  1. @Coachthex32 I agree, I am actually saving my workout video stuff for the winter. I hated to exercise, but I've started to walk (faster and faster now) and now I walk 4-6 miles usually everyday, at least 5 days a week. it will get snowy soon up here in VT so I'm walking until it gets too yucky. Easiest, cheap, free (except for good sneakers and good ear buds) I'm actually enjoying it now. But, Body Groove is really fun, not all stiff and structured

Post op pain - be honest

Yes, everyone's pain threshold is different. Mine is usually super high, I used my pain meds post up and actually got refilled. My pain was not good the first few days, gas pain was ok the burping annoyed me, I walked, probably not enough. Getting in and out of bed was the bad thing for me, after a few days I used my meds mostly at the end of the day. I couldn't really drive for about 3 weeks without pain. Most people I've met barely had any pain, I had some for about a week and a half.

    6 days post op gurgle

@frust8 congrats! I've been here for 5 months and have seen you in the board all the time. I'm so glad you finally got your surgery!
  4. I think mine was about 2-3 a week after the first big loss. I am currently in a stall, only down a pound in 4-6 weeks, I can't remember because I am just pushing through. Down a total of 70 in 5 months.

    6 days post op gurgle

In a few days, you'll laugh at this because hopefully it won't hurt anymore but it will probably make weird noises. The sounds your stomach will make. I'm five months out and it doesn't happen often anymore but the other day I was at my PCP's office and I was sitting there and it was talking away.
  6. @DixieD oh geez! I didn't even pay attention to your type of surgery, that's one i don't know enough about. I had the sleeve, pretty basic, right? But I feel hungry all the time, someone suggested tums (maybe it was that chick up there lol!) those sort of help. I don't do shakes and I try to stay away from bars like fluffy said. I eat basic too and I'm not afraid of fat, I don't follow keto or Paleo but do my own thing. I eat a lot of yogurt, cheeses, nuts and I'll indulge and have REAL bacon with my one egg. I know you have absorption issues with your surgery but my nut said and I've seen some articles that say over 100 grams of protein is pointless because we pee it all out, the extra i mean. I don't know, I feel the being hungry thing, and I am not supposed to be hungry according to what everything said about the sleeve. I just drink water, or Crystal light or decaf tea and I have struggles with fluid off and on too. It seriously feels like it's a job to.drink water, I loved it before, now it's a chore. My doctor also upped my PPI dose too. I'm going to.educate myself on your surgery though because i.Don't know enough about it and I feel like i.should know what my WLS brothers and sisters go through

    One day post op

I had a JP drain, my surgeon had me have it for a week. It annoyed me more than anything but the lower right incision pain was the kicker for me. I was cleared to swallow pills as soon as I got home. Every day gets easier and better. Maybe you'll be like me.and cry in the department store when you.find out that 3XL you wore is now an XL and not plus sized! Welcome to your new life
  8. Ok I'm only 5 months out, not a vet, but I have 4 family members/ friends who are. I think 2200 calories are too many unless you're exercising a lot. Do you take a PPI? Are you drinking lots of water still? From day 1 I've been hungry but I think my restriction is more than yours ? I also take extra antacids if I feel starving but I workout and burn probably 700-900 calories per session. I've seen vets say they maintain at maybe 1800? I'm not an expert but the "average" diet , I think the one they base everything on is 2000 calories.
  9. I've been walking a lot more lately and my ankles turn into cankles and my fingers turn into sausages and I can't my wedding ring that is generally super loose on me off. I've been drinking tons of water! Why does exercise cause edema? I used to get it when I drank wine but sheesh. Anyone else have this problem?

    5 Month Surgiversary

WOW!! Congratulations! Technically weeks wise I just had my 5 month but if.you go by day of the month I'm 4 days away. I've only (haha only!) Lost 70. I've learned not to compare weight loss totals after my roommate from my surgery told me she had lost 87 when I had "only" lost 66. I am so thrilled for you!!!

    Exercise edema?

My PCP really is not helpful, I'm looking for a new one, she never listens to me, I get better advice from my chiropractor. But since edema runs in my family I'm not surprised but I've asked and they don't get it from exercise. It's not the humidity though because it's been cool/cold when I've been out exercising lately.

    Exercise edema?

Sorry, CRAZY week! That's the thing, VERY low blood pressure, like today it was 88/44. I talked to my other doctor and Dr. Google and low blood pressure can definitely cause it too. I've been wearing those pressure stocking things. I'll just keep drinking water, elevating and watching my salt intake. So annoying.

    Losing while eating???

I had a three week stall, and I think an 8 week stall (both fairly short) and now I'm in my worst one I have ever had, those other ones were annoying but this one is what the vets talk about. It totally happens, we do everything right and they happen. Don't worry, your body will get used to this and everything will be fine.

