Feeling overwhelmed that i can't do this!
maggiek replied to j in nj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One Too Many and Prinnie-great weight loss. What type of eating, exercise plans are you on? Congrats. -
DonnaB-I was banded about the same time as you and don't have anywhere near your weight loss. I'm impressed. What do you do, eat? Thanks.

You look and sound wonderful. Congrats! I'd love to hear how you were so successful as I am new to banding? What do you eat and do you exercise, although with a beautiful baby, you have built-in exercise!!

Thanks so much for the detailed response, CG1955. I just had my first fill of 1 cc so I , unfortunately, am not too restricted on my intake. I loved what you had to say-it reminds me again that the surgery is a tool, but my head needs to readjust, too. I was on a fast where I lost 185 lbs in 14 months and I lost a lot of hair also. My doctor suggested that I take one tablespoon of olive oil a day, but I was taking a lot of protein too. It did grow back eventually. It can be disheartening but you have done phenomenally. Thanks again.

Congratulations. Great success story. Can you give me a general idea of what you eat and how much and what exercise you did for the first 85 lbs.?

I am losing interest in my band....

I just got banded last week and I believe that I, too, got a Vanguard band due to my reflux spasms even without a band. I asked my doctor if there was less restriction and he said it produces the same amount of restriction but with more fill. I don't know if this is true. It was Dr. Fielding at NYU Med. Center in NY. You might ask your doctor about the differences between large and regular regarding restriction. Good luck to you. -
Was banded on 3/17/06 and I agree with the rumblings present. I had left shoulder pain for 4-5 days but now that I included a couple of protein drinks, Slimfast Optima High Protein, there are such major rumblings that my son said he could feel them through the couch! Very charming. Just a note on the constipation, some of the protein drinks have fiber which is important. Maybe that would help. I took 4 tbls of MofM and it gave me diarhhea but my sister, who has irritable bowel syndrome, swears by the stuff if taken regularly 1 or 2 tbls a night. Good luck. I want to know if anyone has "urps" where it is like a sudden intake of air but no full burp. I had a hiatal hernia repair and I don't know if that is causing some of the problem. Also, how long does it take for the port site pain to go away??

Congrats to everyone. I, too, will be banded on March 13th by Dr. Fielding in NYC. I have 120 lbs. to lose. I've had my gallbladder out which is similar but I am still somewhat nervous about the surgery. Luckily, I met someone through LBT that had the same doctor and surgery. I know this is the right thing for me because I desperately need something to help me keep the weight off. No more yo-yos for me!!!

I am scheduled to have LB surgery with Dr. Fielding at NYU and he suggested putting in a larger, softer band with takes more fill but it is easier on the esophagus. Does anyone know about large vs. small band? Also, does anyone know Dr. Fielding?
-
Thanks for the responses. It really helps to get real information from LB members. I appreciate all the time taken to respond to my questions and everyone's questions and communications. This is a great place to call home.

Hi, I am new and scheduled for lapband in March in New York. Does anyone have any information on regular vs. larger band? My doctor says it reduces reflux and is softer but I haven't seen any information on it. It is great that everyone shares and there is an honest and open forum. Thanks.
