Any 45+ year old women on here with gastric bypass experience?
Grammyrusty replied to timmytommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was 63 at time of my bypass surgery 3 years ago last May. I lost 150 pounds in about 18 months. I have regained 30. But have leveled off. I am restarting my liquid diet to restart weight loss. I feel great most days however I still have an occasional dumping. All in all I would have it done again if I knew all of this. Wish I had it done decades earlier though. -

Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
Grammyrusty replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi I am 62 and had my bypass on 5/8/18. I feel tired more at 7-8 weeks out than I did the first week. I think its because our bodies are healing and adjusting to our new lifestyles. I have lost 38 pounds but I had hit a plateau at 3 weeks and 15 pounds that lasted almost 3 weeks. Then the weight dropped off again faster. So its just our body telling us it’s not sure what the heck is going on. Hang in there rest when you feel super tired and keep following the doctors orders. I belong to a group of over 50’s bariactric patients on facebook. Check it out. Yo will see your not alone.Good luck! -
Hydration and exercise after bypass

I have to agree that you need to figure out your priorities first before making an decision. However, I also think you need to attend an seminar on weight loss surgeries so you can ask questions and get the answers. It doesn’t matter what anyone on this forum says really. As you need to get answers and the info from professionals who know the medical side of the equation. There are on line seminars you can log onto at home on your smart phone or laptop. My surgery is part of the ALSA GROUP IN FRESNO,CA. My surgery was performed at Fresno heart Hospital. They both have a lot of educational videos that you could benefit from watching. By the way: I am a 62 yr old disabled woman who had a bypass performed on 5/8/18. I couldn’t walk to my mailbox prior to surgery. I walk a mile now and no longer take 9 meds a day! Good luck on your journey! -

I started my journey at 58. Had surgery on 5/8/18 at age 62. I had spent most of 18 years in bed from pain. I now walk a mile! So thankful for my second chance at life! Good luck with yours!! -
I think it’s completely normal to miss our old lifestyles. I get cravings but learned to drink hot tea or munch on a bite of cheese or cottage cheese to get through it. I dont eat every time I get a craving though. We need to learn to get active when cravings hit. In time we will learn that we feel better making healthier choices as well. Take up a hobby it helps get through the liquid and soft foods stages. I am 21 days post op. Lets cheer each other on! Cottage cheese is my new love! Lol!

I am 62 had bypass on 5/8/18.My husband was not on board either. But it was life or death for me for my future. If he loves you he will come around if not then do it for yourself. Three weeks after surgery my husband is now on board. But I would do this journey alone if I had to , so I could live longer. I owe it to myself to be healthy.I am already off of 7 out of 10 meds I used to take prior to surgery! -
Doing really well. How are you?

Hi I am 62 and had a bypass on 05/08/18. Best thing ever I have done for myself. I have already cut my heart meds in half and cut out 3 out 4 high blood pressure meds. I have lost 21 lbs in 12 days since surgery. You will wish uou did this much sooner. Good luck and remember to follow your doctor’s food and vitamin regime after surgery. First week concentrate on getting all 62 ounces of water in. That is very important. Also 2 days after surgery your stomach will be massively bruised looking. It’s normal due to anticlotting meds that they put in stomach. -
I am nervous but excited! May 8th seems a long way off still.I have to started my liquid diet last Tuesday and still have over a week to go! Sigh...However beyond happy that time for surgery is approaching finally after a four year journey. Trying to physc myself up for it. Praying for strength!

So sorry yours was unsuccessful! I am awaiting my bypass on May 8th. I am 62 years young. I figure I have no life right now being so overweight. So the risks are worth it. Go for it and don’t look back! -
Hang in there! Up your water consumption. Walk, walk, walk if you can.

Intro time: who's new to the group, who's pre-op, & who just recently made it to the loser's bench?
Grammyrusty replied to xoxococojay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my weight loss surgery journey in 2013. I had a mild stroke and other disabilities that forced me to go out on disability and early retirement. Lost my insurance, took 3.5 years to get my social security disability case settled with a lawyer’s help. Then received my medicare. So finally restarted my program last August. My surgery date is May 8th! 2 weeks liquids before then. So happy! -
I just got my surgery date: May 8th! I have to do 2 weeks liquids prior to surgery. I plan on going home in robe and gown. Wont be stopping anywhere. Dont forget to order medical id bracelet that states you had surgery! Amazon has them reasonably priced too.
