  1. Thank you! I have been hiding after a very bad March---(damn you disney world), but I got off the 8 pounds I gained plus 1, so all is not lost. I felt ok, really. I probably could of went the full 48 or at least 36. Just my anxiety got the better of me. Plus I have been dealing with some phlebitis in my left leg (two spots) plus this morning it looks like I am getting another clot on my right forearm. I have no clue what is going on. My doctor didn't think much of it, but I went two weeks ago when it was just one clot. I am going to follow up next Thursday. But from everything I read, fasting can only help clots, so onward I go!

    Weight-loss funnies

    Some of my favs---
  3. Hello IF gang! Has anyone managed to get to 48 hours? I just finished the Obesity Code (great book) and I have managed a two 20 fasts and just finished a 33 hour fast. I could have went longer since I didn't feel any adverse effects or hunger but I dunno--I freaked out. Like I am terrified I am going to suddenly pass out from an electrolyte imbalance or something will go amiss with my BP (I have hypertension). I need some IF balls, people!!!

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

So I got a question for you all: the 60% average of excess weight that most patients lose in the first year, how do you determine what is 'excess'? Are we suppose to be using the BMI scale which for me is max 164 lbs, or one of the ideal weight scales, which is 141-145 lbs. ??

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Hi Debbie. Slim fast shakes (even keto) are a 'no'. Get yourself some isopure Zero Carb (https://www.amazon.com/Isopure-Protein-Powder-Isolate-Flavor/dp/B0015R26V8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2NYY6LR9OVRPW&keywords=isopure%2Bzero%2Bcarb&qid=1554828012&s=hpc&sprefix=iso%2Chpc%2C116&sr=1-1-spons&th=1) if you must have a shake--mix it with some fairlife, or even water. But at six months you should really try to be eating solid food at least two of your meals (3-4 oz of lean protein, 1/2 cup veggies). Snacks are ok --in my book at least--but something like 1.5 oz of cheese, edamame or cucumber slices. And no more than twice a day. Good luck!

    Food Funeral

I had a food funeral to end all food funerals, a week of over indulgence. So much so I gained 5 pounds. I only had a two day pre-op diet, so it was not enough time to lose what I gained. Luckily it did not end up complicating a thing and I went on to lose 114 pounds in 10 months.

    ❤MARCH 2019 CHALLENGE❤

#7 - my faith in humanity. As cynical as I can be, I can't seem to shake my belief that most people are kind and capable of change. B side - fav fruit is cherries, fav veggie is asparagus
  9. Yep, totally possible. I only lost 90 in six months, but that may because I lost a considerable amount during the pre-op( 30 pounds right before, 74 overall). Either way, you can do it!

    ❤MARCH 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I'm late but in---just returned from vacation so need to get back on track. Dropped out of the Feb challenge, there was just too many events to stay honest. Your goal for this challenge: to lose 8 pounds beginning weight: I don't know and I don't wanna! I had my follow up with my surgeon on February 26 I was 189 lbs. I haven't weighed myself since and I drank about 200,000 calories of boozy drinks on vacay so I am in avoidance mode. Regardless of where I am now, I am counting this as my starting point and saying 181 lbs my goal for March 31st. status of surgery (pre/post/losing/maintenance): Losing (slowly) 1. Three words to describe myself: poised, empathetic, irreverent 2. Kiddos sleeping until after 8:00 AM, coffee, a clean kitchen (stole that one from ummyasmin but damn if it isn't true) 3. So do I write about today or March 3rd. I will go for March 3rd -- which was that I was able to give my kids a magical day at Disney's Magic Kingdom (complete with dinner at the castle--which the 4 year old slept through). I was exhausted, and not amused, but they loved it and I am glad I was able to give them the experience. 4. One happy memory from my childhood: My mother coming with me on a school trip. She worked all the time and could never chaperone but one day she did take off and came. We went to the south street seaport, which is still one of my favor spots in the city---I wonder if this is why. 5. My husband ---my only true friend. 6. Um, ate better....I am still on vacay mode. Sipping on a sugared coffee and ate a ham, egg, and cheese on a croissant (threw out half the croissant). That is all I've had. Behind on protein, haven't even had a sip of water yet. Yikes!

