    PAIN MANAGEMENT

I wasn’t on a morphine pump but I had morphing injected into my IV every 4 hours. After that I had liquid Tylenol with codeine. My pain level never went above 7/10 and it was fine

    Struggling!!!

I don’t think that your throat and stomach are showing signs of being hungry. These feelings/sensations are normal for almost everyone. After surgery my throat was dry/sore and a bit pulsating but I contribute that to the breathing tube; my stomach gurgled and made all sorts of loud noises the first few post op. My stomach still makes those noises but not as loud. These feelings will fade, just continue with your doctors orders and make sure you get your fluid in

    Notifying work

Depending on where you work, you only need to notify your boss of when you will be off and notify your HR if you are taking FMLA (which I suggest everyone do because it protects you if complications arise.) i was open with my boss and coworkers so it was fine. My work is also flexible and it was easy to get coverage for me. But you do not have to reveal you’re even having surgery unless you will have restrictions post op at work. Some people say they’re having hernia surgery which makes them feel more comfortable about the take off process and in case people ask questions.

    It's been a long road!

Seems like you are well prepared and oh so ready for this surgery! Good luck and I can’t wait to read your update
  7. It really depends on your surgeon/program. In my program, we started sublingual B12 & chewable multivitamins immediately after surgery. 3 weeks after surgery when we began soft foods, we could resume our full vitamin regimen

    Searching for my Surgeon!

I know you said you can’t afford bypass but the risks really aren’t different between the two surgeries. And I have had both sleeve and bypass Good luck to you

So Who do You Look Like?

I literally have never been told I look like anyone. I don’t think I look like anyone either

    Back to work today

I took off 3 weeks and was so ready to be back into my normal routine. I am a person whom just can’t stand being at home

What does your typical day look like?

After surgery I have never felt hungry. I get cravings for only the things I see, but no hunger. I think it’s just me missing the fact that I can’t have those foods any longer. But once it’s out of my view, it’s gone
  12. There are dissolvable biotin pills, I just ordered mine off of amazon

    Back pain after surgery?

I had back pain but it was all over back pain and it was due to having a weak core and muscle compensation. And I felt it immediately after surgery. i would call your doctor and inform him of your pain
  15. I did nothing to break it. I actually expected it cause it was my third week and there’s always the infamous three week stall. I just rode it out. i lost 22 lbs. from my highest in 3 weeks prior to my surgery date (includes 2 week liquid diet) I lost 19 lbs. from surgery day. I have not gone to gym yet, plan on starting tomorrow. I know the scale will jump a bit due to working out as well

    Decisions , decisions, decisions

I would talk to your psych doctor about the issue of your meds. (Are you planning to be on these meds long term, is there another med? Could this dose be less at some point down the road etc.) You could definitely lose 100 lbs. with either surgery. And I agree with the other poster about GERD. Many people are getting revisions due to GERD
  17. I too had surgery on 5/10. My stall was all of last week and I had my period which really got to my head. Stall finally broke yesterday and I am so happy

    pcos/meds/etc post op?

can i ask why you’re getting a revision? I felt no restriction with the sleeve, only lost about 20 pounds and then gained it back. I also developed GERD

What does your typical day look like?

I am 1 month out revision from sleeve to bypass. This is my day: -wake up around 6am, take my gallbladder, acid reducer, vitamin d, biotin, calcium, multi vitamin & b12 pills. I take them with water & drink about 6 ounces of water. -while I get ready for work, I begin drinking my protein drink so the pills can settle easy. I either drink an 11 ounce protein drink or a 16.9 ounce; I usually and one scoop of genepro to either one to add to my protein. I finish this on my way to work & a bit at work which leaves me at about 50g of protein that i drank and about 17-22 ounces of fluid drank (depending on which drink). I finish about 8:30 am -I immediately start drinking my water out of my hydroflask water bottle which is 20 ounces. I finish this about 11:30 am which leaves me at about 37-42 ounces of water drank. -I then wait my 20 minutes to eat and I eat around 12 noon. For lunch I have about 2 ounces of my soft foods (fish, eggs or soft cheese). Takes me about 30-35 minutes to eat this. The protein varies depending on what I eat so I will guesstimate about 5-8g protein for lunch. This leaves me with consuming about 58g of protein. I then wait 40 minutes to drink again. -so around 1:40pm I drink 16.9 ounces of water and finish it by the end of my workday at around 3:30. This leaves me at about 53-58 ounces of fluid/water. -At 3:30 I begin to drink a Premier protein clear mixed with a crystal light lemonade for the ride home and will finish about 5:30 at home. When I get home I finish the remainder of my meds/vitamins which are multivitamin, iron & calcium, anti acid & galladder. This leaves me at about 69-74 ounces of fluid & 78g of protein. I then begin my 20 minute wait if eating. -so around 6pm I eat 2 ounces of soft food again which is about 4-6g of protein so I will finish my protein for the day at about 84 g of protein. I will wait 40 minutes again to drink water at around 7-7:15pm. - I will continue to drink water all evening until bedtime which is 10-10:30pm. By then I will consume approximately 20 more ounces of fluid which leaves me at 94 ounces of fluid. i don’t really count calories but looking back on MyFitnessPal it’s about 430 calories for the day 94 ounces of fluid 84 grams of protein 430 calories

    pcos/meds/etc post op?

The pill is fine to take after the sleeve surgery because there is no malabsoprtion with the sleeve. Surgery does not and did not change it’s effectiveness when I had my sleeve 7 years ago. I resumed it and was just fine. But now that i am a revision of sleeve to bypass I may have to change my birth control from pill to something else I do not ingest because there is malabsorption with the bypass.

    pcos/meds/etc post op?

I too have PCOS and was worried about stopping my birth control for a six weeks due to surgery. i am 4 weeks post op and start my birth control tomorrow. I had my period during surgery and 3 weeks later I got it again which was right on time! I was surprised that I was regular. And I have been on birth control for 10 years. My birth control doesn’t affect my weight which is good. It never has. I hope it does not make me gain once I start it tomorrow. I did have a stall the week of my period though; the stall broke 2 days after my period ended
  22. They are just a flip lid. You can get them amazon, at REI. Can hold hot/cold drinks and keep them cold/warm for a long time.

Older Patient: will my skin sag?

I mean, everyone’s skin will sag at some point in life. We can’t hang on to our youthful elasticity for life. So yes, it may but eventually it will. I would rather be at a healthy weight with saggy skin with the option to have it removed versus fat and unhealthy with stretched out skin
