Vsg journeys on social media
Bryn910 replied to ChynaDollMUA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love YouTube journey Vlogs. I want to make them but I don’t feel so keen on introducing the whole world to myself lol. I wish I were brave enough -
I did this as well. I didn’t purchase much besides smaller plates/bowls. I am having a revision (vsg to rny) and having smaller dishes helped me eating smaller portions. Also just stocked up on protein drinks i also purchased mederma, it’s a scar cream to help lighten a scar. It’s for vanity purposes but my scars tend to get pretty dark. I am curious to see others responses as well

Primary Care Doctor Giving Mixed Messages - Feeling Discouraged
Bryn910 replied to Jill8008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sorry your doc is being a jerk about this. Your PCP should have your best interest in mind. my PCP was the same until I broke down and told her she needs to give me the referral. I told her all my worries about my future and my abilities to get pregnant and she did have me the referral. Try to work with your surgeon and see if there is anyway to have another healthcare professional oversee your diet/weight loss program. During my first one for my sleeve surger, I had an athletic trainer follow me. They took my vitals, gave me exercise programs and I had to see them 2 times a week for 6 months. And yes it was covered by my insurance. Best of luck to you and your journey! Keep us updated -
During my endoscopy I was all the way knocked out and got undressed from the waist up. Simple procedure for most

Revision from Sleeve to Gastric Bypass due to Acid Reflux
Bryn910 replied to E. Diddy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had minor GERD before the sleeve, wasn’t anything to complain about or take antacid’s really, once in a blue moon. but after the sleeve it has progressively gotten worse. I started to really notice about 2 years after the sleeve and now I am on prescription meds from my surgeon and over the counter antacids. Thankfully I don’t have any ulcers or problems (had an upper GI and endoscopy). -

Revision from Sleeve to Gastric Bypass due to Acid Reflux
Bryn910 replied to E. Diddy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My surgery for a revision for sleeve to RNY is in 3.5 weeks and my reasons are for severe GERD & regain -
Like Boston states above...people generally comment/post about negative issues and problems. Kind of like giving reviews at a restaurant etc. the regret/fear may be normal, heck, I haven’t had my rny yet (due to in 3.5 weeks) but sometimes I think, “what am I doing?!” But I have read where people have complications but fight through them and end up doing well and they don’t regret their decisions still. Continue doing great! You got this.

Honestly, I find that doing some form of a carb up every few weeks breaks a stall.

canceled surgery 3 times
Bryn910 replied to connie123lok's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may see it being as everyone doing their jobs but it is added stress for the doctor, insurance companies and other employees involved. If you canceled this surgery 4 times, why have you not seeked therapeautic help for your food issues? YOU have to want this, and it’s obvious you don’t want it. For real though, you’re young enough to change your life now or later. Cancel the surgery, explain to your doctor the way you feel. Ask him for a referral to a therapist that specializes in food addictions, and spend a year in therapy (or more if needed). If you had this surgery in 2 years, you may be in a better place mentally. i hope you find what you are looking for -
you Should definitely do the shoulder first and let that heal until you get some good range of motion in the shoulder once again. Only because you’re gonna need that shoulder to pull up pants, shower, etc after you have your WLS. And things can get tricky in that dept. when you have decreased range of motion. I would also suspect you’re going to get physical therapy for the shoulder afterwards. And that can involve some tricky body maneuvering. Whether you’re laying on your belly, or bending over at your hip for doing shoulder exercises. You should feel fine after 6 weeks once your shoulder heal. Six weeks really isn’t that long to wait. And doing both at the same time will compromise either surgery really for some of the reasons stated above...if you can’t lay on your belly then you can’t do shoulder exercises or you can’t bed at the hip cause you may still have incision pain, etc. oh, and I am a physical therapist lol

Aah, I forgot you’re in the UK... i still don’t believe it has to do with costs in all honesty. Wish I had some Info to produce/articles. But I am just going off what I have heard personally from doctors
-
I don’t think it has to do with costs. If it were due to costs, they’d still do them because wouldn’t you want your patient coming back for more appointments & getting filled/Unfilled? Anyhow, I have sat in on many informational classes by bariatric surgeons and they no longer do bands because the risks outweigh the benefits. Too many erosions, slips, etc.

