Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread
Orchids&Dragons replied to sideeye's topic in The Lounge
On most of my dieting adventures, this one included, I always got stuck for a while at a former "maintenance" weight. Since you've maintained at 170 before, your body is probably just thinking it's done. But, if you stay below the maintenance calories, eventually it will have to move. -
Apparently, we're married to the same man!

How is this even possible?
Orchids&Dragons replied to sher0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will be ok. You're still very swollen and maybe retaining fluids because of that. All of a sudden you'll probably experience a huge whoosh! I know being patient is hard. We all want to see that scale move. Some doctors advise against weighing at all for the first month because it can be so discouraging. Keep your chin up, you'll get there! -
Congratulations, you're doing amazing! All your hard work over the last year really shows!

Great, thank you! Do you need to chill the dough long before you roll it out? Are you sure about the salt? An ounce seems like an awful lot. -

Getting closer to a decision
Orchids&Dragons replied to Zemi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think you're handling this correctly. None of the weight-loss tools work long-term if your head isn't in the game. Some don't even work short-term. Too many people find out that they can continue to sabotage themselves if they don't get their bad behaviors under control. For every wls, there is a way to "cheat" it. If you have lost weight, multiple times, over the past 40 years and then regained, I think you've answered the dietician's question. If you can lose the weight you want, then sure, you probably don't need the surgery. Personally, I don't think anyone should do anything as drastic as have part of their insides removed if they haven't already tried to lose and maintain first. Life-changing surgeries should never be the first option tried, imo. But it doesn't sound like this is some flippant, casual decision. You've been mulling this over for a long time. -
8 weeks in and only lost 11kgs :(
Orchids&Dragons replied to May Hem 143's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Since you started at a much lower weight than most, you just don't have much to lose. The odds are that it will come off more slowly, but you will get there. Don't compare yourself to someone else who's hauling around an extra 50kgs of fat. Of course, they're burning more calories. Their weight loss will likely slow down when they get to your weight. Be patient, it will happen! -
Quite a few people have mentioned sleeping in a recliner for a while. I had to sleep on a wedge for about a week. So, yes, it's common. You just have to find out what you can do to get comfortable. Good luck!

I'm so sorry about your son. I can't imagine your pain. I think you really need to work with a counselor to sort out your feelings. None of these surgeries work if your head isn't in the game. Please check in and let us know how you're doing.
