Hi Cappy, Glad I as able to help with your question. The fill really didn;t hurt. She missed my port the first try but got it on the second. They use a thin needle and I find it's easier not to look as they are inserting it....once it's in, you don't feel a thing. It's really no big deal. And yes, I do believe I'm at the right restriction now. It's so strange to know what's the right restriction for YOU. Everyone's different and I've read on this site that some people like to be so tight that they can hardly eat! I don't understand that....there was a point that I felt a bit too tight for my liking but now I'm ok. I would rather go with me having a bit more will power than to worry if what I eat isn't chewed so well and fear getting stuck and having to pb. I've been losing at a steady and consistent rate....I can't complain and am so thankful for this tool we have. Stay well everyone! Lisa P. :cursing:

Hi Everyone, Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Things around my house have been a bit hectic. I have 2 sons who are absolutely wonderful but there's been a few health issues and concerns and anyone out there with kids understands how hard it is when things happen with your kids. So I've been busy back and forth at the hospital with one and making doctors appointments for my other. But we're praying all will be well. Hope all is well with you all. Glad to hear of the successul bandings and we all made it through Thanksgiving....thank God! Cappy: You asked the question about how much Dr. Geiss puts in the band at the surgery. I was told it could be anywhere from 1-2 cc's. I was quite suprised when I went in for my first fill and the nurse aspirated what was in my band and she said there was 2.7 cc's! No wonder I was feeling restriction right from the beginning. She only put in 0.5 cc's my first and only fill so far and my restriction is just right. I hope to meet you all on Dec 10th. It will be great to finally meet. Keep up the good work all of you and stay happy! Lisa P.

2nd fill and now no restrictions
slim2be replied to idadi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could take some time to "kick in". I have been losing weight steadily since being banded in July. I'm one of those people who've felt restriction right away. I only had 1 fill 2 months post-surgery of 0.5 cc and didn't feel any difference until around 3 weeks later! I then started to notice that I had to be really careful about how much I put into my mouth, to chew VERY well, and eat slow. The nurse at the office said it could take a week to feel the restriction but it was at least 3 weeks before I felt it. Everyone's different but this was my experience. Be patient, it could take some time to happen. Good luck to you! -
What's everyone eating on Thanksgiving?
slim2be replied to Catherine55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll eat just about everything we are serving, just a whole lot less of it now. I was banded July 2nd of this year and it will be my first Thanksgiving banded. I'm not worried because the band really does it's job and helps me feel full quickly. Happy Thanksgiving to you all....enjoy! -
Dr.Justice, Well said! I'm a woman who totally agrees with you. I believe you said it well and correctly. As a woman, I too believe that if a man is denied sex just because his mate doesn't want it or isn't interested, he will go elsewhere or just be miserable. And as you said, it's different if she really isn't physically ready because of Lapband surgery or another kind of physical ailment. You are so right that it is ingrained in us as humans (mammals in general). It's one of the strongest desires...even people who are mentally challenged in institutions have that desire.

Hi Everyone! Wow Lisa, it's almost here...I'm really happy and excited for you. And Sue and Debbie, you're both right around the corner. I wish you all the best of luck and also to all reading this who have up-coming surgeries. Have a good weekend all! Lisa P.

Maybe this will help you with MOTIVATION

What's Leptin? I've never heard of this. -
Hi Everyone! I'm excited for you all who have up-coming surgeries....I wish you the best of luck....you'll do fine! CAPPY: You were asking about the Protein shakes...I was banded by Dr. Geiss and I used the unjury protein shakes (ordered via the internet). I posted on this thread about this a few weeks ago saying how pleased I was, and still am, about the product. I first initially ordered a few samples to try and I really was suprised at how good it tastes. I didn't like the taste of the Medifast. And the Unjury is just as good nutritionally, if not better....lots of whey protein. I lost 13 pounds that pre-op liquid week. Hope this helps! Lisa P.

The best advice you will ever get regarding the band:
slim2be replied to Weas123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
necerae, When I get stuck I have the same feeling as you, terrible pain in the upper stomach. Sounds like not everyone's "stuck" feeling is the same. -
I'm with you lipstix64....I totally agree! But I do know not everyone enjoys sex. I'm happy to say I'm not one of those people.

Hi Everyone! Hope you're all doing well. I'm excited for all of you who have your up-coming surgeries....I remember that excited feeling. Susancarole: Congrats on hitting 40 pounds....way to go! Lisa P.

There was a thread on this recently and it seems like men resumed "relations" as soon as they felt "up to it". I'm a woman and I was fine after 5 days...I wasn't going to wait longer that that. You'll be fine!

