    Any April surgery buddies

Oh, Nikki31, I’m sorry you’re going through a tough time. I have to admit, as soon as I got home, I tried a new protein drink from Core Power. In one sip, it didn’t sit right. I thought maybe I’m not ready for shakes, but tried again, and the 2nd sip felt like I was gonna die. I can’t even explain the pain. Needless to say, I will never touch a Core Power anything. I got an Ensure in the hospital, and I tried that, and didn’t have a problem with gas or bloating. I’ve since tried Premier and Genepro, and have been fine. You might consider unflavored protein, and you can sprinkle that thing in anything. I even put it in my flavored water for added bonus. Genepro and Unjury have one, and both are available online or GNC. Wishing you well!

Hello everyone! Reporting back. I’m now 4 days p.o. (sleeved 4/19). Experience was far from the horror I drummed up. Frankly, once I woke up from the surgery, I had no recollection that they were done, and I was in recovery. Sure I was sore and groggy, but that was to be expected. By the time I was released to my room, I spent the next few hours dozing on and off. My first drink was easy going down, but uncomfortable because of gas. I walked and walked until it subsided. Pretty much the routine until I was discharged 2 days later. Now, it’s a learning experience on how big or small of a sip I can take to avoid the sudden onset of gas/heartburn. It’s really all not too bad once you get a handle of what works for you, and what you are able to tolerate.

    Who was your Mexico Surgeon?

I am 4 days p.o. I had my sleeve done by Dr. Jorge Reyes Amendola, and could not be any more pleased. I did go through one of the scheduling companies, which I can not recommend, but I highly recommend Dr. Reyes and his team. When you find out about a surgeon you’re considering, research them directly, and not the touring company. I validated Dr. Reyes’s credentials online, read reviews about his medical practice (I didn’t want an MD who ran only Bariatric practice like a puppy mill). I knew no matter where I went, I wanted it done by a gastroenterologist, as they specialize in laparoscopic surgeries, which is most often the cause of complications from Bariatric Surgeries. Dr. Reyes does no more than 3 surgeries per day. On my day, I was the only one. I had full attention pre and post surgery, and recovery. I didn’t wait more than a minute if I needed anything, and I didn’t have to, because they were always checking in on me. I have to admit that the place wasn’t state of the art, but more than well equipped, and everyone spoke English. Lastly, I have direct contact with Dr. Reyes. I have his clinic phone number, cell phone for emergencies, and email. You can’t get that kind of follow-through in the US. Rule of thumb, be your own advocate.

Hello everyone. So excited to hear all your journey. Can’t wait to update with mine. After a little snafu, I am scheduled for the sleeve on 4/19. That’s tomorrow. TO.MOR.ROW! Nervous and anxious. I’m 45 from Los Angeles, and one of those lower BMI, but still obese with multiple comorbidities. Fortunately/Unfortunately, after my preop liquid diet, I loss just enough to be no longer qualified. Instead, I’m having mine in Mexico, as I’m stalled, still have comorbidities, and in no way able to sustain that diet on my own. Wishing everyone the best and speedy recovery!

    pre op diet

Hi all! I’m on day 5 of 14. So far, so good. I’m not necessarily hungry, but I have the urge to chew. So far, having Jell-O or sucking on sugar free hard candy helps. Down 6lbs, too. Keep on chugging (literally)!

    Planning ahead

Make sure you get something with protein. I’d supplement your Jell-O with unflavored protein powder. I’d do the same with your apple juice. You’ll have to water it down, as it is high is in carbs. Most fruit juices are. You should consult with a nutritionist. I have mine on speed dial, and ask her if it’s ok to have when I need a substitute. I’m on day 5 of my preop, surgery date 4/14.
  10. Call an urgent care clinic in your area. Ask them what they charge for self-pay. Blood work is fairly reasonable.
  11. I’m in Southern CA. My Sleeve is going to be $9500. Pre-op is not included, but I was able to use my insurance for that.

Protein Water at Costco! Pics included

Makes sense. I’ve actually started buying unflavored protein powder and putting them on stuff I actually enjoy, or to add a little “umphh” to another protein drink.

    Out-of-pocket? Ohio

I’m scheduled for the sleeve on 4/14. I’m self-pay, and my procedure is $9500. I had another consult with another surgeon, and they offered me $13k. The 2 others I say was asking for 18k and 20k as a cash patient. I’m in Los Angeles. All of them accept CarePay and personal loans. I’m paying half in cash, the other on CarePay.

    April sleevers!

I’m right at the cusp with a BMI of 35.5 with multiple comorbidities. I’m on day 2 of my 2 week preop. Today, I had a slight setback since it’s Easter. I did opt for an egg white scrambled at brunch, instead. It’s not on the menu, but I chewed it as best as I could to almost a shake consistency. Treated myself to one of my chocolate shakes while everyone else was cramming down chocolates. I’m back on track, though.
  15. Any one else have surgery the week of the 9th? I’m scheduled for the sleeve on the 14th. I have to admit I haven’t stocked up for my liquids, and the nutritionist kindly reminded me earlier that tomorrow is kickoff! Any one mid-process, I’m curious on you keep going when you’re running on empty?
  16. Mine is exactly the same. I had doubts on whether I’ll be successful post-surgery, but I’m trying to keep positive. It’s just the liquids for 2 weeks without sleeve is gonna be rough.

Rate Of Weight Loss, Those Starting Under 200 Lb?

Mine is exactly like yours, and preop starts today. When are you scheduled?
  18. I just came from my pcp’s office. I am going out-of-network for my sleeve, but the nurse who took my vitals had it done at KP. She did say the whole process to procedure took her about 8 months.
