what time of day do you take them? Start a journal of when you eat, take vitamins & when you feel any of those things. I’m nauseous about 3-4 days a weeks. I buy meclizine on Amazon ($14.99/3 bottles of 100 pills) & keep them with me I had my RNY almost 4 years ago.

I think this varies depending on what your Surgon says. I have had one Surgon tell me that NSAIDS are fine to take via IV & another say to avoid them all together no matter what the form (this includes topical).

I take Wellbutrin for depression & I’m doing great.

HELP! 2.5 yrs out, pain and drastic unintentional wt loss this year
toodlerue replied to AnneFaye's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Can your surgeon look at the scan results? He looks at them differently then the GI. Have you had your hormones checked? And what everyone said above! -
Maybe. I can’t remember if I do or not😹

I agree with everything the has been said. Get a second opinion! Tell you it’s all in your head points to the doctor being unprofessional & crazy! Have you tried a GOOD electrolyte water? I have been felling punie & my naturopath told me to get Liquid IV or Drip Drops. Both are powders & both have vitamins. I use a 1/2 stick per day & have been feeling so much better. They may seem expensive, but you are worth it! I know it’s not the answer to everything that you are going through but it might help you feel better I’m the mean time.

I have an 12” scare down the middle of my back from an infusion surgery. Itched like crazy!!! I know the docs tell you not to put anything on them but I had to do cortisone! The healing is causing the itching. If they are red & splotchy you could be allergic to the glue or tape that was used. Then you definitely do need Benadryl.
-
So glad you are doing well. They made my daughter drink from a medicine cup every 15 min. I wasn’t a true “bariatric” so the orthopedic floor didn’t know what to do with me.

If you struggle with how fast you eat, put your fork down between each bite. It really does slow you down. When we have our fork in our hand most of the meal with tend to shovel the food into our mouths. I have had waiters ask me if I was done eating because my fork was on my plate & not in my hand. Dude! Don’t you know that the international sign for being done eating is a knife with the fork wrong side up in the middle of the plate with the handles resting on the edge. This makes it easy for the wait staff to put their thumb on the silverware so that they don’t drop it. “I’m done now, you can take my plate!”
-
I usually swish and spit water in my mouth after I eat. At 1st I found it hard to convince a waiter that I didn’t need anything to drink with my meal. My husband told me to just get water, it’s easier then telling them I don’t want anything to drink. I just feel bad about being wasteful with water.

I’m over 3 1/2 years & I still weigh my food at home. I don’t go over 3.5 oz of food. I do around 2oz of protein & the rest veggies or fruit & maybe some salad.

Strange Stomach Noises with Pain
toodlerue replied to Shagami's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This might not be related to your surgery at all. Go see a doctor! It could be a cyst that is filling up (causing the pain) & then it releases (causing the burp). My cousin had something similar but she heard a gurgling sound & then she was out of pain. -
Just because you can consume so much liquid at once doesn’t mean you should! what were your docs guidelines on how much to consume at each meal?