Hi MyMeshelle, I was banded on July 2 and I've had 1 fill so far on Sept. 9. I was fine for 4 weeks. Then I started to really feel restriction....after 4 weeks! I was quite suprised it took that long but it did. They only gave me .5cc of a fill but I definitely notice a difference. Now, I have to really be careful not to eat very dry food, eat slower, take small bites, and chew very well. They say to chew to the consistency of apple sauce. I know what you mean about getting that pain in your chest...OUCH! Now that I know what I have to do, if I follow these things, I'm fine. Hope this helps....good luck to you! Lisa

Realize bandsters verses Lap bandesters whats the different results
slim2be replied to BootyBee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded July 2, 2008 with the Lapband 10cc APS band. I've lost 52.5 pounds so far....I'm very happy with it! Lisa -
Got banded yesterday! question
slim2be replied to illinoishusker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on getting banded....glad to hear you're doing well. My doctor said to leave the bandages on until they come off by themselves. You migh want to call their office and see if they want you to replace them. By the way, love your "Lori" logo! -
Finally have restriction! YAY!
slim2be replied to Maribelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too....only one fill and good restriction. But it was interesting to see that I felt that good restriction about 4 weeks after the fill. -
Congrats Katy....you must feel so good! I'm happy for you....keep up the good work! Lisa

To band or not to band?
slim2be replied to travelbug26's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Travelbug, I was banded July 2, 2008 and I'm so happy with my band. I never even considered bypass because I've heard many negative things about it and it's so invasive. As far as restriction and when a person hits that right spot, I don't think any two people are alike with that. Some need many fills to get to their "sweet spot" (the band is filled just the right amount to allow you to eat less, feel full faster, and still get the right amount of nutrition). And some people have lost almost all of their weight with 1 fill or none. I consider myself lucky because I've had restriction right from the beginning. That happens to some people....don't know why. I've only had 1 fill of .5cc and it really wasn't necessary. The nurse said it was up to me because I've been losing weight steadily and I decided to get one to see how it felt. I know you wrote that you love carbs and sweets but you'll see that that desire for them will lessen with time because you'll be eating more Protein and veggies. In general, the less carbs you eat, the less you desire them. So, to answer your question about anyone being happy with their band, YES, YES, YES, I'm so happy with it....it's the best gift I have given to myself! Good luck with your decision! Lisa  -
WOW! Congrats to you....you deserve it! Keep up the good work!

Hi Everyone! Thank you for all the congrats...it's very much appreciated and I truly enjoy coming on the site to read and chat with people who are in the same boat as each other. Cappy: In your last post you were talking about doing without pizza. I too LOVE pizza....it's probably my favorite food and I wondered how I'd do without it. It's our Friday night staple too. Well, I still have it every Friday night. I wasn't able to have it when I was recovering on the liquid and mushy stages but after that, I tried it and I've been doing grea with it. Yes, I chew it well and have only 1 piece now....sometimes even 1 1/2 but I am so happy I can still have it and successfully lose weight. So don't worry, you'll probably do fine with it...just don't go over-board. HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE! Lisa P. :grouphug:

YIPEE, YAHOO....I've lost 50 pounds!!!
slim2be posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone! Just had to share my great news....today I hit the 50 pounds lost mark...as a matter of fact, it's actually 52.1! I am so excited and really find it hard to believe. I've been overweight most of my life and the most I've ever lost was 40 pounds at Weight Watchers when I was in my 20's. When I hit that mark, I just stopped following the program and continued to gain weight back plus some extra. Now, I can't believe that at the age of 45, I could lose 52.1 lbs in 3 1/2 months. I am so totally happy with my Band and I thank God for it's availability to us and for all the support I've gotten from my family and the people here on this website. As I've said before, it's the best gift I have given to myself. Good luck to you all on your weight loss journeys! Lisa  -

slim2be replied to slim2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vicky, just read your post....I too have a 10cc APS band. I've had 1 fill since surgery and now I have a total of 3.2cc. I'm one of the rare one's who've had good restriction since surgery. You are doing great with your weight loss....keep up the good work AND the exercise. Yes, I do exercise...I walk daily and I know it's been helping me. You might be at that stand still from the exercise but it will soon start going down again. Good luck to you! Lisa  -
YIPEE, YAHOO....I've lost 50 pounds!!!
slim2be replied to slim2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all again for the congrats....the support here is so great! Mona: I know it's hard being on the liquid phase but just keep in mind that it will pass. You must be so excited about your surgery....I'm happy for you. To answer your question on what I've been eating since surgery...I have a few rules that I adhere to. I always eat from a smaller plate (salad plate), use a small fork, I almost always eat my Protein first and them a small portion of a veggie, I don't eat in between meals, and never drink with my meals. I eat things like chicken, pork chops, meat loaf, really almost anything but just in smaller portions and cooked with very little fat. I'm sure not to eat things like fried chicken or fat laden foods. The band will not prevent you from eating the wrong things, but it will curb your appetite to give you that willpower to eat healthy. Good luck on your surgery....you'll do fine. Oh, and with the ticker, go to www.tickerfactory.com weigh loss ticker. For everyone here: be well, keep positive, and good luck on your weight loss journeys! Lisa
