    Hardest Part (outside of eating)

Still being hungry when I was told by all the professionals "you won't feel hungry anymore". It's like a nagging aunt, but I don't give in and like above, I try to keep to a meal/snack schedule and I plan MY meals out but the family meals too. going out of social situations are hard now. With people i know it's not a big deal but maybe I wanted to save my food and they just eat it, or I'm at a party and there's nothing that I've tried yet I panic, because lately my stomach has hated two or three (or more!) Things per week and I run to the bathroom. I'm scared that's going to happen. I do bring my own emergency stuff though and hide it in a coffee cup. Nasty or snarky comments from peop!e I kinda know I am not fond of. I'm 11 weeks and 52 pounds down so I'm noticeable

    Liquid pre-op diet

@mandmom the liquid diet sucks, I bet we all will admit that. BUT it sucks for 2-4 days, you'll lose anywhere from 5-20 pounds (possibly, I lost 17) . It makes your surgery SO much safer so your surgeon can maneuver around your less fatty liver, and personally I think it helps prepare you for the next stages post-op. Most likely you'll be on clear fluids for a few days, then a diet very similar to your liquid diet for a few weeks and then hopefully progress slowly from there. All surgeons are different, but I feel like if you can get through the pre-op diet you'll rule the world because I don't care what anyone says, every single day after WLS is an adventure.

    GERD

I have gerd from one of the medications i take I'm on prilosec? Omeprozole? For it. But I had the sleeve, it's not worse unless I eat super acidic foods, but they've doubled my dose because I'm one of the lucky few that experience hunger all the time after surgery when the grhelin is supposed to be gone, so extra acid reducers may help with hunger. I'm sorry for your gerd. I heard it gets better with your type of surgery .

    Hair loss

Hopefully the veterans will weigh in, but I'm 3 months out and my hair is starting to fall out (slightly). EVERYONE has their remedy, but I believe if you keep up on your protein, like keep your numbers high it's not so bad. They've done research on biotin, no significant difference, keep up with your regular vitamins and routines and eventually it evens out and grows back. Some people use nioxin shampoos, I personally don't like it, I like Monat, it's natural but more expensive. I've heard people wearing wigs (extreme) I've dealt with hair loss before so I just trim it into a cute cut, it's just hair afterall.

Ladies! I'll let you in on a little secret!

Exactly. That's why L.L.Bean stopped their return policy. People abuse things, I bought a camelback water bottle and it leaked and grew mold so I did email them and sent pictures, got a new one.

    Scared abd Undecided

I agree with Nibble, IF you have a PCP you like and trust, if not I would talk to someone else or get a referral and go to the informational session. I had a great PCP that was totally on board with me, but I wasn't ready yet and my PCP retired and I got a new one and she was not helpful or comforting. Thankfully I found another one. People here are really helpful too. I can tell you that in my experience I was nervous and took me awhile to make a decision but it was a really good one.
  9. @RickM everything is a fad it seems. I became interested in keto but I don't jump into things willy nilly. It took me over four years to finally decide on this surgery even though my mother had it almost 13 years ago. The gluten free craze is driving me nuts, but I'm a hypocrite because I've never been tested and I don't do gluten, but when I do eat gluten my arthritis in my hands and jaw KILL me, plus why eat bread or pasta when you only have 3 ounces to work with? I know there's gluten in everything, my sister in law has celiac's. I think people think ketosis is also easier than it is to achieve, it's harder that some may think. My goal or just way of eating is just high protein, little carbs and mainly only complex carbs, no gluten, very little sugar. Nothing processed anymore. I'm halfway to my bachelors degree, I've decided to switch my major to good science/nutrition which I took some of when I was "young" lol! Maybe I will finish before I'm 50.

Ladies! I'll let you in on a little secret!

I've never returned anything to Kohls, there's not one even near me, but I have seen their policy. I think I'd only use the policy if I had bought something and it ripped open after one wash, etc, you know, like how L.L. Bean used to be. If I buy something that's bad quality you're sure as shooting im getting my money back, I'm poor af!
  12. Ummm if I dropped almost 3 sizes in less than 2 months, you'll be WAY smaller than a 2X girl! You'll be in the misses section! I cried when I put on a size 20. My butt has yet to get the memo but I've gone one size down. I can't wait to say goodbye to the plus size section for good!

Ladies! I'll let you in on a little secret!