Why am I losing weight so slowly

Going off only of what you have told us, it is one of two things: you are eating too much or too little. Even if you are just eating protein and fruit, if you are eating 1800 calories a day and only burning 1800 per day (and it is quite possible to have a very low BMR) you are in maintenance mode. OR you are eating too little and your body may be in starvation mode, making weight loss super hard. If your calories are under 800 per day, try bumping it up to 1000. Best of luck!

One Year Post RNY Surgery - FluffyChix

    Congratulations Fluffy! Truly inspiring!
  13. I am super obsessed. Love it, have seen every episode and every "where are they now" episode. I have a Dr. Now magnet on my fridge that reads "why you eat so much?" I know its exploitative and trash but everyone has their guilty indulgence, this is mine. However, it always makes me hungry when I watch it. Also, family by the ton--the King family. that was entertaining.
  14. In fall/winter 2017-18 I started to experience major side effects of all the Blood pressure medications I was on. I was withdrawing from my family, I was frustrated with my doctors, I felt they were never going to listen to me until I was a normal weight. every problem I had would always be "lose weight." I thought, I could literally die because doctors don't listen to fat people. Also, after losing nearly 70 pounds on my own, it was coming back on. So, I made my appointment and here I am. Unfortunately I am still hypertensive and on meds, but I am feeling 50% better, so that's something.

Coming up with a diet plan

I don't know how much help I would be in terms of meal plans because I am one of those regimented eaters that does best when I am eating the same old stuff over and over again. I can tell you (and vet @sillykitty) will tell you as well, drinking water isn't always a must with the weight loss. I get about 40 oz a day in and I've done respectably. Would I be doing fantastic it I chugged 100 oz a day, I dunno, but I suspect not. For what it's worth, this is how I eat, hopefully it will help with your meal plan: Breakfast: Isopure protein shake w/ fairlife milk; sometimes I will do two hard boiled eggs with some carrot sticks, or if I am being lazy a quest protein bar or cookie (I try to avoid this because it is putting all your carbs in one basket). And coffee--always lots of coffee. Lunch: usually cold cuts (Boars head low sodium turkey or ham rolled in swiss or provolone). Other times I will do chobani yogurt with Isopure unflavored protein powder or grilled chicken over salad with some olives and cheese sprinkled in (I don't do dressing) Snacks: I rely on dry roasted edamame, on occasion cashews or almonds, carrot sticks, or my favorite snack is actually allowing myself some creamer in my coffee. Dinner: Your standard 3-4 oz of protein (usually chicken) with a half cup of veggies. Once in a while i throw in some black or red beans. At least once a week I just boil up some shrimp cocktail--I love it and it is super easy and easy on my stomach too. Now, this plan is not really low carb--I can get up to 70g a day sometimes, but it works for me, and most of my carbs are the "good" kind, which I think helps. In terms of calories, depends on the day sometimes I barely crack 700, other times I am pushing 1200. Just to echo back to what FancyChristine was saying, you probably already know what to do. This weight loss thing really is all in your head. You get back on track by just doing what you gotta, even if it is unpleasant. So much more easier said than done, and let's face it, none of us would be here if it was easy. Anywho, I wish you luck. You can get back on track!

When did you stop using shakes?

