    vitamins post-op

I use the Kirkland Sugar-free Children's Chewable multi vitamins from Costco. I read the back of the jar and 1 whole vitamin is an adult dose. 1/2 is the child size portion. They are dinosaur shaped and taste great!
  4. Yes, I use the Unjury and it's great! I've been banded a year and have tried others but the Unjury tastes really good and is really good for you. I know it's hard to believe that you'll ever drink another protein drink if you don't HAVE to, but with time you'll see that they really are good for you and I have one at least once a day now (my choice). Good luck to you and all the new and up-coming bandsters! Lisa
  5. Hi All! I'm a July Bandster from a year ago. My 1 year bandiversary was July 2nd and it's been an amazing year. As you can see, I've lost 82.5 pounds thus far and consider this the very best thing I have done for myself. No, it hasn't always been easy. For 10 days following surgery I wasn't able to sleep well because I sleep on my tummy and was sore. I remember calling my doctor asking if I was ever going to be able to sleep well again and feel "normal". He assured me that I would and of course he was right. On day 10 post-op, I was able to sleep on my tummy instead of tossing in bed or sitting up in a chair. The gas pain came about 2 weeks post-op but that passed quickly as well with the help of Gas-X every few hours. I DO remember how difficult it was to stay on the liquids the few weeks and then the mushie stage, but you'll be able to eat normal food eventually and that's what I kept in my head going through that tough time. I was also very nervous because I had a blood clot 5 years prior to my surgery and wondered if I would possibly get another one. Thank God I didn't have any problems. I had to self inject an anti-clotting medication (can't remember the name) for about a week and everything was fine. I can't believe a year has passed and I'm feeling great. I just wanted to write this to encourage all you up coming bandsters and let you know that there will probably be some rough patches but they will pass and you'll be so happy with the results. Good luck to you all! :smile2: Lisa
  6. Thanks again to all! Bigpapa2: WOW! It's not even a year for you and you've had an incredible weight loss! I've been celebrating in my head....just rejoicing in the fact that a year ago I was 82.5 pounds heavier and now I'm not...I still find it hard to believe! I also have it in my head to try and hit 100 pounds by the time I go back to work in Sept....I'm a teacher assistant and I'm off for the summer. Keep up the good work and the best of luck to you! Lacasst & blklab70: Thanks for the compliments and just keep on going. Yes, the weight loss does stall. I think what has happened is that my body is comfortable where it is and that's causing the loss to slow down. But I need to keep going...I'm not where I want to be yet so I now need to be really careful what I eat. I used to be able to be a bit more careless but now have to pull back the reins. I am determined to do this and you all can too! This site has given so much wonderful support...we're all in the same boat and rooting for each other....keep up the good work and good luck! Lisa
  7. Thank you all....your congrats are really appreciated! Good luck to you all on your weight loss journeys!
  8. Thanks Banditbear! I appreciate the support. I see you're doing great yourself....good luck to you as well and keep up the good work!
  9. Wow, what a ride it's been! After 1 year I am very happy to say I've lost 82.5 pounds! I don't believe I could have done it without the help of the Band. Anyone who is wondering if you should do this, ABSOLUTELY YES! It hasn't been smooth sailing all the way. You are still able to eat "fattening" foods if you choose and you have to make the right food decisions. On the occasion when food gets "stuck", it's very uncomfortable and hurts. That reminds you that you should eat slower and take smaller bites. I'm lucky that I can eat any food that I used to eat, I just have a much smaller portion and if it's not protein, it will be a really small portion. I alway have protein on my mind now when I eat. I'm writing this to say that getting the band is so worth it!!! I feel great and my confidence has gone up tremendously. It's the best gift I have given to myself! Good luck to you all! Lisa :tongue2:

    Protein foods...

Hi! Congrats on being banded and your success thus far. I agree with the previous post that it seems 2000 is too many calories, but if that's what you doctor recommends, then you should follow that. My doctor recommends 900-1200 calories a day. Anyway, you were asking about Protein. I love having 1 or 2 Protein shakes a day and that really helps me. I use unjury Protein powder to make my shakes and I feel really good about using it. I've done a lot of research on protein shakes and this brand gives you the best protein you can get. It also tastes great and is reasonably priced. You can purchase it on-line and see that 1 scoop of the powder gives you 20 grams of protein (mixed with skim milk you get a total of 28 grams!). I also like to reach for a hard boiled egg if I want something solid. It's a great source of protien and fills you up. Good luck to you and keep up the good work! Lisa :tongue2:
  11. Nope, no side effects for me....thank goodness! I was happy to do it, I had a blood clot in 2003 and was afraid of getting another one.
  12. Oh, that sounds yummy! I only use unjury and I like the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry sorbet. What flavor do you use in the recipe you mentioned? Lisa

    Updated Recipe, Peanut butter cookies

Hi! I LOVE these cookies (and so does the rest of my family). When I made them, I figured all the ingredients, added the calories up, and divided by 15, which is the batch amount. That gives you 75 calories and 4 grams of protein per cookie (as long as you make 15 cookies per batch). Lisa

    Any Long Islanders?

Hi Lauren, When I went for my first fill at Dr. Geiss's office, the nurse measured that I started with 2.7cc's in my band. I was suprised because I heard that you probably start out with 1-2 cc's. Glad you have that good restriction...I had that at the beginning as well. With time, you might find you need a fill, or you might just be able to lose all you need to without any fill at all (I've heard this can happen to people). Good luck to you in your weight loss journey! Lisa
