To tell or not to tell?
Bryn910 replied to Briswife15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I debated this forever! I decided to tell people. My immediate family was easy, they always support me. Not was friends/coworkers/distant family I was concerned about. I just told a few coworkers before my surgery because they’d see me doing the pre-op and would be suspicious. They took it well and were very supportive. After surgery, I will only tell people if they inquire about my weight loss/eating habits. So I am not one of those to shout it to the world but I came to my comfort level in not hiding it. To each their own though cause I hid my VSG surgery (I am VSG to RNY) and it was super hard. -
Good luck on your surgery, I am sure you will do well. Third time’s the charm for sure!

I was told to not even drink soda after surgery, ever. my NUT said it’s almost like a “gateway” drug for some..leading you to pick bad choices with other high calorie drinks/bad food. Even diet soda.

so confused about calories!
Bryn910 replied to Borocountry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon not nutritionist never mentioned how many calories to consume during pre-op diet. They set goals for protein and overall liquid. They also set guidelines such as which protein drinks to have and not to mix any with cow’s milk. So with those parameters one doesn’t consume many calories (as they use to) with the pre-op/post of diet. And the post op diet isn’t 0 calories...just very few. -
Ok so I settled for the Fitbit versa. Just can’t see myself using all the features of the Apple Watch and for some reason I didn’t like the big red button on the side lol

Beginning day 9 of my liquid diet...so far 9 lbs down. Was hoping to lose more but eh. Gonna try and drink more water these last 5 days of my pre-op diet.

I too prefer Stevia. It’s the only sweetener I can tolerate but I am pre-op for RNY. So I am not sure if that will change after surgery.

Yep. Day 8 of 14 days.

Looking for another surgeon!! Ugggh
Bryn910 replied to TaylorMade4One's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
All of our surgeons could very well perform a thoracic surgery being that most are general surgeons. So this is not uncommon for a surgeon to perform in the thoracic region. -
Looking for another surgeon!! Ugggh
Bryn910 replied to TaylorMade4One's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I could be an advocate for the doctor and say she isn’t performing heart surgery on you though. I would ask the doctor when did this incident happen in her career. And see how long she has been performing WLS & ask how many weight loss surgeries she has performed and what her stats are...then go from there. if she can’t answer these questions in a timely fashion or she hesitates at some point, continue finding another surgeon. All surgeries are a risk. I even asked my doc what his patient mortality rate was. You must trust your surgeon. If you leave her office feeling confused and indecisive, find another surgeon -
Congrats!

When is it appropriate to consider revision?
Bryn910 replied to Kaze's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes. One more week! Getting nervous now haha. I will update you and please stay in contact -
It’s not as bad as the days go on. Just limit yourself to temptations and keep drinking water when you feel that urge. Freezing protein shakes can sometimes be beneficial and you eat it with a spoon to satisfy that eating urge. Right now I can’t even handle broth, of any kind, so I eliminated it and just drink more water and having different flavors of sugar free popsicles work for me. Ita hard but you can do it. I have a physical job as well and you just have to remind yourself to drink, drink, drink.

Need help finding multivitamin that I can take after surgery
Bryn910 replied to Italia904's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I purchased the ProCare Heath multi-vitamin that my nutritionist had on a list for me to choose from. They’re chewable being I am not allowed to swallow pills until a later time these were the cheapest I came across so I stocked up -
I use premier protein & syntha 6 because it tastes fine with water. I don’t like muscle milk personally. I also enjoy the premier protein clear & syntrax nectar protein. They have juice based & shake style protein. Get their sample pack to see what you like

I scheduled a gyn. Appointment shortly after my surgery for this reason. But I do not want an IUD. I don’t like the idea of having that in my uterus and I have heard too many horror stories from friends/families. I hope to continue with the good ole pill form of bc.

Mine consisted of a NUT coming in to talk to me about the pre-op diet & things I would need for post op. Nurse came in to talk to me about the meds I had (they already ordered it and I picked them up). nurse coordinator came in and told me about what would happen day of therapy and recovery, what I needed to bring to hospital etc. and then the surgeon came in to reiterate the procedure. simpl stuff. The pre-op diet is hard. There will be temptation all day, everyday. You just have to know that there is an end to this and it’s to better yourself. When I had my VSG, broth was my life. Now that I am getting my RNY, I can’t stand broth and popsicles are my life lol

I had my final pre-op appt. with the team & surgeon today and the surgeon was asking me if I was approved the first go round or if I had to appeal etc. i told him no that I was just approved, no denial process. He asked because I am having a revision. There was no real approval process for me, I am just realizing this, with Kaiser. After the program, My surgeon said he would perform my revision and things progressed quickly in terms of scheduling my surgery, getting my prescriptions and all my pre-op work done. I did not have to wait days/weeks for an answer like I am reading most do. So did anyone else with Kaiser ( I am with mid-Atlantic) not have a true approval process? Did your surgeon just say, “yes you’ll get the surgery” and moved right on?

Day 6 of my liquid diet now and i popped regularly until today when I had a major bowel movement. The kind that makes you feel you just lost 5 pounds. If you meet your protein quota, you should have regular bowel movements -
