I had my gastric sleeve in April. My hair started falling out in late July. I knew this would be a possibility but I underestimated how bad it would be. When did the hair loss stop for you?? How long did it take for the hair to thicken back to normal? Is there anything I can do in the meantime? I take a daily multivitamin. Anything else? HELP HELP!

Thank you for the responses! I’ll be monitoring my protein intake more closely and I will take biotin supplements in conjunction with my vitamin regime. The hair loss has slowed down. I’m hoping my hair will thicken up over the next several months. I’ll keep everyone updated!

Hair Loss with Sleeve Surgery
Southern Buns replied to Rachel2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
About month 3 is when I started losing hair. I’m frustrated because I have taken my vitamins since before the surgery and I ear a well balanced diet. It’s month 4 and I’m still losing hair. It’s very sad. My hair was so thick and pretty. Now it’s dull and thinner out. I’m hoping it will thicken back up with Time. -
I had gastric sleeve almost 1 month ago. Obviously, the sleeve knows when it’s had enough. However, sometimes after I eat, I spit up and/or burp up some of the food I ate. I have found by slowing down my eating and taking smaller bites helps and eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day helps. My biggest fear is stretching out my sleeve, therefore, I’m trying to avoid eating to the point my sleeve tells me “no.” I feel I should be stopping before. Just curious, when do some of you stop eating? What works? What doesn’t?

I had gastric sleeve almost 1 month ago. I have naturally thick, long, wavy hair. Within the last two days, I started having flakes of skin showing up in my hair. Dandruff I assume? I’ve never had dandruff before. EVER! Has anyone else Experienced this?

13 Days Post-Op and I have lost 14 Pounds
Southern Buns posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow! I am 13 days post-op (gastric sleeve) and I have lost 14 pounds! YES! I was cleared to eat "soft" foods today so I went and bought some chicken salad from a local hot spot that makes it fresh daily! I took 4 VERY SMALL BITES and I am full! It's so weird! I was drinking up to a full cup of liquid per hour and my stomach can only tolerate 4 small bites. Eating out with clients is definitely going to be an issue. I'll have to keep this in mind when I am scheduling lunch appointments. Thank goodness I enjoy soups! I was also cleared for all activities with the exception of lakes and oceans until my incision sites heal. I'm going to start walking for 30 minutes every day this week and then jump into a cardio routine next week. So excited! I can't wait to be in the 170s. BW: 202 SW: 196 CW: 188 HT: 5'4"- 5 replies

Telling family about surgery?

LOL! Why are the husbands NEVER supportive of their wives getting WLS? I have my own theories. -

Gas pains will pass. I was 2 days post op before I passed gas. 3 days post op before I had my first bowel movement. My first night after surgery was not good. I had terrible nausea and dry heaving. Don’t be afraid to ask for nausea meds While you are in the hospital. I even asked for a prescription to take home. I haven’t needed it since night two though. I’m 5 days post op and I feel good.

Telling family about surgery?
Southern Buns replied to b_co's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just had my gastric sleeve done a few days ago. The only people that know are my husband and mama. My mama was the first I discussed the issue with. Her thoughts and feelings were very much aligned with mine. I have a successful marriage, the degrees, the job, the house, the life. I have everything because I worked hard for it. However, my weight has been the bane of my existence. The constant reminder of my one lifelong failure. No matter how hard I tried to lose weight, nothing worked. If your struggle is anything like mine then your mama knows. Nobody knows you and loves you more and has your best interest at heart and wants nothing but happiness for you than mama. Am I right? So talk to your mother about it. You don’t have to fake it with her. Be honest. See if she can be supportive. Either way, she is your biggest advocate. -
I had surgery yesterday. I was sent home today. I have not passed gas since before my surgery. Much less a bowel movement! How long did it take some of you to poot or poop? [emoji51] I’m walking great. I’m following the diet to the T and I’m drinking plenty of fluids! Help!

I am two days post op. My husband and I wish to start having children in two years. I’m afraid what childbearing will mean for my progress. Please, is there anyone who can share their story? Is it possible to keep the weight off? If so, how hard is it?

Sleeved tomorrow

Also, don’t let The nausea scare you. Again, I am two days post op and my nausea went away completely yesterday. I dry heaved and it felt like the world was ending for like a day. Don’t be afraid to ask your nurse for pain meds and anti-nausea meds. Those will be your friends. Just remember, it’s not forever. It will pass in a day or two! -
Sleeved tomorrow

I am 2 days post op. I past gas for the first time since before the surgery today. Pain is bearable with meds which I haven’t had any pain medication since early this morning so that’s another hurdle crossed. I’m anxiously awaiting my first bowel movement. I’ll feel loads better once that happens. I’m not hungry at all. It’s strange. My husband just cooked himself hamburgers and sausage. It smelled fantastic but I wasn’t hungry for it. Bizarre feeling. The food thing is easier than I thought it would be which is a huge relief. I was nervous like you as well. Don’t worry. They will give you good meds and as soon as you pass out, you will be awake asking for more of that feel good medicine. It’ll be over before you know it! -
Vitamins
Southern Buns replied to j.sierra05@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had my surgery 2 days ago. My vitamin regime consists of: chewable prenatal vitamins, and chewable centrum. When I’m able to eat solids again, I will include the other vitamins I was taking pre-op: calcium, vitamin D, and a multivitamin. When I am 6 months post op, I plan to revisit my nutritionist and get blood work to see if I have any deficiencies. -
HELP! I Can’t Pass Gas!
Southern Buns replied to Southern Buns's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel gassy but no gas pains. I’m burping ok. But just haven’t passed gas! I don’t want to have to take any more medicine than what I’ve been prescribed: pain meds, nausea meds, blood thinners, and multivitamins. I would like to give my body as much time to do its thing....but I’m not opposed to giving it a little boost! Lol! -
I had my surgery yesterday. I was sent home today. I packed one pair of yoga pants, a t-shirt, socks and a toothbrush. It was more than enough. PACK LIGHT! The yoga pants were ok for me however, I probably should have packed something a little bit more loose fitting. Keep that in mind. You don’t want anything hugging your incision sites.