Kohls will take ANYTHING back, tags or not, even if you've washed and worn it, even if you've had it for a year! No receipt! They also let you stack up to FIVE coupons! (I'm a coupon person, I even teach coupon/savings classes here and have a Facebook group) Goodwill here is super expensive but it's far away and in a big money town and I've had the worst luck with my local TJMaxx, maybe they're just b*****s at that one.

    Hormonal imbalances after surgery?

I have, I made a post above about never-ending period. I guess I have some sort of hormonal imbalance pre-surgery and was put was put on birth control for it, because i had midcycle bleeding or super long periods. The birth control worked (I'm 38 and had a tubal btw) but lost up my mid cycle sporting is back, but I'm only 10 weeks out and I was told my clinic's nurse that stress from surgery can do that. I will see my doctor soon in a month or so if it continues, luckily i live in a rural area so it takes me a week or less to get in to see her.
  15. That's how I felt. And after you have surgery it is just eating to live, and remember you said that lol! It's definitely a transition, I'm 10 weeks out, everyday is still an adventure. I'm so glad I made this decision even though it's not just a surgery and eating little bites, but you sound ready and that's (in my opinion) is one of the most important parts. After 12 weeks (my clinic counts your weight loss from your 2 week liquid diet on) I'm down 49 pounds. Went into the hospital in a 3XL too and today I'm wearing an XL. It will be an adventure for you, but awesome!

    What should I be expecting

Lol me too! I'm not good at making grunting noises while lifting weights yet.

Can I have a half glass of Wine with a steak

My surgeon said no alcohol for 6 months. There's a 4th of July party, I really want a glass of wine, I'm 3 months out then, I'm toying with it but I'll probably behave. I was warned by other veteran WLS people that IF you decide to drink in public, try one at home first, you never know how it will effect you.
  18. magpie26

    What should I be expecting

@sillykitty how's your exercise routine? I need to figure that part out.
  19. Make sure you don't cheat on your pre-op liquid diet, your surgeon will know lol! I had McDonald's my last meal, I don't even really like McDonald's but I panicked didnt know what to get and I liked the fries, I should've had burger king (which I don't like that much either) but I had to start my liquid diet the following morning and I had my Boston cream donuts before. I cheated kinda with my pre op diet and had a bagel and threw myself out of ketosis

    Stomach Mating Call

Mine makes tons of noises too, and when it I think it's done it leaves with a belch.

one week post op weight stall

Like the others said, don't worry, your body is like WTH?! It takes some people longer to lose, or there can be a "dreaded 3 week stall" it happened to me at like 2.5 weeks, I've had 2 stalls in my 10 weeks out. I put my scale away and weigh myself once a week, if I have self control. I gained 10 pounds when I came back from the hospital. I'm now 10 weeks out and 49 pounds down (my clinic counts the 2 weeks of your pre-op diet, so technically 12 weeks) All of you new post op and soon to be post op will be fine. If you search here you will see people concerned about this probably once or twice a week. I know I did.

    Anyone else HATE Protein Water?

Hate it! When I first tried it when I came home from the hospital it tasted like garlic to me, totally weird and probably insane.
  23. magpie26

Numbness in left side of left thigh

I had numbness in my hands and feet, I called my clinic they said I was too early for vitamin deficiency so they said most likely dehydration, I got a lot more fluids and that helped tremendously.
  24. Keto is (was) not a fad diet. It's effective for children and some adults with seizures and other health issues. People assume it is a fad, all the new low carb diets are based on it. My nutritionist said if you wanted to do keto at stage 4 it's fine, but I'm not keen on giving up dairy and I'm growing green beans lol!
  25. magpie26

    Low Energy week

I was sleeved the day before you! Sadly, I still have hunger so I don't have that "I don't feel hungry problem" I actually feel hungry a bit but I keep it in track. My nutritionist has me eat 70+ protein daily, 48+ ounces (probably way more at this point) per day. Water is hard for me. I try to get at least 800 calories a day, my surgeon just told me I should to probably eat more now. I guess my point is, I was feeling pretty good but recently I'm feeling more tired, I guess it depends on the day. But if I eat more I feel a little better and drink too, if I eat carbs I feel like crap, I hadn't been eating any kind of simp!e carb. so I agree with others and think you should try to eat more calories which I know is hard in general and also when you're not hungry. But I know how you feel.
