    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Okay, a lot of catch-up today. 12. How I eat now? Measuring everything--even at work with my portable food scale. 13. Lazy weekend, did a little shopping including these very appropriate PJs for my daughter. 14. Biggest NSV thus far was fitting into the Dragon Coaster at Rye playland back in August 15. Transformation Tuesday---one on the right was June 2017, I don't know how much I weighed---maybe 320. I hit 330 very soon after and not wanting to get back to my all time high of 377 is when I decided on pursuing my gastric sleeve. 16. Halfway progress---here it is onederland. Lordy, did that take a long time! Also started therapy on Monday, so hopefully onto a better place soon. 17. Today I am being a bit spartan since I was home sick yesterday and took it as an excuse to eat excessively and not make good choices. And there isn't heavenly god juice in that coffee mug---just an isopure protein shake.

It has to do with the amount of tissue loss and sag. At my largest i was a 40H. So going down 3 cupsizes, and going from a 50" chest to a 4 1" chest makes the lift they have to do more complex. Also I breast Fed two kids, and this is my second major weight loss (112 pounds in my early 20s). My skin has had it. The good news is that they usually can do the lift and implant at the same time. I am just a special case. I felt ok going to bariatric pal MX. The price was right, for sure. But my family just was not in board. And it felt really impersonal. As for their work I thought their tummy tuck looked on point with what you get in the states. The breast were...um, how do I put it it...a little porn star in appearance. 😅
  3. I didn't have to share a room. But I was in a "bariatric" wing, so if I had to it would be someone with a vomit risk attached. Ask. It really depends on the hospital size and if they have a dedicated section.

Surprised this didn't turn into a block of ice on my way to the train with how cold it is in NYC today. Cheers!

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Consult run down- my 1st consults I am grouping as one - those were the Mexico ones, which are basically just virtual. Price for both surgeries was between 8-9.5K. Fam begged me not to go to Mexico then my cardiologist said I would come back in a box so they got nixed Right away. FYI, Idid get a quote from Bariatric Pal MX for all those curious. You never "converse" with the surgeon during the process (which is different from the other Mexico consults) and they didn't have any openings until September. My second consult was probably the worst. Surgeon said with the amount of sag I have the implant would have to be done in a separate surgery- which was hard to hear. What was harder to hear was that I would end up part of the itty-bitty titty comittee. He said I would end up possibly a B cup. That is a no go, even for the 4 months in between surgeries. Plus how the hell are you gonna turn a 36DDD into a B. What type of hack job is that? Quote for that 19K. On to today's consults (#3 & #4) first doctor was super personable. He said he'd have no issues doing the implant and lift at the same time. But it would need to be a small implant - with out the implant I would end up a large C but would not have that full round look on top. With implant, rounder, perkier. Arm lift, great candidate, easy-peasy. Scars with be long and knarly, with take a year to lighten. He said I would have drains in the arms for a week, no drains on the breasts. Cost for that 17,513. Second consult of the day(#4 consult) was a bit more dicey. First off Doctor was a little surly (but f*cking handsome) and he had a similar take as the first of the American surgeons. Lift and implants at the same time were not a good idea. Why? Chance of revision would be high, symmetry would suffer, chance of necrosis of the nipple high. What I did like about him was the fact that he crinkled his nose when I said the other doc said I'd be a B. Worst case scenario, large C, probably a D. If they ended up a D, frankly I wouldn't go back for the implant. I might loose feeling in my nipples, yikes. Again, arms no biggy, great candidate. Cost 15,400. He said if I wanted the implant later for fullness on top, he would give me a steep discount. Still two consults to go on January 28 and then I make my decision. Oh, and no one today said anything about it being too soon. So if you want plastics now, go!

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Just finished reading sophomoreville (train got stuck this morning so I had plenty of time to read that monster) and now this one. Thanks ladies for creating this awesome thread--it is really is needed for us inbetweeners. Harking back to the plastics convo from the previous thread incarnation - I am going for two more consults today for the boobs and arms, so I will have info for all those impatient sophomores not wanting to wait. My first two were, um...disappointing. Yes, they are going to bring up that fact that they like to wait until your weight "stabilizes," but I was firm with #1 can't wait & #2 I gots the money! Then, they were all onboard. And let me just add I am super jealous of the real vacay musings - with the littles our next trip is disney world in March 😩. I will just have to live vicariously through all of you.