    Exercise edema?

I watch my salts. I physically can't fit 128 ounces and be able to eat during the day. I think the past few days I've gotten about 90 in. I try to wait the 30 mins after eating and then start drinking again but I feel super full/sick if I don't wait about an hour or so. The doc said this can be hereditary as my grandmother had really horrible edema all the time, but this is only when I exercise and gets worse the harder or longer I go. I've been increasing my walking from 4 miles to 6 miles but it has been humid here in New England lately.

    Favorite Stuff

Water bottle! 24-32 oz. I had a contigo but it kept leaking and growing mold and while they have a warranty, they make you jump through hoops and won't do anything unless you harass them. So I use Camelback, bubba or another stainless steel one that I forgot the name of. my fitbit is always charged and on my wrist. I love Bariastic. Good shoes, comfortable workout pants with pockets and wireless headphones for when you can really kick it up a notch.
  16. Body Groove- it's actually fun
  17. My doctor gave me.Some ODT meds which made me throw up, so I just swallowed all my pills whole, my surgeon said it was ok.
  18. So what's a non-scale victory for you? I guess at 10 weeks out I'm still new with my sleeve, but I could FINALLY wear my bra without my bra extenders! I don't think that's happened in 8 years! I can also wear my engagement ring!
  19. magpie26

    2 pounds?

Oh and I do have and use a tape measure to do my measurements. I'm kicking myself for not doing them pre-surgery but I started maybe a few weeks after and use my Baritastic app.
  20. I've asked, I've listened, I've given kind words to "newbies" with similar frustrations and I've seen people be mean to others about this. BUT, I'm close to 5 months, I guess I'm not technically stalled, although the past week I haven't lost anything, but when I look at my numbers for say, August, it looks like I've lost 2 pounds (maybe) a week. Is this normal? Now I seriously saw someone get pissed off and leave a forum because she couldn't deal with people worrying about their weight. I had this surgery and I'm using as the tool as it is intended to be. Recently I have upped my water a lot, I now walk very briskly 4+ miles a day plus yoga and strength training (I'm starting out) I've tried upping my protein, my carbs, lowering my carbs, upping my calories, lowering them, watching salt, all the things I've seen people give out as advice over and over again. Scale goes up and stays the same, YES put it away! I have issues, I'm working with a therapist. I step on it because I'm working so hard but yes, it's not daily like before. So I need advice, not shaming. Five months out, what was your experience? What did you do? Or is this just what I deal with now? I'm not happy at this weight loss yet. SW- 292.9 CW-224.4 basically 69 pounds lost. If you go by my surgery date it was 4/17. But I'm 20 weeks post op Tuesday. Love any insights.

    2 pounds?

Thanks everyone. I guess I didn't lose super fast anyway, I'm not that concerned, well I suppose a little. I'm just scared it will abruptly stop. A lady in my support group just stopped losing and does (to my knowledge) what she's supposed to do. That scares me, but I have seen the posts that people start slowing down. I'm wondering if burning 600-800 calories per day is doing something with eating 1000 or less but lately around 1000. Not a fan of exercise, but I've been enjoying my walks along the lake and Vermont gets so beautiful in the fall. And yes, 70 pounds is a lot! I can totally see the newest version of myself and I can also feel it. I'm very glad I did this I'm just really hoping I can be closer to 200 by mid-end of October when my six month follow up is, especially with my nutritionist lol! She's the tough one!

    2 pounds?

I've only been really amping up my exercise for a few weeks and just started the strength stuff and that I still very minimal. All of my clothes are fitting fine and I did my measurements but I can't tell much from those because it's been maybe six weeks since I did them last, but I have lost inches. I think I lost 5 inches in 6 weeks.
  23. And if you aren't already, I'd suggest using Baritastic app. Keep track of your food and water intake so you can see what works and what may make you gain etc. I like it better than my fitness pal
  24. @DB25rny sorry it's been a crazy week! I'm not sure what my calories were, I swear I'd have to do a spreadsheet lol! It's like all of the sudden I'm just standing still. I mean I'm losing but slowly, way slower than I like. If you eat too little your body will slow your weight loss. I think 800 was a magic number for me, I think I started adding nuts in but that depends on your nutritionist. I'm eating probably 1000 calories now and I'm stalled now, kinda, but I'm also exercising a lot and burn about 650 in the morning which is SO good for our depression as we all know but it's such a vicious cycle. I have bipolar depression so I too have been on meds for so long, but wasn't properly diagnosed until 8 years ago. Lithium sucks, it's a go to wonder drug. But it is a weight gain trap. So is depekote. I just saw another that is less weight gaining in my psych book, if I find it I'll let you know