When is it appropriate to consider revision?
Bryn910 replied to Kaze's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am getting a revision from sleeve to bypass next month. I had my sleeve for 7 years before considering a revision. I wish I had thought of it sooner. I developed severe GERD and I only lost about 30 pounds in the first 6 months of being sleeved. And I believe that’s because of the liquid diets and me being afraid to eat anything. I also felt no restriction and I tried every diet on the face of the planet. To get this process started, I suggest you find a surgeon that takes Medicaid patients and call a Medicaid health representative to discuss this process. It may also help to speak with a therapist about your dealing with food. Good luck to you -
Anyone getting bypassed in May?
Bryn910 replied to HelloMe27's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am scheduled for a revision from VSG On May 10th. -
I originally wanted the RNY due to the malabsorption and stronger restriction and I had over 130 lbs. to lose. I had my sleeve surgery in 2011 and my doctor then pushed me to have The sleeve and I did. I had GERD before the sleeve and it got worse after the sleeve. I also was unsuccessful with the sleeve. Lo and behold, here I am 7 years later getting a revision to RNY lol. I have absolutely no restriction with the sleeve now

Favorite protein shake?!
Bryn910 replied to caitlynbailey1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried the Isopure zero carb protein drink? It is pure whey protein but has the consistency/look of juice. I feel like the aftertaste of these drinks are strong but I have learned to add a crystal light packet to it to tone it down. premier protein also makes a juice like protein drink but has less protein than the isopure or shake so you have to either add unflavored protein or just drink more of it -
Did you tell the world about your WLS?
Bryn910 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
And by “ the world” I mean everyone whom asked you about your weight loss, co-workers, friends, etc. I was 90% on board with telling people about my WLS. But now my anxiety is through the roof with opening up about it. When I had my VSG, I told people I was having a female related surgery (I have had them in the past) and then told people that I was following a doctor supervised diet. Because I was visibly eating less & losing weight. But now I am having a revision (regain/GERD) to RNY & I don’t know what to tell people. The only people who know about my revision are my husband, mother & sister. I just feel like I dont want the embarrassment of regain or disappointment from others for having surgery. But people will clearly see my body & eating habits change. Part of me wants to just say nothing but then again I don’t want to hear people talk behind my back or whisper their assumptions about me. Also, part of me feels incredibly guilty about lying! I didn’t feel guilty about lying about the VSG because I was just scared. I have already been around friends/co-works where weight loss surgery topics pop up and I see their dislike for it (even from my obese friends). Deep down I want to shout to the world that I am having it and feel good about it but another part of me feels so ashamed. I know this topic must have been brought up a lot but I need input/opinions. Thank you in advance to all. -

Did you tell the world about your WLS?
Bryn910 replied to Bryn910's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been doing some research/reading on this topic (here and on other forums/sites) & I have found that a lot of bariatric patients find it easier to tell outside people (friends, coworkers, strangers) rather than family. I dislike it so much that family can be the one to tear you down. 😞 -

Great news! You’re off those meds so quickly, that’s amazing. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing -
Congrats! Well wishes to you for a swift recovery

You can pretty much do any exercise you are comfortable with. Strengthening your core is always good before any surgery, considering you may be walking like the hunchback for a few days afterwards (well I was anyhow lol). Just do what feels comfortable

I did not experience dry skin after my surgery but I have recently experience dry skin after a bad sunburn and I purchased pure Shea butter from amazon. I put it on once a day and I stay smooth until night. and if you purchase it, get the one in the tub, not the bar. Tub is softer in texture. It takes a bit of pressure to put on and run into your skin but it is worth it

i agree with cutting out carbs. Just lean protein and fresh veggies. And increase water intake if you can. Switching up exercise routines help as well.
