  1. At my first we talked about what I ate and how I ate and my NUT gave me recommendations on how to change my bad eating habits & make better choices. i will admit though, my NUT never set a calorie goal for me and never said I had to lose a certain amount of weight although I should always be losing some if I make better choices. one thing that helped was using a food journal of some sort; whether it be hand written or an app like MyFitnessPal. It’s useful to start now even with the regular food you eat so you don’t have to sit and remember what you ate..you both can go through it & the NUT can then advise you where to make adjustments. I work with many nutritionists/dietitians and i have seen many in during my weight loss and they are huge advocates for bariatric surgery. So most are on your side. Good luck & keep us updated. Starting this process is very exciting

    One Down Six to Go

I am on my 5th day and It is just hitting me. Not hungry, but I just need to chew so I have succumbed to eating ice and my popsicles lol 9 more days to go

    Recovery question

I would just explain this to the nurse/doctor that is seeing you. its normal to feel gassy and not expel it. The “puking” feeling could be because you are nauseous; maybe ask for anti-nausea meds

What to bring to the operation?

FYI, if your doctor doesn’t allow biotene or any other mout rinse etc, ask your nurse for a glycerin swabstick. every hospital has them and they can give them to you for dry mouth. It’s a small tipped sponge that is specifically for those whom have restricted oral intake and whomever has dry mouth. Some are flavored and some are plain but they feel so refreshing!! most wont just give them to you so ask for them!!

What to bring to the operation?

Cpap machine if you use one. Your own toothbrush/toothpaste cause hospital ones are not pleasant. A portable phone charger or small extension cord because sometimes the outlets will be taken up by your IV POLE and/or bed. I am also bringing self cleansing body wipes because after the heart monitors stickers, Betadine and other things on your body, you may feel a little sticky/gross. I am also bringing face wipes.
  6. Exactly. Younger people generally don’t get that type of assistance unless necessary. Anything can happen, if complications arise, he may need rehab and/or 24 hour nursing care etc. maybe the OP can discuss options with her hubby’s surgeon and check with insurance to see if home health nursing/rehab is covered
  7. I am sorry to hear about your husband. But bypass surgery isn’t easy. I believe your husbands doc meant it may not be as arduous for him as it is for others but your hunby is going to need assistance bathing, getting dressed etc. he won’t be able to lift things over a certain amount of weight and he will be in pain. if it were my husband, I would postpone the bariatric surgery. You will be fine after yours and driving should be ok as long as you aren’t on pain meds but your husband is going to need some extreme care and tending to. If your family can just take care of the kids, great, but one person alone is going to need to care for your husband.
  8. This is what I dreaded telling people about my surgery. I am in for answers as well because I am already getting these questions 4 days into my pre-op diet i just told one friend “why don’t you try this pre-op diet for 2 weeks and tell me how much you lose.” i hate being rude but honestly...

    Band or Sleeve?

Didn’t think any surgeons put bands in anymore.

    Surgery date

I didn’t meet my surgeon until I had finished the program and have only seen him once more at a pre-op. my program was run by nurse coordinators and my nutritionist’s. Any questions/concerns I had went through them. Not sure why you would need a follow up with the surgeon halfway through the program. Do you have a coordinator to assist you with everything?

    Cinco de mayo/easter food ideas!

Maybe a layered taco dip? You may not be able to eat it with anything but you can eat it alone

    Surgery date

Usually when you are done with the program. Your date is generally scheduled 4-6 weeks after they submit paperwork/approve you
  13. Maryland, close to D.C.
  14. I am May 10th for RNY. Day 4 of liquid diet and it’s ok so far. Just find that keeping myself busy works and watching lots of tv lol. lost 4 pounds since starting. Never knew I could pee so much lol
  15. I am so sorry this has happened to you. I cannot relate to this but I have read stories and seen some people’s vlogs about this exact same thing. And they have all over come their issues with a little bit of time. i read a story where one young woman had to have a g-tube for a few months because of her aversions to food and not keeping anything down...her body just needed time to get use to her new life. Literally all of our senses change. Maybe you can see a GI doctor and they can get together with your surgeon to help you more.
  16. You might want to be careful, this is considered an eating disorder. Try not to be afraid of swallowing food. You won’t know it will happen f you never try

    Waking up after sugery

I have had multiple abdominal surgeries and they have all felt the same....like an elephant sitting on my chest/abdomen. over a few hours it subsided and the pain pumps are glorious but you wish you could Press it more. I get tired and just wanted to sleep but hospital beds are not comfortable so your back hurts. Just make sure you get up and walk
  18. Mine was simple, filling out a questionnaire to see if you are depressed and/or have anxiety. Then my therapist really didn’t ask me any food related questions at all. Just about my family/support and what I did for a living. My program had a list for the therapist to run through and she pretty much just did that
  19. It was due to reflux and weight gain. I only lost about 30 lbs with the sleeve and I need to lose 100+ lbs. i wish I had done the bypass originally.
  20. Hi. i am getting my revision from sleeve to RNY in 12 days so I don’t really have much info to give. But congrats on this decision and keep updates

    Unsupportive mother

I hate to say this but this is your life, not your mothers. Many people change their ideas and feelings on weight loss when they see these people succeed. Try not to cry but use her dislike as motivation and show her that you got this. Stay strong
  22. I just keep busy & sleep a lot. I chug my water all day, get the recommended amount of protein i have to have and eat my jello/popsicles when I need to satisfy my craving for biting/chewing. I am on day 2 of mine but with my sleeve I had 2 week liquid diet and breezed right through it. I am lucky
