Confessional - Lets post our cheats/confessions/etc so others can see that we are all human
Orchids&Dragons replied to Matt Z's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I make cheesecake (NY style) most holidays. As cakes go, it's higher in fat and protein, but lower in sugar than most, depending on the type of crust and the toppings, of course. That may have affected whether or not you experienced dumping. -
Congrats! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Mine has been falling out like crazy for about 8 weeks. Fortunately, I started with enough hair for about 3 people, but now I'm on the not-quite-enough hair for one phase. My hubby was foolish enough to come up behind me a few days ago and comment "Wow, your hair is really getting thin!" Hope he wasn't hoping for a "cuddle" anytime soon!

How do you do 30/30 week 1?
Orchids&Dragons replied to Laura7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor did not have us start that until soft foods. Right now, they want you drinking pretty much all day. But follow what your doc advises. -

This confession carries over from another thread . . . One of my sons made peach cobbler last night and I just couldn't resist. I did control the portion size by using a small bowl and I used sf cool whip instead of ice cream, but still Today's another day. -

Oh, I bumpted into the cobbler all right! And not into the trash Oh, well, today's a new day - off to add my sins to the confession thread! -
OK, I was craving bariatric-friendly Mexican food this week and couldn't find a recipe that grabbed me, so I made this one up. Obviously, you can vary the seasoning/spiciness to taste. This isn't too spicy because I can't handle that right now. Hope you enjoy it!

How do I eat healthy when my family doesn't?
Orchids&Dragons replied to luckyducky's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My son just made a sausage/chicken/potato bake for dinner and baked a peach cobbler for dessert. I ate my chicken enchilada soup while their dinner was still cooking so I won't be so tempted! -

Oh, man! Your face has changed so much! That's awesome! -
Are you getting all your fluids? That's really important, more important than the protein at this point.

The third-week stall is absolutely infamous. Just be patient. You're not doing anything wrong. It is discouraging, but totally normal.

I think it's easier for us to avoid temptation in the early stages because we just can't handle it anyway, plus we're in the "excited to get started" phase. Once you get back to feeling "normal", resisting temptation will be all on you. While it would be nice to get a lot of support, it just doesn't happen with other adults in the house unless they want/need to lose weight, too. -

Ok, all, I realize that geography is hard, but come on - Mississippi is on the Gulf Coast. It has waves and palm trees and it is definitely not in the Midwest! I'm still fine with going to California, but just had to pitch my 2 cents in -
Breakfast, 30/30 and Morning Coffee??
Orchids&Dragons replied to Gundy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you have your several cups of decaf with high-protein milk instead of the almond milk, you can "eat" and drink at the same time. Or, if you have a shake for breakfast, most of us don't do 30-30 between various liquids. -
Reduced food following WLS

Yup! Some things you've just got to experience for yourself! -
Just multiply the kg by 2.2. 167 x 2.2 = 367.4 Not a hard conversion to remember. Don't worry about lots of decimal places. This is plenty close enough. Sorry her typo put you in such a sad place.

How do I eat healthy when my family doesn't?
Orchids&Dragons replied to luckyducky's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think the eating at different times works well. I live with my husband and 3 grown sons. The boys do most of the cooking. Rather than watch them eat dinner, I make something for my dinner as soon as I get home from work. I'm already done and full by the time they put food on the table. I'm still working on getting them to put food out of reach. As far as I'm concerned, they can have the top shelf of every cabinet. They're all at least 6'1", I'm 5'6". Unfortunately, they still leave a lot on the counters. UGH! It's all still a work in progress. -

@FluffyChix Wow, you're only 20 lbs to goal! Congrats! -
If you're on regular foods diet stage, do you observe the 30-30-30 (or 20-20-20) rule when some of your meals are liquid? i.e. You have some meals of solid foods, but also have a shake for breakfast. Do you not drink for 30-minutes either side of the shake meal? I'm asking because I'm good about real "mealtimes" but if I drink a Protein water on my way into work, I tend to immediately make a cup of tea when it's gone. So, I was wondering if I need to set my timer after the Protein water.
