New struggles
Orchids&Dragons replied to Bigman12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not to that point yet with my surgery, but it sounds like you continue to eat out of pleasure or habit. (Habit is bad, pleasure is human ). There are a few tricks to help beat the habit. Most of these are from my old WW days. If you're at a restaurant, ask for a to-go box at the start and put your "leftovers" in it before you start eating. Out-of-sight, out-of-mind. Do not go back into the box at the restaurant. If you're out with others and don't want to go the "box" route, once you've eaten enough, surreptitiously over-salt what's left on your plate so that it's inedible. That will stop you from picking at the food while the conversation goes on or while others continue to eat. If you're eating at home: Do NOT put serving bowls on the table. Serve from the stove, use a small plate and don't go back. After you eat your plateful, go brush your teeth. Food tastes terrible after you brush your teeth. Find some sort of ritual to formally "end" your meal. It can be a small dessert, a cigarette (if you smoke), etc. It has to be something you look forward to. I'm sure others will have more suggestions (which I will be following), but I hope this helps! And congrats on your success so far! -

My doctor only focused on protein and fluids at that point. He didn't even mention calories. -

I take multivitamins, Citracal (not at same time), magnesium (leg cramps), biotin (hair), sublingual B12, probiotics (occasionally when I think about it) and Regular Girl Prebiotic Fiber & Probiotic Blend, recommended by my NUT for regularity. -

I don't know if it's that or just a very acid stomach. -

One of my twins cooked fried chicken and fried okra with coleslaw for dinner last night - all homemade. Is it possible to love somebody and hate them at the same time? I did eat one chicken nugget. It was delish. -

I chase the pleasure, not the full feeling. I realized after surgery that I may never in my life have felt true hunger. I didn't realize it at the time, but I think I've always had a ton of acid in my stomach, so when my stomach hurt, I fed it. My dad did the same thing. To go with that, I've never felt really "full", either. Not even holidays like Thanksgiving. I generally ate until I was too embarrassed to get any more and enjoyed the last bite as much as the first. But I never felt stuffed, ever. Now I get the post-surgery "stuffed" feeling occasionally, but that translates to "I want to throw up". I don't think it's what "full" feels like normally, but then I don't know.
