Nervous and Excited!!
Orchids&Dragons replied to NewJourney89's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Welcome and best wishes on your journey! When the nerves kick in, focus not on the difficulties in the beginning but on your long term goals and know that you can get through anything temporarily to achieve a better life in the long run. -
After I got down to goal weight, I thought it would be ok to drink on weekends. I was aware of the higher risk of alcoholism after WLS, but not that there was any increased risk of damage to your liver or anything. Now there's this: https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/addiction/news/20190620/drug_alcohol_deaths_soar_after_weight-loss_surgery#1 What a bummer! Oh well, one more reason to avoid empty calories. I tracked down the original article. It turns out most of the reported deaths were from drug overdoses rather than alcohol. They also didn't delve into causation vs. correlation. Big title, but not much real information. If you're interested: https://www.soard.org/article/S1550-7289(19)30143-1/fulltext

Your body really needs that water to convert fat into energy.

Yes, your weight will fluctuate wildly in the beginning. It's ok. Good luck!

Until my 1 week followup with my surgeon.

Told today No Bypass must be sleeve
Orchids&Dragons replied to Draven298's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As with another poster above, I have a bypass but do not dump. Ever. So, you were counting on something that may or may not happen. You can be very successful with either procedure. The most important factor for success after wls is your brain, not your stomach. -
I had my Gastric Bypass reversed 😞

Started on The Carnivore Diet

@GradyCat Just 'cause I'm curious - If you're eating 0 carbs, are you ever gonna poop? Seems like you need some type of fiber, just because! -
Restaurant discounts with our weight-loss card
Orchids&Dragons replied to Everything's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you! I thought it was only good for children's meals and I'm not a big fan of chicken nuggets. I didn't realize you could just get a smaller portion. -
I am not defending the charts, just providing information on how "ideal weight" is calculated. I have no interest in getting to my ideal weight (130)
-
-
The "ideal weight" calculation is 100 + 5 pounds for every inch over 5'0", so you would be 100+35=135.

My eldest son was able to donate marrow to a child at our local children's hospital about a year ago. I was so proud of him and hope the child is doing well.

Getting Sleeve Done in Two Weeks
Orchids&Dragons replied to Matthew2045's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The pre-op diet is rough, no denying it. You really need to power through and focus on the long-term goals. Even if you struggle with the liquids, try to pack them down. It helps to calm your hunger. Also, try chewing on sf popsicles or frozen protein drinks. They (at least) make you feel like you're eating. Good luck! -
Sorry but another questions.
Orchids&Dragons replied to BecomingMeMissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the beginning, your weight can fluctuate wildly. Some doctors tell their patients not to weigh for the first month because it can be so distressing. Just stay the course and know that your weight on any individual day will not control the rest of your life. You'll be successful if you keep on like you are. Just give yourself some breathing room. It'll be ok. -
Chewing up a Tums won't hurt you for occasional heartburn. Just don't count on it as a source of calcium.
