  1. Overall, studies suggest those who lose at least 8% of their body fat before surgery have better long term outcomes--https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/892400 I imagine these folks also did better with the pre-op diet. I am too new to the sleeve to really comment, but I had to see a nutritionist for 6 months and lose 5% of my weight to get approved for surgery. If I gained anything, I was out. I lost 10%. I also only had a 2 day pre-op diet. And my surgeon said my liver was "beautiful" (thx I guess); he even gave me a picture...ew. The entire two weeks on liquid is cruel! Unless you have a fatty liver, it just seems like overkill. JMO.

    Modesty question

I have always dressed a certain way, regardless of weight - don't like it, don't look. But for the most part most people who have looked liked! Confidence goes a very long way. I think I am the sh*t, therefore I am. With that said, I also dress for my body type. I am an hourglass figure, bordering on pair. Accent the waist, the boobs, the hips. My thighs have always been huge so I have never worn shorts or skirts above the knee. I also have huge arms, so even in the summer they are covered. And frankly, I don't see it changing. I think I am always going to dress the way I do now, only the sizes will change. It might be modesty, but it what I am comfortable with.
  3. Oh, it doesn't matter at all! It just made me smile. Reminds me of one of those FB memes "of course I like my own posts, I'm awesome."
  4. Drinking was a major hurdle for me, much worse than actually eating solids. I am six weeks out and still have bouts of pain when i drink, but I would say that around the three week mark is where I started to see some improvement. And @Matt Z dude, you are going to make me piss myself laughing liking all your own posts!

    Where is everyone from?

Sorry not even close to Minnesota! Native New Yorker.
  7. I am only 6 weeks out, so take what I say with a grain of salt--I am almost always nauseous and it stems directly from GERD triggered by surgery--besides from the occasional burn in the back of the throat, the nausea it the only symptom, and it is a strong and persistent one. I am currently on 40 mg of Pantoprazole and 40 mg of omeprazole and sometimes I still need to pop a tums to get my food down. I am not saying this is your problem, but it is a possibility. I wish you luck and hope you are feeling better soon.
  8. Support at home to be sure! All the gadgets are nice but they don't replace a live person picking up the slack and helping you heal.

    April Sleevers check in!

Sleeved 4/27/18 HW:377 SW: 303 CW: 269 GW: 175 Making steady progress. Honestly I thought weight would be coming off quicker because I was starting so high, and granted I am not spring chicken but I am still in my 30s. Didn’t think my age would factor in yet. Still 34 pound in 6 weeks is decent. Finally having some relief from the chronic nausea after the nutrionist changed my vitamins and took me off the gald bladder meds. Finally getting close to my 64 oz of fluids in. Waiting till I am 8 weeks out to join a gym, until then I walk about 5-6 miles a day.

How much water is too much?

I was told to consume 48-64 ounces right out of the gate. Of course, I couldn't ---still can't most days but 18 ounces is definitely not too much.

    Depressed

I am sorry they are putting you through this. I hope they change their minds, heaven knows I would have been denied if a cannabis test was administered on me!

    I miss straws!

I was told no straws at my pre-op class, and then yesterday at my 5 week follow-up class they said straws are okay again. I am using one now just to try to get more liquid in. Eventually I will just get a cup with a reusable straw.
  13. I don’t think I am going back. 😢 I was told no caffeine for the first few months so switched to decaf but it just tastes funny. Plus I have been having GERD issues since surgery so I think it is in my best interest to give it up. I miss it so much!!

    Biggest challenge in your journey

So far the nausea and heartburn. It is pretty constant. But you have to get on with life and function even if you feel like crap. I am 5 weeks out today and hoping it will subside soon.
  15. An egg & cheese omelet - it was mother’s day breakfast in bed. I got like three bites in.
  16. I came home from the hospital 6 pounds heavier! It’s all the water and swelling. Do yourself a favor and wait 2 weeks before weighing yourself.

    The Numbers Are Adding Up

Congrats on you loss! I will be 5 week tomorrow and I am down 31 pounds, so 6.2 a week. I started much, much higher than you though.

    C section mommies

I had two. The sleeve was much easier. I was sore for less than a week as opposed to a month with the section and numbness in my stomach for a year.

    Don't pray for me

That was me! That was me! Look, I say it in jest, mainly because of how heavy this thread was getting. But you also need to realize how you come off when you say “impossible” and other such things. It’s combative. And in a world full of religious it’s gonna draw ire. It’s frustrating to be sure, navigating a world were your beliefs are in the minority’s. Hence the rant in rant section. But I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes here—- he who angers you conquers you. So if I treat this with a light touch and advise you to say thanks and move on it’s because these people mean you no harm. If they start laying hands on you and preaching, have at ‘em. But a throw away line they probably said to the bagger at the check out with a hangnail ten minutes before they got to you—-eh. Again. Friendly advice from someone that understands Love your avatar btw.

    Don't pray for me

It you start going into anaphylactic shock, I will be sure to pray for you.

    Don't pray for me

Okay, so you're like a militant atheist, huh? I am also an atheist, and I do not get offended when people say they are going to pray for me--I say thank you. I think you need a snickers. Not to make light, because I do cringe at times when folks tell me "god has a plan" and things to those effect, but sometimes you just have to accept people as well-intentioned, even if they are a bit oblivious.

    Do tired of vomiting

That's insane! To echo other's sentiments, try calling your PCP and getting for anti nausea meds. There is no need to suffer needlessly!
  24. Sunday was officially one month since my surgery. I was feeling pretty good, dealing with constipation and some mild nausea, but otherwise active and okay. However the past five days I have regressed, my stomach hurts like the first week after surgery, and this annoying mega-pressure burp thing-happens every time I sip liquid. I was doing the burp thing my first week but I thought it resolved. I have way more nausea and I wake up every morning with my stomach aching. I started taking Nexium once a day, I am taking gas-X, but this malaise persists. And for the last two days I am struggling to get in my liquids and protein. I don't want to over react, call my surgeon and end up with a whole lot of unnecessary tests, so I am wondering if this regression is a common thing? Did anyone else go through this--thinking they were out of the woods only to be pulled back in?
  25. YeahOkay31

    One month regression?

I caved and called the surgeon's office. They said it was par for the course and to call back if the pain got worse. I need to continue with the Nexium. Nice to know this is still in normal recovery range.
