    Sleep Study

I got a little machine that I had to use for three nights at home. Very annoying. Surprised I passed with how many times it woke me up.
  2. 1. Family--I got two little ones 2. Health--only in my 30s but my BP is atrocious 3. Mobility--I was already very mobile but that would eventually change as I aged. 4. Longevity--eh, who wants to live forever? 5. Looks--I was way way hotter fat, and way more confident fat too. Certainly did not do this to be a saggy, mush bag. 6. Romance--married for 11 years to a great guy who loves me big and not so big, but has already warned me he may trade me in for a "bigger one" if I get too small. so certainly not for romance.

    Buyer's Remorse

I find eating more for a few days jumps starts things. There have been times where I over do it on fruit and nuts, thinking I have sabotaged my week and then I hop on the scale and bam! 5 pounds gone. The body needs a shake up every once in a while. Oh, and try a laxative!
  4. Here is my ranking--as you can see I think the entire weight loss things is all in your head (sprinkled with a bit of luck)--then what you put in your mouth, and bringing up the rear is my surgeon --because honestly living close to NYC there is a plethora of highly skilled surgeons, and he has had very little one-on-one time with me. My Nutritionist has been more instrumental---Dead last is exercise, because I don't. lol. And I have lost nearly 60 pounds in three months. I do walk every where, about 4-5 miles a day, so I am not sedentary. I just do not do anything formal. 1.Will to succeed 2. Luck 3. Mental health 4. Emotional stability 5. Diet 6. Supportive home environment 7. Skill of surgeon 8. Exercise

    Let's compare!

Let's see--I am three months out on Friday. I very rarely get my 64 oz in. I usually get to 50 oz (i don't count my shakes as fluid, as my NUT told me not to). My calories are between 600-900 a day. I stay below 60 carbs, and I do actually get all my protein in, at least 60 grams per day, but usually I am over 80 grams. I have issues with stomach upset and GERD so I still get most of my nutrition from protein shakes and protein powder in greek yogurt. I forget my vitamins often.

    I want to cry

It does get better. I will be 3 months on Friday and I still have some very rough days but all and all I am starting to manage. When you do take your vitamins again, try to take them at night. That helped a lot with my nausea issues.

Post op week two-need a buddy

    Hi Letsgetgoing, where in NY?
  8. I have a desk job, I had my surgery on April 27 and returned to work on May 8th, so 10 days. I was fine. Really depends on how physical you are at your job.

I have been stalled for awhile now

okay, so I am can understand why you are frustrated, nobody removes most of their stomach for 20 lousy pounds. So I get it. But I think 50 pounds in two months is rather ambitious, I am 12 weeks tomorrow and I have only lost 55 pounds. I also started at a much higher BMI than you. My program said to expect 8-12 pounds a month. So if you are looking at that, you are really not that off. Still I would try to talk to your nutritionist and go over your diet, see if anything is slowing you down.

    Am I cheating??? Yes!!!

I was put on soft protein (shredded chicken, soft fish) at three weeks. All programs are different. I would say just be careful with portions, keep it below 3 oz.

How/What do you tell your kids?

Mine are 7 and 3. I never presented my "weight" as my problem to my kids. I don't want to mess with their little minds or feed into negative social constructs. I am all about body acceptance and positively as long as you are healthy. I told them, Mommy's stomach got stretched out and so the doctor is going to make it the right size again. They handled it well. My 3 year old is the cutest--he makes us "dinner" using play-dough and he makes mine the smallest for my little tummy.

    12 week follow up

My 12 week appointment is tomorrow too. I was sleeved 4/27 and will be 12 weeks on Friday. Down 55 pounds since surgery. 70 pounds is fantastic! Congrats! Was that all post-op or pre-op combined? Good luck tomorrow!
  13. I just ate a bag of skinny pop from the vending machine at work. The most delicious 100 calories I have had in weeks.

    Fighting the Negativity

My mother. I initially made the decision not to tell her until a few months after surgery. Mainly because she has seen the surgery fail time and time again. Plus, what mother wants their kid to go under the knife. She has yo-yo dieted all her life, but does not have the same weight problem I have, she is just a little chunky. So I don't think she understands the daunting task of losing 100s of lbs as opposed to 40 lbs. She kept saying how I lost it all once, I could do it again on my own. When I started losing weight with my nutritionist pre-op, she gushed about how happy she was I was doing it the "right way" and not getting surgery. That kinda cemented my decision not to tell her. But thanks to my blabber mouth sister she learned two weeks before my surgery. Luckily the indignity of not being told my plans kinda shocked her into silence---for a while. At our fourth of July bbq she started telling everyone about yet another person that had the sleeve who has started to put the weight back on. It took me a long time to come to the decision to have surgery, and it is all because of my kids. No other reason. But it is ingrained in me that I have "cheated," that this surgery is something to be ashamed of. I have told almost no one, and I plan to keep it that way. My body, my business.

How bad is Gerd after Sleeve?

I had very mild GERD before my sleeve, if i took an antacid once a month it was a lot. They also discovered a hiatal hernia which they repaired. I am 10 weeks out and have acid issues every day. I take Pantoprazole 20 mg twice a day, plus 40 mg of nexium at bed time. Plus I pop a few tums per day. I am still sick to my stomach. There are days were I just can't bring myself to eat. There are a lot of people that have no ill effects and others that medication works for. I don't seem to be one of them but I am still hopefully time will remedy this. There is no way to tell how the sleeve will effect you until it is done. Best of luck.

    Fast food

Wendy's chili. Nutritionist said this was a great choice when you have to do fast food.

What is a realistic WL monthly target?

I will be the first to chime in with numbers. This came from the nutritionists within my surgeon’s practice. You should expect to lose 8-12 pounds a month for the first 6 months. Then 6-8 pounds for the next 6 months. That being said everyone is different and if you are coming in with only 50 pounds to lose it’s going to go much slower. Try not to compare. It will drive you crazy.

    Regret it

I also got nauseous at around week 4, to a point where I was taking pregnancy tests. It took a few weeks to die down. Hope it subsided for you soon.

I had a little cup of caramel icecream today

I think a full cup this early out is not the best idea. But I would be a bald face liar if I said I don’t take a teaspoon of ice cream when I am dishing it out for my kids. I also had a bite of chocolate lava cake yesterday because again the family was eating it. I think little nibbles keep you sane. If you want to have a full serving of something I know that there is a high protein low net carb ice cream bar out there. If I think of the name I will come back and post it. To piggyback on what the others were saying, you cannot expect to not live your life. Food is a part of life. I was told by my nutritionist it was ok to have ice cream a few times a month or even a slice of pizza —-but not until you are close to goal. Don’t waste your honeymoon period.
  23. Mine was $45,000 (I paid $300), but that was the whole enchilada. Room, meds, operation, anesthesia. Are you sure it was 45,000 just for surgery?

Where does everyone live? (General area)

I was an NYC girl all my life but last year we bought a house upstate in dutchess county. It has been an adjustment!

    30-30-30

Do we know the reason for the 30 minutes before? I had two nutritionist tell me that you can drink before meals just not during or 30 minutes after. So what is with the 30 minutes before?