I am 9 months out and just had a shake for breakfast (isopure vanilla no carb powder with fairlife milk-165 cal, 31g protein, 3g carbs). I don't know when I'll stop, but they fill me up and help me get to my protein goals.
  17. If I look back at MFP app, it seems I was in the 700-850 range at that time, sometimes spilling into 900 calories.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Always been focused on the long term, just because out of the six people I know personally who have had WLS, only one has had long term success. Regain has always been in the forefront of my brain. What is giving me a hard time right now is the stall I am in. I have been between 194-195 for almost three weeks now. Even though I have had a few scheduled bad days (birthdays, super bowl--and by bad I mean like 1600 calories, and going over on carbs), other than that I have been on point. Exercising religiously 5-6 times a week, eating under 1100 calories, under 65 grams of carbs. It is reminiscent with my first major weight loss (305 lbs-->193 lbs) where no matter what I did, I could not get any lower and just got frustrated and gave up. That is what gets me about the forever part. Its the constant discipline to maintain a weight which is not my ideal--killing myself to maintain a mediocre success. And I can see myself, there is still fat there, I still have more to lose. Grrrrrrrrr. (Okay, enough with the pity-party, b***h-fest) On the surreal side, I picked up a medium "ho" dress for after my plastics and the thing fit. Granted my back fat game is strong but it looked solidly alright considering I was not wearing any shapewear. (I'll post a pic) You'll have to picture it without the bra though--no way to go without at the moment. @sideeyeThose spanx bodysuits are pretty--but do you have to take the whole thing off to pee?? Folks in comments were saying that they just pull it to the side, and I know I would be the elegant lady that pees on her hand.

    April 2018 progress pics.

Congrats on your amazing success @Jsims32! as per your request, I am an April sleever. SW:303, CW:195
  20. My insurance will pay for the stomach only and that is if you can prove medical need. I am having my arms and breasts done in the spring and will be paying out of pocket. I suggest looking into finance options (which will allow you to pay monthly) and also medical tourism if you can find someone to travel with you. Going to even BP's affiliated surgeons would have saved me 8,000$. Ultimately I decided it was worth the extra money to stay in the states. I wish you lucK.

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

#5 Ok, what my friends would say about me - witty, generous, honest (to a fault) something that makes me happy - I guess posting pictures of all the food I can't have anymore would be bad, right? I'm going to go with Sakura Matsuri --and just plain old cherry blossom season in general. I think it is one of the prettiest natural occurrences and it always reminds me of the wonders of the world no matter how gloomy I am feeling. This picture is from 2010, me and the hubby resting under a tree, talking about me starting to lose weight so that we could have a kid. I never got to lose that weight then, but I found out I was pregnant a few weeks later.
  22. I am a champ at losing weight. I am the all time loser when it comes to keeping it off long term. That is why I got the sleeve, to help me maintain long term. Will it work? Only time will tell, I am only 9 months out. 43 pounds is great, but let's be real. 2 months of bad eating and sitting on our butts and it is all back (and it usually brings a few friends). Seeing how your health (elevated sugars) is at immediate risk, I would pull the trigger while you have the opportunity. Good luck no matter your decision.
  23. For me it will be 10-11 months (breast/arm lift). None of the surgeons I saw (which was 5 in person or two medical tourism) had any issue with me not waiting until I was at goal--said I was close enough (20 pounds). They want that green. $$$$ 😆 I have to wait for my weight to be stable for 6 months for my insurance to cover the panni. Oh well.

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Failed hard at the super bowl shindigs--have a hand full of chips and a Hershey kiss. The shame! 😭 Oh, well tomorrow is another day! So catch up time-- #1 New selfie-pass (I try at least to keep my identity "questionable"). About me: Old. cranky. administrator, new yorker, wife, mom, tall, fat, atheist, irreverent, kind #2 My favorite facial feature - my lips. My favorite physical characteristic: My neck and shoulders; no matter how fat I was I always had a beautiful long neck and statuesque shoulders. #3 Mah neck -behold! (Man those baby hairs are too much). My favorite personality trait: empathy/kindness, for all my gruffness, I truly don't like to see people hurt. #4 laughing pic- I laugh at this PASS. I need to forgive myself for allowing myself to get so fat and waiting too long to pull the trigger and have the sleeve. I don't know if I can just snap my fingers and forgive myself, but that is what therapy is for, I suppose.