    Only A Few Active Members

I come and go. I think a lot of it has to do with the regurgitation of the same old posts. They are new to the newbies, but for people 6+ months out it gets old. And me personally, I'm not exactly a vet at 8 months out, so its not like I can give some sage advise to them. What was very useful in the beginning becomes less useful. That is why I like seeing certain posts that address different points in the WLS journey. It gives you a reason to keep checking in.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

I'm gonna be useless for this challenge --as I don't cook for myself--I assemble. So no recipe--here is my assembly Open dole very veggie salad mix --take out hand full and plop of plate--pray I don't get e-coli Open bag of pre-made organic grilled chicken strips, take a pinch--plop Get contanier of mixed olives, pick 6, plop (<--sense a pattern here?) Shred some overly sharp cheddar on top in lieu of dressing. Eat. Luckily, I am a creature of habit and I don't tire of food too often, so I eat this like 3xs a week fir dinner. It works.
  10. Hello Ladies! It's been a while. Still trying to claw my way to onederland. But I am hoping I see it soon! Been dealing with a lot of depression, anxiety, and health wise I feel pretty blah. I have some deficiencies going on--Vitamin A, D, Zinc and iron. I am trying to be more religious with my vitamins but it is hard since they still make me nauseous. Also, I am almost always dizzy. Goal for this year is to get and be more positive. Welcome to all the newbies and congrats on all the progress!

    Not my Dr., Thank Heavens!

Um, yeah, this is a no from me dawg. 1200-1400 calories is what I got from my nutritionist for the maintenance phase. What is more surprising is the comment about not weight lifting....it is well established that muscle burns more than fat. Does this doctor even know that google exists? 😜

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

More than a little late, but after a hiatus from BP I find myself in need of camaraderie, support, and accountability. So here's some catch up--some w/ pics, some without. 1. See below. 2. Many: *Get into onderland (been bouncing for weeks between 200-201)* Find a therapist and go (my headspace has been awful as of late)* Pick a darn surgeon for my plastics (can't find the right fit but looking forward to new boobs and arms by summer)* Start tracking and keep tracking. I've gotten super lax with this. Not good.* 3. 2018 goal??? Get surgery and survive---nailed it! 4. Pic below--I'm gonna have to say fitting into the Marchesa dress I got on clearance from Saks back in June. A designer size 14 (as opposed to contemporary sizing) is a big deal! 5. Um, no. 6. Missed this. 7. Gonna go back to the Marchesa dress--inspired by the feat of fitting into it. Motivated to fix my arms and breasts so I can look good in it. 8. Still walking 40-50 minutes a day, plus getting my booty on the treadmill at home. Want to start some squats, Still too cold for trekking to the gym (I walk--don't drive) so need to stay active at home. 9. Meal prepping--pic of my breakfast/lunch for today. Kinda still falling apart at night. I got this really bad habit of picking when I am preparing dinner for my family. Not as bad as November and December but I can use some discipline.
  13. What is, "What are things that are painfully slow?" Bariatric surgery for $400, Alex. So for the past three weeks I have gone back and forth between stalls and losing like .5 pounds a week. I tried mixing it up--more exercise, less carbs, more carbs, less calories, more calories, more water, more protein---more hair pulling!! I was afraid of this. When I lost 112 pounds in my 20s, it was in the 220s I slowed down and got a little crazy--purging, laxatives, fasting (aka starving). Now I am a big grown woman and I can't say I have those urges again but the panic is the same. Why does it need to be like this? Why this reaction? Why can't we all just chill when we stall?
  14. Challenge Starting weight: 210 - currently 206.6 Current weight lost: 170.4 pounds , weight loss since challenge accepted, 3.4 pounds Losing or maintaining weight: still losing- 31.6 pounds to go. Fitness/exercise goal: 4xs a week at gym, 5 miles of walking each day. - not happening. So much crap going on. I know, excuses, excuses. Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019) 11 pounds, onederland by Jan 1 - 7.6 pound to go. Check in: Getting it going again. Have not be great with physical activity this week, but making my 5 miles most days. Need to commit to getting back to the gym, but this week I don't think it will happen. AM eating on point. PM eating I fall apart.
  15. Challenge Starting weight: 210 Current weight lost: 167 pounds Losing or maintaining weight: still losing- 35 pounds to go. Fitness/exercise goal: 4xs a week at gym, 5 miles of walking each day. Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019) 11 pounds, onederland by Jan 1 Check in: Tell us how you are doing - I was doing really well, I was down to 208 but after Thanksgiving over indulgence and major stress (my cat of 15 years passed, and two people at work accused me of alcoholism because I look tired and puke in the bathroom---but you can all guess why---I am borderline anemic, low on zinc and vitamin A---but still the accusation had to go through legal and I had to disclose the fact I had a sleeve) hoping to toughen up, stop the stress eating and have a big weight loss for December.

