    Body Temperature Increase

I get it. I think it's our metabolism kicking up to digest food.

    Nausea after eating

When this happens, try a Tums. Sometimes our acid jets turn on full speed into our tiny little stomachs. For me it can start just as soon as the food hits the stomach. Are you on a PPI? I am and still need the Tums sometimes.

    WHY?

I think we've seen enough posts to know the answer to that one.

    WHY?

In general, we don't know what other people's needs are. We certainly don't know if they were up-front with their surgeon. And we've seen how many people on this site are in complete denial of their own situations. I think it's perfectly normal to want to do the least invasive option available that will suit your needs, but that requires the patient being brutally honest with him/herself and with the doctor.

Prayer! If you do not believe in prayer, do not click on this post..

I'd be happy to be on your prayer list and you're welcome to join mine! You really don't need to take the prayers off site. I had no objections to this post.

    Nutrient deficiency

The problem is, nobody posts saying "No problems here". If it's worth posting about, it's probably something they're struggling with. So, the problems look more numerous than they are. Also, FYI, this is a bigger problem with bypass than sleeve, due to malabsorption issues.
  7. Absolutely. However, I haven't gone on any interviews since surgery so I can't compare. I'm curious to see what others say. I do know that I would feel a lot more confident if I looked better and wasn't sweating!

Did surgery change your food preferences?

The only innocents are the sweet, little gherkins. The rest are monsters!
  13. I accidentally made 5 (I know ) duplicate posts on this thread. Is it possible to have them deleted? They are marked as dups. Sorry.

    Food Before and After Photos

I love 'em! Just put 3 portions of fish tacos (just the insides) in the freezer, and one in the fridge for tonight. I don't know how they'll freeze, but, we'll see . . . (The fish wasn't filet-style, it was all mashed with the veggies, so very soft) And, of course, with my 3 grown sons at home, if I can't eat it, they will!

Did surgery change your food preferences?

Not me. Still like them all. I still love spicy, but it burns all the way down due to reflux. So, I've had to transition to milder foods.

    Lesson learned

I totally get what you're saying. I think you did really well. You've found out that if you skip the beer, you and hubby can still enjoy your Road House date nights and you can stay on your eating plan. It was a good learning experience.
  19. My experience was almost identical to @ChaosUnlimited's except for the nurse phone calls. I thought our therapist and nutritionist were excellent and well-versed with bariatric issues. So, like Chaos, I thought I was well-prepared for what came after surgery. Yes, I wanted surgery sooner, but I think I benefitted from the delay.

    Pity Party - WAAAAAAAH!

Thanks! You're the first person I've heard of with a similar problem!

    Pity Party - WAAAAAAAH!

I am in the mood for a grade-A pity party and you're all invited! Some of you know that I'm 3.5 months post-op and got cleared for solid foods at 6 weeks. My formerly cast-iron stomach is now made of blown glass (thanks for the visual, @Frustr8) and can't tolerate much of anything, especially anything that looks or feels like solid food. I decided a couple of weeks ago to give up on solids for now and stick with mushy foods, like soups and yogurt. I thought I'd try solids again in July. About 3 weeks ago my surgeon sent me to get an upper GI done to see if he could figure out why I was having so much trouble with solids. I had a follow-up with him yesterday to discuss the results. My esophogus doesn't work! I've never even heard of that! Apparently, the muscles in your esophogus are supposed to contract in a coordinated, rhythmic pattern to push and guide food down to your stomach. Instead of getting coordinated ballroom dancers, my muscles are more like the lanky guy that looks like a spider on a hot plate. The muscles just randomly contract all over the place and do nothing to help the food get to the stomach. So, when I've felt like the food was backed up to the back of my throat, it really was. That was why I was miserable for 2 hours after eating anything solid. My esophogus "tube" literally got stuffed and didn't empty. I've also got severe acid reflux which he thinks can make the esophogus even worse, besides the possibility of acid erosion and increased chances of esophogeal cancer. So for now, he told me to stick with mushy foods until I see him again in September. At that point, he'll run some more tests and decide if I need a sleeve-to-bypass conversion. It wouldn't help the esophogus muscle contractions per se, but by lessening the chances of acid erosion it would keep the esophogus from getting any worse. He doesn't know when or if I will ever be able to handle real, solid foods like beef or chicken. Fortunately, I can eat ground meats if they are in a liquid, but absolutely nothing without liquid. Fish is fine since it was always on the mushy-food list, but 1 oz. max. And, absolutely no breads, rice, etc. as they would be easily stuck. I guess I never noticed the problem because I always drank so much with meals that I would just wash the food down. The doc doesn't want me doing that though, probably because that makes it so much easier to overeat. Anyway, he says he's never seen anything like this in the thousands of surgeries that he's performed. Lucky me! WAAAAAAH! OK, rant over. Feeling better now Thanks for "listening"!

  24. I love their recipes and the fact that they include the nutritional info. I don't have a recipe box yet, but I guess I'll start one. Thanks for sharing!
