  1. Egg salad, chicken salad, seafood salad, tuna cheese, deli meat, peoperoni protein drinks, nuts if you’re allowed, protein bars yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus/bean dip, peanut butter Maybe make pre-made chicken/cheese wraps to store in fridge Fruit If you’re allowed also check with the hotel, some have microwaves that you can rent for about $10/day and they’ll place in your room. Or you could buy a mini microwave, use it, & return it once you’re done. Seems extreme but if you really need to, do it
  2. Yep, pre & post op. I have only tried the raspberry and stuck to it. I add crystal light lemonade to mine. I love it
  3. My doc also said 1/2000 but let’s be real...the number 1 risk of any surgery is death. And I don’t think a lot of people die on the table but from complications of the surgery. A lot of times it’s complications from the patient themselves (such as not following rules for exercise and food). It may help if your MIL asks the doctor how many surgeries he has performed and his survival rate.
  4. I regret getting the sleeve (2011). I developed severe GERD, lost restriction, only lost 30lbs and gained it all back. It was as if I didn’t even have the surgery i am now 13 days post op sleeve to bypas
  5. My doc puts us on a 3 week liquid diet. I am on day 12 of 21

    June 2018 RnY

I drink the raspberry flavor of this PP drink. I add crystal light to it for a little sweetness but it’s so good. I prefer it over any shake. And the premier protein ready to drink shakes are causing mento go to the bathroom too often.
  7. The questions I asked are; -what is the doctors goal weight for you -how long does he/she expect you to lose the majority of your weight -what the progression of diet is like after surgery -will my catheter be removed in my room on unit or in recovery -what will be used to lose the incisions? Staples, stictches, glue, combination etc. -what pain medication will I be receiving while in hospital -will I have a drain -will I have a leak test/barium swallow test (some do the test while you’re still under) -how long will I have to wait to have ice chips/fluids -how long does the procedure approximately take (this was more for my husband whom was waiting & nervous lol)
  8. Hi! I am 12 days post op my sleeve to bypass. I feel great now and the recovery was good. I was a lucky one whom experienced no gas pains. i can’t tell you about eating though because my doc has me on a 3 week liquid diet lost op. I had my revision due to weight gain, no restriction & GERD. It seems like these revisions are becoming more frequent
  9. I didn’t wear any leg compressions post op. In fact, I requested the nurse to take mine off in the hospital. I had to frequently get up and urinate and it was a hassle taking them off & putting them on. Besides I was constantly walking in the hospital. Couldn’t sleep
  10. I wish I had the bypass from the beginning but I am a revision from sleeve to bypass. i had no restriction with my sleeve about a year after my sleeve, developed extreme GERD & weight gain. what people seem to forget is that the sleeve was the first step in getting the bypass. Docs figured people were doing just fine in the interim if healing between the two surgeries so the sleeve became “the new wls “. Along with everyone else, I wanted the restriction and malabsorption for the optimal chance of weight loss. And the negative side effect of the possibility of dumping is helpful. I feel as if the sleeve leaves one open to eat an array of things and fall back into bad habits. Although that is one’s personal mindset/decision and not a fault of the tool.
  11. Isopure is so gross to me. But try a liquid enhanced to mask the horrible after taste.
  12. I am already starting to prepare for this issue lol. I have a shop near me that buys your clothes and resale’s them. I already have a trash bag of clothes I am taking Wednesday to get credit for the store so when I need smaller clothes, I can go to the store and buy them. I also plan on buying only from clearance and other thrift shops

    Saying Hello!

Welcome! I am not sure where they will base your height from. But that’s something the surgeon will talk to you about. i think it’s great you’re thinking about your health & the future. You may receive a lot of encouragement and a lot of discouragement from family/friends/community but do not let that discourage you. There is a great community here and I hope you learn a lot. Please keep us updated on your journey

    Back Pain

It’s most likely due to your back compensating for your abdominals. It’s always happened to me during all 5 of my abdominal surgeries. It will go away over time but exercising and maybe a hot pack will help alleviate the pain

    Clock Is Ticking

Just be careful with the clinical rotation. I am not sure if the stages of nursing rotations but with my therapy rotations the first one was just observing; but I am going back to work after 3 weeks and the doctor urged I be put on light duty, only ambulatory patients if possible. I will also have a technician assisting me, so just let your C.I. Know that you just had major surgery if they ask you to do anything too strenuous. But then again, you’re young and may feel like the hulk in 4 weeks lol

    Clock Is Ticking

It’s totally normal to freak out now. I am 10 days post op of my bypass. Yes there will be pain but it’s pain you can handle. And the meds should work just fine. I must admit, you have age on your side. You’re educated in health, you know this. You may heal faster than most. Dont cancel your surgery, you got this. And you know how to care for yourself, you’re in nursing school. I too am a health professional and trust me, it helps to know about health and healing; you’ll be more aware of your healing process and will be equipped to prevent such things as infection. The only pain I have today is from 1 incision site & that site is the biggest from where the surgeon did most of his work from; its expected. 6 days post op I was going out to stores and driving. I stopped my pain meds at 3 days post op. I can’t relate to the drain because I didn’t have one but I am sure you will adapt and be fine. We all adapt. You got this! Hang in there

    Essentials

Honestly, there wasn’t one essiantial I needed that the hospital didn’t have. Besides my cell phone/charger. I picked a weekend bag of stuff and didn’t touch my bag once until It was discharge time and I got my clothes. But in all honesty, I could have worn the clothes i came in with. For home, I got a tray table, a small notebook to log my water/protein ( I am anal but you could use your phone). I also got more bandages for my incisions as some were oozy 3 days post surgery. And if your incisions become itchy/red, coconut oil. I already had some on hand. I also prefer 8 oz ware bottle versus the 16 because it doesn’t seem as intimidating drinking and it’s easier to keep track. Crystal light packets if you like them. I already had these but I used 2.5 wrist/ankle weights to do seated arm/leg exercises (got the ok from my surgeon). It was rainy where I live for a solid week after post op and I walked around my house as much as I could but it seemed like it wasn’t enough.