    TMI TMI Female Problems

Truth! But yeah, I had a very high sex drive before surgery--now I honestly care less. I do hope it balances out soon!
  17. So I had the buyers remorse big time for the first 3 months. Then a big case of the "mehs" for the next two. It was only when I moved into my 5-6 month I was finally at peace with my decision. But for me it was a special case with the GERD, I suppose. I needed to have some physical relief before I could accept things and be happy with my loss.
  18. You are killing it, luv! Good luck on your next 15 pounds!
  19. Hello all. Thought I would check in since tomorrow is my 6 month surgeiverary. I am down 91 pounds since surgery, 165 from my all time high. As you can see loose skin abounds. I am not at peace with any of my body changes yet, but I am at least happy to report that my GERD is getting less severe, even if it is just a minor improvement, it is still welcomed. I am a size 12 up top for most things, size 14 or 16 on bottom depending on the cut. Boobs 40H-->36G. Still have 37 pounds to go but feeling like I might actually make it. My before picture is actually a few days after surgery. My three year old swiped my phone and I found this pic later. It is my only real before surgery picture so I kept the awful thing. Thighs still spread the same but whatcha gonna do? 😎

    Should I switch to RNY?

Unfortunately, it is an everyday thing no matter how bland I eat. If I don't take my nexium I am in trouble. However, the tum consumption depends on what I am eating. Like I had chili last night so I am popping tums like a fiend today.
  21. YeahOkay31

    Should I switch to RNY?

Both surgeries can fail if you don't follow your plan, adopt a healthier lifestyle, and tame those demons. I have seen sleeves gain their weight back, I have seen bypasses gain their weight back. It has much more to do with compliance overall. I have lost 84 pounds in a little over five months with a sleeve--but I follow my plan 90% of the time. You should never expect your tool to do all the work, so just keep that in mind. As for the GERD, I had very slight issues before the my sleeve, I had a hiatal hernia so my surgeon figured repairing that would cure any GERD and I would be okay. Sadly, my GERD is pretty bad now, I take 40mg of Nexium everyday plus maybe 2-6 tums a days depending on how bad the pain is. I have a lot of break through pain even with meds. This would be the only reason I would advise looking into the RNY more carefully. Long term use of PPIs are not very safe. Good luck with whatever surgery you chose!

Mary Jane is Legal Where I Live

I have used it for nausea after my sleeve. But I can't over indulge--only a few hits. If I smoke more than that I get the munchies and because I am not nauseous and it dulls pain I have over eaten afterwards. Everything in moderation, including moderation. 😉

    Frustrated with stall

Hi Hungryman! So I am just going to answer your question. I just come out of my longest stall today. It was three weeks and I am five months out. All people are different, all stalls different (yadda, yadda)--but from personal experience stalls last a few weeks.
  24. I was 11 weeks out at that time. I could go for a bag today! 😂
  25. I feel like I only come here to complain.  And so for my first status update, I will try to remain consistent and...complain! I almost busted out in tears this morning as I caught my reflection in a window walking to work.  I hate my body.  It is horrible.  I don't know how to reconcile the new me, I knew that there would be loose skin, I knew seeing myself lighter after two kids was going to yield a different shape, but I guess you really don't know until you see it.  I hate always complaining and not reveling in the good, but I feel so defeated.  I am so sick of looking gross and unwomanly.  Add to this that I am still on BP medication, and the Gerd is awful, this all feels like a big freaking mistake.

    1. Sosewsue61

      Sosewsue61

Take heart, you state that you do not feel 'womanly' - could this be that you are just used to associating the term womanly with large curves or prominent curves? Our eyes and minds deceive us all the time.

Have you shopped for some new/used clothes yet? I find shopping and getting some new makeup uplifting. I wear a spanx bra/cami all-in-one and find a little smoothing makes my silhouette look a lot better, and keeps the 'girls' in place better. The fat will shift around a lot during this process and you are younger and some of the skin will retract. I am an old broad, so I will resort to plastic surgery.

Get some therapy for awhile, it may help. And you are not done yet, give your mind some time to catch up to the improved you.

Thank you for your reply--I think ultimately I will have to speak to someone professionally. I am a bit disappointed in myself. I knew this physical change would not be easy, and I thought I was prepared but it still stings.

As for the unwomanly that can be summed up as no butt!!! lol 😆😆
